  1. I use a Garmin 60CSx which provides excellent reception under a heavy tree canopy. I would say that it is a better choice than the 76CSx, because it is more rugged and has the quad-helix anttena. The incident commander can use the Mapsource US Topo or National Parks 24K software to acquire a longitude/Latitude positon on the rescue party and make a determination from there by using the "Go To Position" feature of the software. When he types in the coordinates given to him, it will display exactly where the party said they were. I don't have any experience with the Rino series, so I can't give any input on them. I do know they show the other members that have Rino GPS'rs on the screen, but I don't know what the range would be to view them. Maybe someone who owns them could provide some input. If you have any more questions about my set-up, drop me an e-mail. cpmellofarms@sbcglobal.net
  2. Hi! I had the same problem. I got a card saying "missing UPC" for my venture CX. I KNOW I put it in there, i do lots of rebates. I will call them on Monday, but I don't know what sense it is for them to ask me what the UPC number is. Maybe I have to act like I still have it and read the UPC number to them. Does anyone have a copy of the UPC they can post so I can get the numbers? I bought mine from amazon and if I remember right, it had a upc on a sticker stuck over what looked like the original UPC. I had the same problem with the rebate. They said it was an invalid UPC code. I e-mailed Garmin that I sent a UPC code and that if it was the wrong one, what should I do next. They didn't reply right away so I e-mailed them again. They got back to me and said they validated my rebate and it was sent in the mail. I got it 4 days later. Try that. It should work.
  3. Don't leave your 1 month old "state of the art" 60CSx in your van while you are at work, not knowing there is a hungry mouse lurking around inside. It will chew all the rubber off the antenna and leave you very p@!!%# off! You will then have to send it back to garmin and listen to the tech support guy's laugh in the background about the incident. Your only consolation is when you catch the culprit in a live trap the next morning and drive over it with your car. Ahhhh...revenge is sooo sweet!!!!!
  4. Ahhhh.....number 12. I will keep an eye out for this one. Thanks. Here's another question for the "think tank" crew. Why does my Garmin 60CSx show sat. #47 from time to time. I don't see a #47 PRN on the list? Am I picking up an alien transmission?
  5. So when will it be operational? And does anyone know what the Garmin Sat. # is going to be when I look at my 60CSx screen?
  6. Yes, I can do PayPal, but I would like to wait until I get a response from 1stwarrior95. If he passes it up, you are next in line. Thanks.
  7. I moved my sale of the US TOPO cd's to the "Garage Sale" topics. Thanks.
  8. I am selling a new 3-disc set of the MapSource US Topo software which covers the West, East, Alaska and Hawaii along with: - Lanyard - Belt Clip and button - USB Data Cable All for a Garmin Map60CSX or any Garmin 60 series unit. $60 obo.
  9. I have a brand new US TOPO 3-disc set if anyone is interested. It covers the West, East, Alaska and Hawaii. Garmin was generous to me on the repair of my 60CSX last week. They sent me the software and I already had my own. I could let it go for $50? Just let me know.
  10. You will not be disappointed. I upgraded from a 60CS to a 60CSx 2 months ago and it was a huge sat. lock difference. More sats. and a stronger lock under tree cover means more accuracy. I can now get 5-6 locking sats. in my house. I could never get that with my old unit. Not even 1 locking sattelite. Plus having a 1 gig card gives me more mapping on my unit. I am very happy I upgraded!
  11. I had the same problem months ago, but I discovered my USB card reader for my digital camera was the culprit. I disconnected the card reader and my computer recognized my gps. Then I plugged the card reader back in and all is fine. You can try this if you have any other USB plug-ins.
  12. I owned a Vista C for 6 months before upgrading to a 60CS. At the time, I was very happy with the performance of the Vista C, but I wanted more storage capability for maps on long hikes. If you are not concerned with the amount of maps you can store on the unit, you will be happy with the Vista C. Both units locked on well with +/- 8-12 ft. accuracy, but the Vista C with patch ant. lost signals for me in wooded areas of Yosemite from time to time. It was not that big of a deal, since it would regain a signal once in the open areas on the trail. The Quad Helix on the 60 CS works at all angles and under tree canopy for me. Hope this helps in your decision.
  13. I ordered my eTrex from www.offroute.com and with standard shipping, I got it in 22 hours. Amazing! Their prices are rock bottom as well. Off Route is the way to go.
  14. I received the same e-mail from Target this morning. Looks like they are diligently cancelling everyone out. Oh well. It was worth a try.
  15. I just checked on Target and I couldn't find the Legend C on their web site anymore. Looks like they got wind of it at the upper level and pulled the ad. Hopefully my order is still in the works. No e-mail from them yet.
