Yeah, and it's also the families there for little league games. The time it happened while I was sitting in my car putting on my skates, they hit a car over on the other side of the lot and it was a car where the woman had left her purse sitting out on the seat. But I've also seen the broken glass over by where the path goes out of the lot, where I park (since I'm on skates). I take all my valuable stuff with me, and I've never heard of a car being stolen there, but it's a bummer people do that. I remember getting back to the trailhead after hiking with husband to Talapus and Ollalie and a car had been broken into at the trailhead. I felt so sorry for the people who would return from a long hike to find their car burgled. It was one of those sedans where the backseats folded down and you could get into the trunk. That style seemed to be an invitation to have your car prowled.

Sorry to hear that Java Duck! Makes my 3 DNF day seem not so bad... The parking lot in Woodinville I skate out of gets car prowled a lot- always broken glass and they've even hit while people are there for baseball games! There's been many a time I've come back at dusk and held my breath til I've seen my car and all its windows! It's the parking lot for Paradise Lost Book II. I hope they find it soon! Not a hazard you'd expect!

LOL! Blabber fingers? Never mind...

I have a Zire 31, which I think is just the same as a 21, but with 16MB memory. It also has an expansion slot, which I haven't needed to use, but might for listening to mp3s. Works great for caching! Don't have to carry around all those sheets of paper anymore. I use cachemate and it works like a charm. It even glows bright green when I'm on top of the cache. Ok, that last part might not be true . Do you have specific questions?

Yay! Glad you were able to get out. I am stuck inside today! No satellite reception in here!

Thanks to all those of you who *hide* the caches- No hides no finds!

I'm sorry I missed the hike! I was interested when I first heard about it because I had so much fun on the trip to find the 'bloated head' , but then it seemed like it was getting too much about whether you were allowed to see a coin or not and that just kind of out a damper on the fun aspect for me. I've only been playing this game for a month and a half, but from the people I've met (all of whom have been incredibly nice!) there seems to be many ways to play. I've looked for caches by myself, and with others. Sometimes when I'm with someone else I'm not the one who actually finds it. Sometimes I am. As far as I can glean, the most important thing is going to a specific place, and signing the log to show you were there. I love taking a minute and reading the names of those who've been there before me. I respect the fact that everyone has a right to play the game the way they want, as long as it doesn't hurt others' enjoyment. Everyone can say things they regret. I would be amazed to find someone who hadn't! And I'm sure Ill get a chance to see the cache someday- I am really thankful for everyone who puts so much effort into making a game that gives everyone so much fun! Happy caching!

1500! Way to go TIAG! There should be patches like in Girl Scouts []! We were behind you on the Juanita cache today! Mostly I do caches that you've all found *long* ago!

Ack- scary! I'm definitely not going caching alone in places like that! Sounds like you stayed calm and clearheaded! We did just get out of a park on Whidbey on Friday before it was locked- we just got back to the car as he came to tell us he was locking it. Whew! It's this northern latitude in winter I blame!

I have a friend that does letterboxing with her family. From her description it seems like one big difference is that the person who hides the letterbox *wants* you to find it! And I seem to recall that it's been around for at least 100 yrs...if I remember right. Sounded fun! And she said it was something the kids could really participate in hunting. About the numbers thing, while it is fun to go out and find lots of caches, and that means accumulating numbers in and of itself, that's not at all why I like micros. It's just the absurdity of it that is so fun. We went caching on Whidbey Island the day after Thanksgiving. There's a cache in the parking lot of a Walmart there. It was so funny to pull up in the parking lot, full of people shopping their brains out, and write our names down on a little piece of paper hidden there, and then leave. All totally unnoticed by the hordes of people there. That's why I love micros- they're right there (sometimes even out in the open!) where people are passing everyday and totally unaware. And some of them are very, very clever. Or funny! Again, I'm not saying a beautiful walk and an ammo can aren't fun, it's just that it's somehow more predictable...

Woohoo! Way to go! Congrats to everyone!

I am thankful for the fun of discovering a new hobby, all the friends I have made from caching and elsewhere, my husband, Thing 1 and Thing 2 and the rest of our family. I'm thankful to live in such a beautiful part of the country with so many green spaces and a new way to explore them! And while I don't think I'll get away with caching on the way down to my brother's place for Thanksgiving, I think we'll take a family outing on Friday and cache along the way! I'm super thankful we'll be travelling back to Houston for Christmas where we can cache where it's (hopefully!) warm for a while. All this tromping out in the rain gets me a bit waterlogged...

New related question- do people carpool to these things? I live on the eastside (of the lake, not the mountains ) and I'd like to go but would love to carpool!

Two weeks- ouch! Serious withdrawal! I sit back in awe of all those who get out so early! I'm about to take the girls to school, then I have a meeting til 11:30 or so, and THEN I can cache! Oh well, so I'll never be FTF, I guess I can live with that!

2200?!? My mind is boggled! Congrats times 2200!

Cache Ahead told me about this- sounds fun to me! I haven't cached there at all. Fun to meet people!

Congrats Hydnsek and Jester!

Here's a milestone of sorts- I just had my first cache approved . Happy caching! Congrats on 400 jcar, tode-999 and Weightman! Wow, very impressive!

Actually, I think micros are my favorite- something about the utter absurdity of having your name written down on a little piece of paper hidden away in a spot people walk by all the time, oblivious. Just makes me chuckle. Not to say I don't like the other kind as well- I love hiking and wandering in the outdoors. Just something poetic about hunting around for a very cleverly hidden micro. I like having a mixture of both. I've never done a virtual and I'm not sure what a locationless cache is - I've been wondering...

That is mind-boggling! Way to go!

Congrats on 200! I'm working my way there !

Very impressive! Congrats!

Hmm, this sounds really nice, but I haven't found a Moun10bike coin yet- can't mobilize my troops that fast! Sounds like there might be a chance if I'm caching along on some caches before that one? I did find my first geocoin this week! I have done alot of the Duvall area caches, but would love to do some of the longer ones with a group when I don't have to haul my 4 nd 6 yr olds in and out! Any chance a relative newbie could come along? Got a trekking pole and promise no one would have to carry me!

Oh, just saw this forum today! (I'm slow...) Thanks . I enjoyed meeting some of you at the bloated festering head and hope to do something like that again sometime! (The caching with friends part, not more bloated festering heads ) I am in awe of those of you in the multiple hundreds and thousands- this is a very time consuming hobby! But a very fun way to spend time- anything outdoors is all good to me.

That would be cool if our girls would hike that far, but their limit is a hike like around Tradition Lake. I'm not sure how far that is, but not more than 2 miles, anyway. The 6 yr old is 41 lbs and the 4 yr old about 35, so part of it is they're just not very sturdily built and tire easy. And it's not that we don't take them out- we do Tiger and Cougar and Mount Rainier and lots of beach walking, but we are more limited on elevation and distance than when we could carry them on our backs. And they are too big for that now. The last big hike we did with them on our backs was Spray Falls at Rainier a few years back. But they're getting bigger every year and we can do more and more now, so I'm sure it will be relatively soon enough when we can hit the trails again!
