  1. Thanks for all of your responses. Obviously I realize that I can ignore the cache - that's not really an issue with me as there are several 5/5 local caches that I can't retrieve and I don't have a problem with that. But it just kinda bugs me that signing the log on a so called "regular" cache isn't enough. It's not a big deal and I was just wondering what other people thought. And I guess I wanted to vent a little bit. That's all.
  2. I'm sure this has been discussed before, and I apologize for repeating the topic, but I can't find anything on it. I've been caching for about 4 years now, and it seems that more and more hiders are requiring a photo in addition to the signed log to get credit for the cache. I've got a couple of issues with this: #1 What if I don't have a camera? #2 What if I'm a single cacher and have no one with me to take my photo with the cache? #3 Most importantly, What if I'd like to remain completely anonymous in the sport and don't want my picture posted anywhere? I realize that for certain puzzle caches and for Virtual caches this requirement may be necessary... but for just a regular cache or a multi-cache, I think it's asking to much. Comments?
  3. Lets talk crazy. Lets talk about cachers who go after FTFs at 2:45am, 3:40am and then last night, 1:30am. That is what crazy is. And just for the record, it's not me. I need my beauty sleep!
  4. check out the hunting vests I got for my dogs... too cute, huh?
  5. How do you find out who your local reviewer is?

    Help

Oh man... I understand completely. Luckily, I found my first 5 caches like a breeze... I couldn't believe how easy it was. Riiiiiiight... I've been unable to find the last 5 I've tried. One of them was stolen, but still, it's a good thing this didn't happen to me before I found any, or I would have probably quite and had a brand new Garmin eTrex collecting dust. All I can say is just keep trying... I seem to find the micros with the least amount of difficulty!
  7. I almost stumbled on the website. I've been logging my $ on Wheresgeorge.com for 4 years, and recently, I've had a little more time at work so I was on the wheresgeorge site surfing around. I noticed something about geocaching bills and that they were being "disallowed" and immediately removed when they were logged onto the site. Now if that doesn't grab your attention immediately - I don't know what will! I switched over to the geocache website and I don't think I've been off of it since! Within a week, I had a new GPS and 5 finds. Thankfully, my first 4 were easy finds, because it got me hooked. The last 2 caches I've gone for, I didn't find, and if that would have happened right from the start, I think I would have been too discouraged to continue. Every spare minute I get I'm on the website looking at different places and seeing what's hidden there... for example, today I checked out Disney World - HOLY COW!!!! WHO KNEW??? as you can tell, I'm having a blast.

    Muggles

I just want to let you all know... I went after a cache at lunch today (DNF ) but I used the "GPS as a cell phone" trick and it was excellent. I'm sure it just made me feel better - but what a great idea. Thanks everyone for all the ideas!
  9. How long have you been trying to log on? When I joined, I would say that it took over 24 hours for the geocache site to recognize the S****** # that paypel had emailed to me. It was very frustrating, but I just kept trying.

    Muggles

I like the orange vest idea. I have 2 dogs that I take with me and as hunting season approaches, I think I should get a vest for myself AND my dogs!

    Muggles

Thanks Thot for that string of posts about responses to curious muggles. All of them are great. I looked around a little bit for some posts about it but couldn't find anything. I would have never thought of the clip board in a million years. I'm definitely going to get one. Also, I like using the GPS as a cell phone - EXCELLENT!

    Muggles

I have a question concerning how to deal with curious Muggles. My very first find was a micro in a park that is heavily used. I went very early, but still: a ton of muggles. To make matters worse, I had difficulty retrieving the cache. I tried desperately to be descrete, but alas, I had MANY strange looks. No one said anything, but I was concerned that someone would inspect the area after I had gone. How do most cachers handle a situation like this? What if I'm directly approached and asked what I'm doing? Is there a simple explanation I can use (high tech scavenger hunt?) or must I go into details? I guess mostly I need to play it by ear, but I'm so new to this (5 caches) my stress level about "getting caught" so to speak is pretty high, and kept me from attempting 3 different caches yesterday. thanks for any suggestions!
