  2. You can use watcher to merge several PQ's and then save it to a gpx file, and upload it to the Oregon. I have just created a 750 cache file. I think you could even go as high as 2000 this way.
  3. Thanks fellows, that was great info. see ya on the trails.
  4. How does one download GPX files directly from gc.com to the Oregon 300? Also how does one download PQs to the Oregon?
  5. It´s not the size of the file - maybe the 8GB-card is to big. I have a 4GB card and loaded it with about 3,6GB map and it works fine. I´m guessing you´ve got trouble with either a too big data-card for the device or too many waypoints (+500), which gave me some trouble - and a replacement of the device by Garmin. I called Garmin tech today and asked about the max size the Oregon 300 could take and he said 5 gig. Maybe that is the problem with larger cards??
  6. Actually, they're archiving caches that don't meet the guidelines of this site. Why are people getting upset that they're being told they can't post 5000 "finds" for caches that aren't listed on this site? Actually they are archiving and locking down pocket caches, that has been allowed in the past with out any warning what so ever, or instruction that they will be no longer allowed. That is what people are upset about, not the archiving, but the way they about it.
  7. I also have a dell (laptop) running xp. I also went through what you described, by d/ling gsak installed it, run it and it just sat there and said not responding. I waited a few minutes and the program started running. I assume that it was doing something internally, and took a while to complete whatever it was doing. It runs now without the delay it originally had.
  8. And I have hiked seven miles in to find a cache, uphill in waist deep snow,, in both directions.
  9. Ver 3.4 has been tested, the 3.4.2 is a beta so you take your chances. I find that the beta is still worth using because it worked on Garmin tech supports GPSr and has the latest changes. There is always the chance that something will not work right on the tested version and the beta version. Garmin must be confident that it works or they wouldn't have released the beta. I'm using the beta and haven't noticed any problems. To check your version, turn the unit on, menu, menu, setup, system, menu, software version. When I checked the software version it sain 3.60. Maybe I am responding to an old comment?
