  1. I suggest the Isle of Man as the final Target. I'm sure Happy Humphrey would oblige.
  2. Congratulations from NI. Hope you get the FTF on 'All About The UK' Mike
  3. And for small angles sin(theta)=theta (in radians) So Halve the angle :- pi/360 Take the sine of it :- pi/360 Multiply by 10 miles :- pi/36 Multiply by 2 :- pi/18 =0.1745 miles So Foresters 'rule of thumb' approximates pi to be 3. Funny, my tv has just put on an anorak and walked out.
  4. Absolutely brilliant! I was afraid it had gone. Nice one Beer Monster.
  5. Well done, Phoenix, on making the run for us. Sorry you didn't strike gold. Can you describe the site a bit? Is there an obvious footpath meeting the road? Anyone else there? I will be in Birmingham next weekend but everything must surely be resolved before then.
  6. Sitting here in my armchair my read on it is - The treasure is at the junction of the track and the road. There are no contours invloved in it - just a wiggly line showing where the centre should be on the OS map. And the diamonds are fiducials - which appear on some text layout programs to assist in registering the positions of the letters. Go for it.
  7. I hope someone will. Living in Northern Ireland, I am out of the running and renounce any claim. Although it would have been nice to place it as a FTF prize for a four Provinces multi we are planning here.
  8. Some people reckon the centre as the point furthest from the sea, which gets nicely round the debate of Scottish Islands, Northern Ireland etc. If this is the case it is thought to be at - Have a look at Multimap Here. There is a familiar feature just east of the farm. Do we have a geocacher nearby? Edited to add And there is a cache here, The cache furthest from the sea . So a better reason for checking it out.
  9. Isn't there always some debate about the true geographical 'C'entre of the UK? Now, if a contour line running through this were to match the line drawn ...
  10. I think I can see daylight
  11. What WLW says is correct. But if you have that sorted I could easily keep an eye on it for you. I haven't placed a cache yet and this could be a step in the right direction. WLW's xmas present to me of an empty, labelled geocache box is a hint I can't ignore for too much longer.
  12. Although not unheard of, I can recommend the sight of a 'glory' or 'Brocken spectre'. It is best viewed from atop a mountain, usually in winter, just before sunset, with your shadow cast onto a nearby cloud. The resulting spectre has a halo radiating from its head. You can only see your own halo, not that of anyone with you. I will try to attach a pic I took last year from the top of Slieve Binnian. If it goes wrong (new poster) I will put it in the gallery instead.
  13. On a GPRS enabled phone with an O2 payg card the service is free at present. It even works with a card with no credit left. Nothing needs to be configured on the phone. The relevant info on this set up - Set up a new dial up connection called O2GPRS with the following properties dial *99***1# username payandgo password password The clever bit is to enable a proxy server for this new connection Under control panel / internet options / connections click on O2GPRS click on setup enable proxy 193.113.200.195 port 8080 The limitation is that it will not work on a site that requires cookies, as many sites do. I am sure more info can be found with a Google on some key words.
