  1. Maps in China are inaccurate (by design). Trust your GPS and you'll be fine.
  2. HK Cachers hang out here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/geocachinghongkong/ You will have better luck if you post your question there.
  3. Hi Simdel, What you want is the OpenCycleMaps - which are esentially OSM maps with the contours. I'm actually glad this has happened. It will give more prominence to OSM and hopefully we will see more people working with and contributing to OSM financially as well as with their time and tracks.
  4. The Hong Kong group of cachers are planning something for the 29th - you can join the facebook group for more details: http://www.facebook.com/groups/geocachinghongkong/ I havent heard of anything going on in Southern China.
  5. Either way, I still wouldn't care. Thats very clear from your posts but there are also many others who like to play a game by its rules. What this cacher is doing is clearly violating those rules.
  6. Look into openstreetmap. Many people around the world conribute to OSM and from OSM files you can generate local maps.
  7. I will be travelling to a location which has a lot of caches (400-500) but I will not have access to DATA signal. I own a 60Cx (can use Pocket Query) I also own an iPhone with the geocaching app. I would like to take along Descriptions, pictures, hints as well as previous logs along with me electronically. Pocket query for 60Cx only gets me a small amount of what I want. Saving favorites on the iPhone one by one for 400 caches would really be painful. Is there a better method? Are there any other apps out there that I can use for the iPhone which will allow me to donload a whole heap of caches so I can view them at my destination without DATA or Wifi connection? TonyB
  8. I've encountered a number of these backdoor virtuals. I dont particularly like them but so far they havent annoyed me enough to get them shutdown. Here is the latest one I ran into : http://coord.info/GC1ZEK5 Its a multi-virtual :-) I hope the virtuals come back soon and in a good form so people stop doing such things. TB
  9. Others have pointed out various caches. There are also plenty of TBs floating around "in memory".... Here is a recent one that I helped move along : http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=1757957 TB
  10. This problem is still ongoing. Provider == Google. Yesterday a cacher wisited a bunch of caches on my watchlist and picked up a number of travellers also on my watch list. I only received about 70% of the notifications that I should have. Nothing in spam folders. TonyB
  11. Provider = Gmail I too have seen some email disruption within the last 48 hours. I regularly dip coins (and I'm a watcher on all the coins). About 70% of notifications didnt make it to my inbox. Nothing in SPAM folders.
  12. We are a family of geocachers in Hong Kong. Time/date permitting, we would be happy to travel to Macau to pick up travellers. Being a family, weekdays are usually impossible, weekends are. Feel free to pass our name on to your friend. TB
  13. Here is the most useless one that I've come across so far: http://coord.info/GC12BFT "Take the MTR to Shaukeiwan Station. " MTR what the Subway/Metro is called in Hong Kong. The cache is over a mile away from the MTR station. TonyB
  14. Thank you very much for the pointer. Slight tangent : This coin is the second coin I have seen that has a picture on it. The other one was the California Geo Woodstock going for gold. Both of these coins are nice but the picture itself is not very clear. The pictures are grainy and slightly out of focus. Is this normal? Is this as good as it gets with geocoins that have pictures on them? Are there any other geocoins that have very clear pictures on them? TonyB
  15. I recently became a proud owner of a Kinzua Area Geocachers 2006 geocoin, but I dont know where to get the activation code for it. Can someone please help me with this. Also : a more generic question. Is there a website/list that shows which coins belong to which sites/sellers so I can do this myself (figure out where to activate) in the future. TonyB
  16. When there are no trackables left in a cache, the link for "View Past Trackables" does not work at all. When there is a trackable present, this link is working correctly. This is reproducable in FF3.6.3 as well as IE6.0.2900 TonyB
  17. This is perfect, exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much. TonyB
  18. I did (for the first one) and the CO was very helpful. He said : "you might want to do some counting. " I'm still lost :-( I was hoping there was some kind of general guidelines or description of common types of puzzles that I can match this one up with and get a start on it. TonyB
  19. Is there a requirement that the log must be made of paper? *evil grin* http://www.google.com/images?q=write+on+rice http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rice_writing TonyB
  20. We do this all the time as the kids love discovereing new coins and TBs. If a traveller lands near us, we will rush to grab it and drop one of the ones we have on hand. TonyB
  21. There are a number of puzzle caches that I've come across, where the content completely puzzles me. They look quite interesting but for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to even *start* to solve them. Here are 3 that come to mind: GC19B9B GC1TBCG (currently disabled) GCYN04 Are there any documents or FAQs to help with such type of caches? I'm not looking for the actual solution to the above specific caches (I'm happy to do the work), but some articles that describe in general terms various type of puzzle caches so I can start to recognize the different kinds and actually start in solving them. Alternatively, I would appreicate any pointers you can give for the above caches so I can start solving. Others are solving them before they leave home, I would like to do the same TonyB
  22. I'm surprised no one has yet to mention the Tough range of cameras from Olympus. There are many types for various degrees of toughness but esentially : Waterproof, drop proof, freezeproof, crushproof. Perfect for the geocacher with slippery fingers. Its relatively small too. We have 3 of them in our family, one for each child and they all take it along on our caching trips. TB
  23. Hello UK Cachers, We are a family of cachers from Hong Kong and we have booked a 3 week trip to the UK this year in August. We are planning on doing a lot of caching during our visit and could use some recomendations. We will stay 1 week in the Peak District, near Buxton. We will stay 1 week in Surrey, near Guildford We will stay 1 week in Brecon Beacon, near Abergavenny Our family would ideally like to go out for the day and walk between 10-15km and try not to climb much more than 400-500m. We would really enjoy circular walks where we could pick off 5-10 caches during our walks. Spooky and old structures and caves are a bonus. We would prefer to avoid any nano's along the way as the kids do enjoy trading swag. I'm hoping that there are some bookmark lists of memorable walks/caches for the regions I've mentioned above. Barring that, I'd be happy with general recommendations of favorite caches or circular walks in the 3 areas. Any pointers you may be able to provide would be appreciated. TonyB and Family
  24. If you build it, they will come We usually go out for the day, trying to make some kind of circular route where we can find 2-5 caches. It could be that your caches are a bit lonely out there. I would suggest planting a few more and make it worth while for people going out for day trips. TB
  25. Here is a link to a cache that was recently double-smilied ( a new word :-) ) http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...8e-17a886ca3d7a I think he deserves the 2 finds. TB
