  1. I had the same questions you have... And after reading every posts I could find, I finaly made my choice: Magellan Meridian Gold with Mapsend Direct Route ! So far, it works fine for me... I use it as an aid for going where I want to go and for Geocaching... Great unit ! Alain R.
  2. Salut Dany ! ---------------------------- Hi Dany ! Welcome to the club ! I'm from Beauport, near Quebec city. Wow ! 18 caches in less than 2 months !!! Personnaly, I only have 3 found, two of them are "locationless"... But believe me, I will find many more around here soon. And since I'll go on a trip next March, I have already printed the caches available in those regions... I don't have a cache of my own but I plan to place one soon. I've already find the place where it will be. So, keep in touch ! Alain R.
  3. Hi everyone ! A fellow Geocacher from South Africa was able to go to the needed coordinates. So, you don't have to rush anymore... But if someone would like to send me pictures from those coords in your country, well, don't hesitate ! The only problem is that I won't be able to post them as a "found cache". I will only be able to log it as a note... Thanks anyway ! If someone need help from eastern Canada (precisely the province of Quebec), just ask ! Alain R. Canada
  4. Thank you Manpy57 ! Last week, someone from South Africa has helped me to complete this cache. Alain R.
  5. AlainBob...Alain is my first name (french version of Alan), and Bob comes from Robert, wich is my surname. Alain Robert
  6. Hi Brick, My mistake !!! I tought that I had to find someone that can go to a point corresponding to my coords and his/hers... That's not the case: From GC3153: But since your username gives us a coord. that I think you can reach, that's the reason I'm asking you to try. I tought it would be interesting if we could have pictures from a point corresponding to both our usernames coords. If you can't go to that specific point, no problem... BTW, Warthog, you're still in ! Sorry if I had misunderstood the rules... Alain R.
  7. You are absolutly right... The GC3153 instructions says: But I tought it would be interesting to find someone who can go to a point corresponding to my coords AND his/her (obtained from his/her username)... That's why I wrote my request that way... and I think I found someone in South Africa. I'm waiting for a reply from him... But if anyone would like to go at 25° 24'626 (North, South, East or West) and take a picture or two, I wouldn't mind at all !!! Thx for your input ! Alain R.
  8. Thx Rabbitto ! I'll try your link, BTW, with your username, the coords would have been: S25° 24'626 (mine) and 72° 22.488 (east or west). On the east side, it is in the middle of the Indian ocean. On the west side, it is somewhere in Chili... very near to Pacific ocean. Alain R. Canada
  9. Thanks to both of you guys ! I don't mind if both of you can go there, but there is a little problem: you have to use your username to get the other coords. With your usernames, it gives us: Brick = 27° 42.500 Warthog = 92° 78.464 wich converts to 93° 18.464 So, since you are from South Africa, the only coordinates that can be used are : S25° 24'626 and E27° 42.500. Brick, you are the lucky winner ! Sorry Warthog... To participate, you would have to go to Guatemala, central USA or Manitoba in Canada (West); India, China, Mongolia or USSR (East)... It's the same for me: I live in Quebec, Canada, and the coords near my home are N46 53 and W71 11... I won't be able to help anyone who need a coord near here. Thx anyway ! Brick, I'm looking forward to receive news from you ... and maybe some pictures... Alain R. Canada
  10. Hi, I'm in search of someone near the point 25° 24'626 (North, South, East or West) to complete the cache "Where's In A Name ?" My username "AlainBob" converts to 25° 24'626. Since I'm from Canada, I tought it would be interesting to find someone from another country to complete this cache... All you have to do is to convert your username into coordinates (see how to do that here. Then, take a few pictures of your GPS and the surrounding at these coords and send them back to me... Thanks for your help ! Alain R. Canada
  11. Hi, I'm in search of someone near the point S25° 24'626 to complete the cache "Where's In A Name ?" My username "AlainBob" converts to S25° 24'626. Since I'm from Canada, I tought it would be interesting to find someone on the southern hemisphere to complete this cache... And South Africa looks good to me ! All you have to do is to convert your username into coordinates (see how to do that here. Then, take a few pictures of your GPS and the surrounding at these coords and send them back to me... Thanks for your help ! Alain R. Canada

  13. WOW ! A 1000 caches ? Oh well... I just have 999 to go !!! I'm new to this sport and I found my first cache last saturday... Congratulations !!! Alain R.
  14. Salut Plein Air ! Dans un de tes premiers messages, tu indiques " I don't find very often messages from Quebec here. Probably I am the only one." Alors voilà, tu n'es plus seul maintenant ! Question: est-ce que tu as déjà placé une cache quelque part ? Moi, pas encore mais j'ai bien l'intention de le faire bientôt. Alain R.
  15. I got a Magellan Meridian Gold, Mapsend Direct route, an auto suction mount for my car and a cigarette lighter adapter cable ! Woohoo ! Geocaching, here I come !!! Alain R.
  16. I received my Meridian Gold 2 days ago and I love it ! It is so easy to use... I have not tried any Garmin units so I can not compare... So far, it is Magellan Meridian all the way ! Alain R.
  17. Hi, I will shortly buy a Magellan Meridian Gold with a 64 Meg SD card and Mapsend Directroute (the Meridian Gold traveler kit). I'd like to know how much memory a typical map can use on the memory card. As an example, we will travel in Florida next spring and I would like to upload a map of the region in the GPS. We will be in the Fort Lauderdale region so I don't need all the Florida state map on the GPS. Can someone give me an example of the memory needed for a particular map ? Something like: - a 100 x 100 mi region = xxx Meg - a 1,000 x 1,000 mi region = ??? too large for memory card ??? On the other hand, if a typical region doesn't take too much memory on the card, is it possible to upload multiple regions on the card ? If so, how does it work on the GPS ? Thx in advance ! Alain R.
  18. Thx ChalrzO... I'll take a serious look at the pro. Now, if I go with the Pro, what about the Meridian Gold ? As I can see, it's just a few $ more... I feel like a guy who wants to buy a small car and finish up with a big SUV... Alain R.
  19. Hi everyone ! I'm new to the world of GPS and Geocaching... I've made some Internet research and now, I hesitate between the Garmin GPS 76 and the Magellan SporTrak Map... both for price and feature they have. What I intend to do is a bit of geocaching and track our route when we cruise around the Carribean or when we drive around Canada and USA. Any input would be very appreciated, espacially if someone have tried both of them ! Thx a lot !!! Alain R. Canada
