  1. Thank you for all your suggestions. I think I will just have Marshall show them how to look up a cache, and then show them how to manually enter coordinates. I was planning on filling a container with swag so each classmate could have a trinket. Thanks again for all your great ideas!
  2. I received a GPSr for Christmas and geocaching has become a new family hobby. My 4th grade son has to do a "how to" speech for 4-H and has chosen to tell his class about geocaching. His teacher loves the idea and has given us permission to hide a cache on the school grounds for the class to find for his presentation. My question is this: is there a place online where I can post the coordinates, that would be temporary, but allow them to go through the whole process of downloading into the gps and following it to the ultimate goal; the cache? I would need it to be clearly marked that this is for a school project and for his class only. Any suggestions?
  3. My husband got me a GPS for Christmas because I have wanted to geocache when I take my sons camping in the warmer months. He works weekends and doesn't go along, so he really had no interest in the hobby. When the DeLorme came in and we got online here, we found that there are 201 caches within 20 miles of our rural home. Well, we were off and running. We had a full day with decent weather the day after Christmas and the whole family went out. What a blast we had! Our 2 sons (7 & 10) were finding caches, I was finding caches and my dear husband was finding caches. We cannot wait for the weather to clear and to go out again!
  4. Thank you for your warm welcome! I look forward to this new hobby becoming an obsession! hehehe
  5. I too received a GPS unit for Christmas, and our family went out yesterday for the first time as well. We managed 5 out of 7, came home and logged them and checked encrypted codes. Went to one of the missed ones after church and found it right away with the additional information. We were so surprised at how many caches are within 20 miles of us (201 in an urban area!). This is a new family favorite hobby!
