  1. Looks like someone is getting worried about something they don't understand. Does the Geocaching app show your location to others? There are lots of other apps out there that track you on GPS. Why single out one in particular?
  2. I never change a log type, unless I accidentally posted it wrong (and I don't remember ever doing that). If I find a cache after DNFing it, I'll usually mention the previous DNF in my "Found" log ("found on the 2nd try" or something like that). If I look for a cache, and don't find it, I'll post DNF. If I can't get to GZ for some reason, I'll post a note. If I see the cache, or figure out where it is, but can't get to it, I'll post a note. If I find the first stages of a multi, but run out of time before I get to the final, I'll post a note. However, if I can't find a stage of a multi, it's a DNF. If I find what seems to be pieces of the cache, I'll either post a note or DNF, followed by a NM log. In my mind, a DNF is in no way saying the cache might not be there. It just says that I didn't find it, for whatever reason. I'll explain in my log if I think it may be missing, or if it's most likely still there, and I just didn't see it. A couple weeks ago, I headed for a cache, but turned around when it became obvious I'd have to wade through a watery ditch to get there. I posted a note. The next cache I looked for, I gave up on the search, then as I was driving away, I saw something just beyond where I had looked that seemed out of place. I logged a DNF, mentioned that I had noticed something as I was leaving, and planned to come back later and check it out again. I don't really have solid rules, but this is basically how I operate.
  3. First thing I thought of, on seeing the title, is Roman numerals.
  4. You may not be able to re-activate archived caches, but you should still go collect whatever's left of them so they don't become geo-litter. It may still be possible, too, to revive them, if it hasn't been too long. Like you said, contact the reviewer about it first, so you don't go to a lot of useless work.
  5. If I read the OP correctly, the donation thing would just be for when the newlywed couple finds the cache. That wouldn't have to be in the description. A nice cache with a title honoring the couple, and a description mentioning the occasion, would probably work. It would need to be a local hider, for maintenance reasons. What you suggested with not publishing it here would also be a workable plan. I have found a cache that was hidden in honor of someone's wedding. It was a nice cache, specially painted ammo can, on a hike/bike trail.
  6. Go to your Geocaching profile (www.geocaching.com/my), and click on the "geocaches (yours)" link at the top of the page. You can also get there from any Geocaching.com page by clicking on the "Your Profile" drop-down at the top and finding the "geocaches (yours)" link.
  7. I had DNF'd it 4 days prior to my find, first DNF on that cache. I remember thinking when I found it that it was a pretty sneaky place to hide it. It was actually my 78th find, so I had a little bit of caching experience. I found my first blank switch plate the day I DNF'd this one.
  8. MicroEvent? Far too many! It's a DecaEvent. 20-30? That's a large event around here. 5-10 would be more common.
  9. One membership should work for both.
  10. It may not be spelled out as the CO's responsibility, but, IMO, part of cache maintenance is keeping the inventory up to date. It is the CO's responsibility to maintain the cache. However, the topic of this thread is to have a system available for when COs and TOs don't take care of it. I still think what has been discussed is a great idea. I, personally, as a trackable owner, won't immediately mark a TB missing just because one person didn't find it. I'll put that cache on my watchlist and see if anyone else mentions missing TBs. I figure if two people say it's missing, it probably is, and I'll mark it so. In one case, the next person to find the cache picked up my TB and moved it on. The one that said it was missing had apparently found the wrong container. In a couple other cases, the CO has marked it missing. As a CO, I haven't yet had any TBs go missing out of any of my three caches, but if someone mentioned a missing TB in their log, I would go check it out myself. If it is truly missing, I would mark it so.
  11. Were some of them multiple find logs on the same cache?
  12. Neat game. Unfortunately, I'm in Iowa, U.S.A., and have no plans on going to BC anytime soon, so I'll probably never find the cache.
  13. I use the form to get an approximate rating, then adjust it according to my personal judgement.
  14. Why is this thread in the Travel Bug forum?
  15. I definitely wouldn't say that. I had never heard of that before. I've only attended one CITO so far, but it involved nothing like that. Maybe it's a local thing. I think if I had to give all that info to attend, I would do like cerberus1, and forget it.
  16. I would say that what you are thinking is what I would do. I have one puzzle cache, which is basically a p&g for the actual find, but I set the rating a bit higher due to the puzzle. I also mentioned in the description that the difficulty rating is due to the puzzle. Other puzzle hiders in this area do it that way, too.
  17. I've had 2 user names before my current one. I started out as marshall23, which was my first name, followed by my unit number for the volunteer fire department. When I moved away, I was no longer on the fire department, so the "23" didn't mean anything, so I changed it to IowaFoamr, to reflect my new location and occupation. Too many cachers I met thought I said IowaFarmer, so I decided to change it again to a less confusing name. At that point, I decided to make it something that wouldn't have to change again. My current name (Kacher82) is simply a deliberate misspelling of "cacher", and the year I was born. That will never change, so I'm good to go now.
  18. Are there any other letters/numbers in the code that could be confused? 0/O is one, but there is also 1/I, for one. The 0/O could also possibly be a Q. I'm not sure if the search is case-sensitive or not, but you could try typing all the letters as capitals, if you haven't already.
  19. Nice to see that Groundspeak does read the forums. I would still like to see a way to organize them (change order, groups, etc.), but that may be asking a bit much. This is definitely better than the way it was.
  20. To answer your first question, marking a trackable as "collectible" allows whoever is holding the trackable to put it in their "collection", which takes it out of their inventory. A trackable that is in a collection can only be "discovered", not dropped, retrieved, or grabbed. Generally, it's not a good idea to mark it "collectible" unless you're going to hang onto it yourself, like a personal tracker or something like that.
  21. Better make sure the cans have been thoroughly washed first. Empty cans could be worse than sealed ones. Back on topic: The cache page in question seems to have been edited. I don't see any commercialism there now. As for not allowing an agenda of any kind, in my mind, some agendas would seem to have nothing wrong with them, but a line has to be drawn somewhere.
  22. I've used my Nuvi to find a few geocaches, though I prefer my handheld (Etrex 20). You want to make sure it's set to pedestrian and off-road. It worked fairly well for me once I figured out the settings.
  23. I would support the idea of a "challenge" type, though I'm not sure what should be done about existing challenges. Changing the type of existing caches can really mess with people's stats. As for the icon, the check-box looks nice. That seems to be a key component of most challenges. Maybe give it a bit of color to make it more like existing icons (a green check-mark in the box, e.g.).
  24. Made the correction, and all is well. Thanks, Fizzymagic.
  25. I have the same problem. I had to turn the drop-down menu off from the Greasemonkey menu, and I would like to get the menu back. I've gotten used to it, and I'll miss some of the shortcuts. It would be nice if someone could get it fixed.
