  1. Ah, I know I got my original back because of the pda screen protector on it, and the piece of reflective tape on the battery hatch.
  2. Major kudos to Garmin for the excellent customer service on the repair to my busted Map60C! Last week the swivel anchor broke out of the back of the case. So the next day I called Garmin & got an RMA# and shipped it out. Well, in LESS THAN A WEEK, I have my repaired Map60C back in hand. That turnaround includes MY shipping time to them! And they didn't just throw away my old GPS--they actually took the time to replace the broken back of the case and send my unit back with all its programming intact! Thank you Garmin! Vic303
  3. Your Zire is more basic than mine but should have a Memos feature like the 31. Just copy/paste what data you want off of a cache listing into a memo and save it. Yes, it is a .303 case head. Good of you to id it correctly! One of the guys in the avatar thread helped me with it. I also got it as a stamp from Sissy & CR's store before they stopped making custom stamps.
  4. Used Kingston CF card 256MB. Works perfectly. The camera it was used in died, and my new camera takes a different type of memory. SOLD PENDING FUNDS shipped USPS 1st Class. Money order or Paypal balance transfer/debit card only. No credit cards on Paypal. PM me for Paypal address. First 'I'll take it' gets it. --Vic (Will ship internationally. Insurance will cost extra if you want it. Payment in US dollars only.)
  5. My husband & I use our Zire 31's for paperless cacheing. I just copy/paste the desired text into a Memo on the PDA and file it by zipcode so I know where I'm bound.
  6. My husband & I have had the Lyme vaccine. No ill effects either. It's been a couple years since we did the series of shots. Once the kids are old enough to receive it, I'll get them vaccinated too. I know it's not a perfect vaccine, but it's better than nothing, especially when combined with repellent, tick checks etc. It never gets cold enough down here in DFW to kill ticks.
  7. " I've got a nose for caching!" Or "I've got a nose for cache!"
  8. Other posters are right--what works for me may not work for you. So...what I will do is suggest makers whose s=footwear I have loved. Vasque (sundowner) Asolo (Fusion 90's?) Lowa (some sneakerlike shoe) Salomon (some trailrunner sneaker thing) The Vasques were true hiking boots. The Asolos are cordura/nubuck blend light weight hikers with good support. The Lowas are wide & chunky and a bit stiff, but durable as anything! The Salomons I wore for over 2 yrs daily for everything before they died. Hope it helps.
  9. If you can legally do so, I suggest carrying at LEAST a can of Fox OC. I understand in certain parts of the Republic of Taxachusetts that OC is by permit only... If you can legally do so and are comfortable doing so, carry a firearm. Personally, I do both, legally.
  10. Hmm...various thoughts on carry while caching... A .22 in the hand beats a .45 in the safe at home...but I'd rather have a 1911 than a .22. TX does not have open carry, so there's no way to carry a handgun on your thigh legally. (Unless it's concealed in a pocket...) CHLers in TX have a lower crime rate than the general population (per DPS stats). --Vic303
  11. Sounds like someone was pig hunting in a ghillie suit & used some cover scent...
  12. We use Palm Zire 31's for paperless caching. Works great! Don't even have to use Cachemate or GeoLog or any other software. I just paste the cache page into Memos and go. YMMV.
  13. My husband & I use Zire 31's for paperless caching. Works great! Cellphone has a camera if we really want to take pics...
  14. Palm Zire 31 here, & I just copy/paste what text I want from the cache listing into the memos on the PDA. Works great for me. Then I sort the memos by zipcode area. --Vic303

  16. Rhodesian Ridgebacks are great dogs--ya gotta have them as 'indoor' dogs though. They're NOT an outside dog. We have 2, and also 3 kids under age 4! --Vic303
  17. J, first off, always carry Fox OC whenever you go out, caching or otherwise. Fox is the best OC in production, period. Second, you were lucky the guy didn't whack you with the branch. Do you have the option of self defense where you live? You probably do, unless you live in KS, WI, NE or two others I cannot recall at the moment. You might want to consider that option. Third, have you re-evaluated your actions once he began yelling at you? What I mean is, did you act like a victim? From your description of events, it sounds like you were fairly passive in reaction to his actions. I don't mean you should necessarily go toe-to-toe with him, OR that fleeing the area was not a good idea, but it is important to consider HOW you left. Think grizzley bear with her cubs, and you will get the idea I think. Make eye contact, don't cower, be LOUD if you need to. Carry a whistle if you like--make it a good Bobby-style one, or ocean rescue kind though. A stout wooden walking staff might make a nice addition to your caching gear. They make them in 'Scouts' sizes too, for your girls. Fourth, talk it all over with your girls. Explain to them there are times when they have to follow your instructions to the letter, no questions asked, and immediately. Make sure to review with them what they should do if they are ever in a situation like that, or in other types of harms way, alone or with friends. Fifth, carry your cellphone & be sure to use it to report incidents like this. He probably has a history of threatening folks. Good luck & stay safe. Vicky who caches with all 3 of our kids. Just remember, don't mess with a mama grizzly!
  18. We got our order of tubes, etc & one of the last stamps made! Looks great CR! Thanks! Vic303
  19. Congrats! Y'all must be about due now. Haven't read the whole thread to see if the lil' cacher has popped out early...Sleep now, while you still can!
  20. Carry a cell phone. Carry some Fox OC. Carry a pocket knife--you never know when it'll be useful. Carry a firearm if you can legally do so in your state. Keep your wits about you, and listen to your subconscious--it youget a 'bad feeling' about something, go away. A dog is nice if you have one, but may not be permitted in all cache areas...
  21. Faint scuff marks or scrapes actually. It's been around since 1928 in less than ideal storage conditions, so I expected a few dings on the original. But the avatar looks superb now! Thanks to you! --Vic303
  22. Wow!~ That was fast! thanks! There appear to be a couple spurious black marks in the inner circle near the V and the zero, Can those be zapped out? --Vic
  23. DJC, did you ever work out someone to help you set your TB out? Either my husband or I would be happy to assist as we live in the general area. --Vic303
