  1. If I want to put anything on my Palm m515......I have to do it through my desktop using XP. I just save the GSAK file to a thumb drive (from my laptop with Vista), then transfer it to my desktop. Once there I upload it to GSAK, then download the Palm file to my PDA. A round-about way......but it works. I don't know if MS will eventually get Vista to work with the PDA file..........or if a whole new set of PDA's will have to be manufactured.
  2. I have a Palm m515 and it will not work with Vista, which is on my laptop. The Palm works greatt on my desktop which has XP. My Palm came with the USB connection. When I was using my Etrex Legend I bought one of those USB to serial connectors and it worked just fine.
  3. This is not geocaching based.....well, maybe it is since I did some geocaching during the week.......but its definitely tick related. I posted this on another board (gun related), so here is a copy; I got one on my gonads last year!!! I was at a week long NRA LEO Tactical Shooting Instructor Course down in York, PA. On about Thursday, after a long hot day I was about to get in the shower when I noticed a speck on my next (gonads story comes later) and wadda ya know.....a tick!! When I was in the USMC back in the late 70's early 80's we used to get ticks frequently whenever we went to the field, so it was no biggie. Slow and steady and I got it out. Gave myself a good once over (or so I thought) and I appeared to be tick free. Friday was the last day and after a long drive home I'm about ready to get in the shower. I had called my wife on Thursday to tell her about the tick and she said I better check myself again. So........I stand in front of the mirror, looking things over.......decide to check under the boys...........dadgum!!!! A tick!!!! Yelled for the wife who said don't move. Where did she think I was going to go, naked as a jaybird with a tick on my gonads??? She grabbed a set of tweezers and after some gentle.........GENTLE manipulating.........I was tick free. Yes, I hate ticks too!!!
  4. Yes, it will work. I have a 60CSX and run MapSource with Topo and CN on my desktop which has Windows XP. I also run everything on my laptop which has Windows Vista and everything runs great.
  5. Think about a cache the size of your pinky finger nail.
  6. I'm still getting over a dose of poison ivy I got doing a cache here. Just post that there is poison ivy in the area and then those of us that have reactions can choose out own destiny.
  7. Icon is fine. For some reason nroute is not recognizing anything from MapSource on my laptop.
  8. Yup, no go. Error message still pops up. I can run it from the instal, but can't run it from the icon.
  9. Maybe thats the problem. Everything else works ok, GPSr, MapSource with Topo & CN, etc. Just not nroute, at least not from the icon!! If I want to run the whole install process everytime it looks like it will work. Oh well.
  10. Yes. If I click on the icon and go through the whole install process, nroute works. close the program and click on the icon in the start menu, the error message pops up. Frustrating to say the least. Might be a Vista problem. I downloaded nroute to my desktop which is running Windows XP and it runs fine. Click on the icon and no problems. Try to do the same on my laptop which is running Windows Vista, and I get the problem. I think I'm just going to uninstall everything, then re-install everything to make sure everything is where its supposed to be. I should have to, but I can't figure out any other way to try and get htis to work.
  11. Yes. If I click on the icon and go through the whole install process, nroute works. close the program and click on the icon in the start menu, the error message pops up. Frustrating to say the least.
  12. It requires Garmin maps to be installed. CitySelect, CityNavigator, MetroGuide or Topo. nRoute is incomplete until the maps are installed. I already have MapSource Topo and City Navigator on my laptop. Do they need to be re-installed??
  13. Downloaded nroute this afternoon. After running the install process, it will run fine. However if I close nroute and try to run it I get an error message statign nroute cannot find any installed mapsource map products. Install one or more mapsource map products and start nroute again. If I go back and go through the install procees, it works. Clicking on the icon causes the error message. What gives?
  14. Battery life: Lemme put it this way, I've accidentally left it on overnight and come back to it 8+ hours later and it's still on, after a day's caching. Things I don't like: The fact that I paid more for an inferior product to the Cx. Both the compass and barometric altimeter are in constant need of recalibration. The compass I have almost never used, and the barometric altimeter cannot be turned off. Also, since the 76 is now cheaper, floats, and comes with a bigger microSD card, I'd probably go for that one instead if I were buying now. I'd reccomend the 76Cx over the 60CSx. Been using my 60CSx for over a year and have no complaints at all. The only time anything needs to be caibrated is when the batteries are replaced. No biggie, takes less than a few minutes to do this. I don't know why anyone would have a problem with it.
  15. Depends. Most times its on my waist. Sometimes, if I'm doing things around town it might be in an ankle holster (never when out in the bush though), and other times in a fanny pack.
  16. Vista doesn't play well with Palm, I have the m515 model. Luckily my desktop has XP so I can do all the things I need to on there. I'd like to do everything on my laptop, GPS, GSAK and Palm......but I'll survive.
  17. Okay, who else besides me has got the first dose of poison ivy for the year? My wife and I were doing a cache here in NEPA and I must have come into contact with the little bugger somewhere. I've got a nice rash on the inside of my elbow. Its not itching anymore, but its in the oozzing/weeping stage!! Poison ivy and I do NOT get along very well!
  18. For some reason I have not been getting my PQ's on the day I select (Friday). Yes the day is checked but I have not been getting them for the past few weeks. If I select Saturday, I get them.
  19. Um, not to be a wise acker or anything, but have you read the manual? Also, knowing which GPSr you bought would help if someone is going to answer your question here. Maybe the dog is the observant one LOL........did I fail to mention that she is a seeing/reading eye dog!

  21. Used the link to update MapSource on my desktop Windows XP computer last night without any problems. For some reason when I had tried to update it using the "check for updates" in MapSource it would stall. All good now.
  22. I'll have to try running it at home. I know when I tried to update my desk top I'd get a window to open, then everything would stall. I closed the window and went to Garmin's web site and saw that the following about 6.12.3; Notes: WARNING: This software will not work unless you already own a MapSource product. This version of MapSource no longer supports Windows 98, Windows Me, and Windows NT. Works with Windows Vista. Duh....after posting I see that XP is not listed as not being supported. I'll have to try the link above, maybe that was my problem.
  23. What OS are you running on your computer? The newer updates no longer work with Windows XP. I have Windows XP on my desk top and could not update MapSource. However, I have Windows Vista on my lap top and it updated just fine.
  24. On my desk top we are running Windows XP Home Media and never had a problem with MapSource or Palm. On my new laptop I have Vista and MapSource is running just fine, however there are issues with the Palm as Vista does not recognize the files used in Palm.
