  1. I don't think the FTF cacher would get ticked. If they did and chose not to go and find it, so be it... The person who found our cache with coordinates to the FTF cache containing the cap didn't seem to mind at all. Of course, the FTF cache was in the same park, and only about .3 miles away. If the FTF cache had been placed in another park 10 miles away it likely would have been a different story.
  2. Our latest cache contained the following first to find prize: An envelope with a one ounce silver bar, a $2.00 bill, a $10.00 bill, and an unregistered set of travel bug tags. That was an unusually generous prize but the cache was a special one for us. The normal FTF prize in our caches is anywhere from $5.00-$20.00. We also hid a cache where the FTF prize was coordinates to a bonus cache that contained a Geocaching.com hat. I know, I know, it is all about the hunt and not the prizes, but we like to reward someone who is willing to make the effort to be FTF. (In other words, insanity loves company!)
  3. "Actually, that pic was taken mere minutes before her tumble. I have "after" pics, but know better then to post them." You are indeed a good guy.
  4. Hey- Was that pic before or after the fall? BTW- Checked on Micro Down by the River and all is well--
  5. My wife likes to Geocache, although she is not nearly as obsessed with it as I am. As long Geocaching doesn't get in the way of things we HAVE to do, I pretty much Geocache anytime I please. This includes late nights and early mornings. Her feeling is that I am out doing something healthy and fun, and she'd rather have me out in the woods searching for trinkets than be out at the bar, or out causing trouble. I guess I am lucky that she will join me on most of my cache hunts, (yes, we actually enjoy being out together ) but still "lets" me go on my own. I'd say just try to keep stressing the postive aspects and hope for the best. Good luck!
  6. Awesome!! Glad to see the forums back. Thanks to the folks who worked so hard getting them back up and running.
  7. Went out yesterday and got sat. lock, then switched the daylight savings time option back to auto, and it was correct. Thanks!
  8. Is anyone having trouble with the Gecko (201 ) updating daylight savings time? I had mine set to "auto", which apparently uses a program to automatically update the time. It did not change the time to one hour earlier. The only way to have the unit display the correct time is to set the daylight savings time function to "no". Is there anyway to have it set on "auto" and have the time update? Thanks-
  9. Navdog said: "The only competition about being a FTF is in the eyes of the person who thinks this is important." Amen to that!

  11. Hi Pater47- Thanks for the tip-- (or should I say, "Uh, thank you, thank you very much!") Will try using the advanced search. Al.
  12. Is anyone else getting this message when using the states "Pull down" function from the main page? If I put in a zipcode it brings the nearby caches up, but when I try and just search by state this comes up: Server Error in '/' Application. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Object reference not set to an instance of an object. 13. Doh! I'm sure I am guilty of submitting more than once. (the thinking was if I got the "can't find server" message it didn't go through, so I tried again.) Sorry about the duplicate submissions. Everything does seem to be working fine now, I see the caches I submitted on our "my cache" page.
  14. Hi Planet- Thanks- Glad to know it isn't just me. I'm sure it will be fixed soon. Al.
  15. Is there something wrong with the Geocaching website/server? Been trying to submit a new cache all morning, and I keep getting a "cannot find server" message. I've also had trouble logging on and posting notes on existing cache pages. Posted a note on a cache and got the same "cannot find server message", but when I look on the cache page in question, the note posted. Anyone else having similar problems?
  16. Very funny mooremonkeys! Roger Dean would be proud!
  17. "Here lies the body of MaryLee, died at the age of a'hundred and three, for fifteen years she kept her virginity, not a bad record for this vicinity." JAWS
  18. Q - "Into the Mud, Scum Queen"! A - The man with two brains. How did the Dr. Spell his name?
  19. Q -"We can't stop here, this is bat country!" A- Fear and loathing in Las Vegas. Great movie-- How about this one? "Charlie Don't SURF!"
  20. We have used Green Ban, Skin so Soft, (we call it Skin so tasty, this has go to be the WORST repellant, in our opinion, never works for us) and countless others, even eating garlic the night before hiking with little or no success. The only product that seems to work for us, at least some of the time, is deet. We use it with no fear, but avoid getting it on our plastic items. We have two kinds of deet spray. One is Ben's 100% deet, in the orange bottle, and the other is a 29% deet spray, (Repel, I think)in a little green and white spray can. We'll start off with the 29% spray, then switch to the 100% if need be. I think if the little vampires are hungry enough, they'll get you no matter what you put on to repel them.
  21. I can't speak for the other cachers in the article, but the Times reporter did accompany us on our cache hunt. Kind of wish they had mentioned the Cache in Trash out aspect, (we emphasised this to the reporter on many occasions) but I think overall the article was good. As far as StayFloopy's count being off, well, he is likely to hit 3000 by next month anyway.
  22. Kind of lame, IMO- What is fun about "finding" it if you were right there when it was placed? Other cachers will have to actually search and maybe not find it. Seems a little unfair to them.
