  1. I have been researching, searching and finding most Benchmarks for many years, something I very much enjoyed. But now, for some lame reason that has been taken away. Searching & finding benchmarks is a part of history, each one has its own special story to tell. Geocaching is searching for junk and replacing it with other junk…! I will be deleting my geocaching account after this.
  2. I've seen that once before - the rusty spikes were driven through some fairly well rotted wood and no disc was found. Thanks for your quick reply! I'm still trying to research this a little deeper. If you find anything else on this please forward. I'm going to head back out and check the area again. How long were the spikes that you had found?
  3. I recently searched for a benchmark/triangulation disk that was set in 1901. I found the location but no disk, although I did find 2 long rusty spikes about the same size and diameter of a pencil. My question, is it possible they used nails/spikes to anchor some of these disk's back then or have they always cemented them into rock? On the survey control sheet, it says the disk was set in foot of signal tree. Any info on this would be appreciated.
