  1. Hi All, I am planning a cruise that stops in St. John, NB in a couple of weeks and would like to try a little geocaching with my son while we are there. We have a TB that we would like to move along. Any caches that are fairly close to where the cruises dock, as we won't have a car? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks from NJ, USA
  2. Tennessee Jed, Thank you so much for the adoption. I can't wait to show it to my son when he gets home from school. Thanks for your generosity!
  3. If anyone has any more coins up for adoption, I'd love to adopt one. I'm fairly new to caching, and haven't found any coins yet (did find a pathtag yesterday), but would love to be able to show my son how the coins work (and maybe a little geography to boot). When I get some coins I will definitely pay it forward. Thanks for the consideration.
  4. I am new to geocaching in general, and to geocoins in particular. We found our first pathtag yesterday, thought it was a geocoin and my son got very excited. Still excited to have a pathtag, but guess will have to wait for our first official geocoin.
  5. I'm glad I did a quick search because I was just going to post the same question. I am totally new to geocaching (found my first 2 yesterday ) and was trying to load some more onto my PN-40. Got a whole bunch to load, but there were a few that, once the box opened, nothing else happened. I had to use the X button to close the box. Someone mentioned something about "handloading" caches (I think that's what they said); is that a way to get the info into the GPSr, and if so how do you do that? Thanks.
  6. Thanks to all who gave advice (along with some confusing info, at least for me ). I decided to go with the PN-40. Like the last poster, it seems that for the price, I can get going right out of the box, and be fairly up to date. Again, thanks for all the opinions. Hope everyone has a happy holiday season.
  7. HI All, I am totally new to this (actually would like to get my 8 year old son and husband into it also) and am looking for a good GPS to get going. I would lilke something for caching, but also that my son (a scout) will be able to use when he and hubby go hiking and camping (a few times a year). I have found what I think are 2 good deals, but I'm not sure which is best for me. I found the Delorme PN-40 with the TOPO 8 for $199 at Amazon; I like the idea of the paperless caching, but I'm not sure if it's "too much" GPS for a beginner. I also found a etrex Venture CX with a "northeast topo bundle" for $169. It seems like more people use Garmin, rather than Delorme, so I was wondering if that is the better deal. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
