  1. Have there been any Needs Maintenance logs? If not, log it. If so, and there has been no response, log Needs Archived. This will bring it to the attention of the local reviewer, who will contact the cache owner, and then archive the cache if appropriate. Once the caches are archived, the area is available for you to place your own cache.
  2. Actually... that's not what this topic is about. The OP is asking how many DNFs should be posted on a cache before the owner checks on it, not when do you post a DNF. The OP also asked:
  3. Your English is fine--not perfect, but perfectly understandable. Many native English speakers do not do nearly as well. You do have to log the cache, but you log it with "Write Note" instead of "Found it."
  4. Its possible, but written on the outside of the cache was www.geocaching.com and the www.geocaching.com instruction paper was included in the contents. On the instruction paper or the log book--was there a cache ID #? Starts with GC. Or a user name for the hider?
  5. You need to find a cacher (not just a "person") who is traveling from UK to US, and hand off the TB. Or maybe, you need to take a trip.
  6. If you backlog your previous visits, they show up with today's date, but sorted by the date you enter in the log. Looks weird, but maps correctly.
  7. I'm just the opposite; I tend to be brief and directly to the point. But I do try to write more in the log than just "TFTC" or "Found it"; maybe a sentence or two about the experience. But I do LOVE to read the stories that others write, whether on my hides or on caches that I'm going to seek. By all means, do keep on writing! Edited to add: Thought I'd read some of these long stories while I had lunch--well. . . . They're not so long at all.
  8. It used to not be possible to log a TB into an Earthcache. As it seems to be allowed now, there is nothing wrong with doing it.
  9. Hi Donna-- Welcome to Geocaching and to the forums. I also have an ETrex Legend HCx. To get turn by turn directions on it, you'd need to buy the additional mapping software (I think it was called Map Source--it's on a different computer.) It cost about $100 when I bought it. Also I don't recommend that you try to use it while driving--bring along a navigator to operate it. Nancy
  10. Just keep looking! When you look at a cache page that shows that it has trackables, look to see how long they've been there. If they've only been there a short time, they're more likely to really be there. And when you find out that the trackables are not there, log it. Log it on the cache page; log it on the trackables page; email the cache owner; email the trackable owner. Be part of the solution!
  11. Have you seen the "GPS in Education" Forum? And you might get some local help by posting on your Regional Forum.
  12. I have all my Geocaching emails going into a separate email folder. You could try that. Or you could set up a separate email account for Geocaching.
  13. This is pretty much what I was going to say, so I'll rephase some of it. Keep in mind that not everybody can cache every weekend even. And on some caching days nothing is found but micros and very small caches. On days like that, if I'm holding any trackables, I try to dip them in a cache or two to give them some activity even if I can't actually leave them anywhere.
  14. As soon as someone logs that they've grabbed it, is is no longer missing; if you want to, you can post a note expressing your joy that it is back in circulation.
  15. It says it will be 100 so I should be ok for getting them emailed ( but nothing and it says they have not been generated) I told it to run this query once and then delete it. How long should it take before it gets emailed ?? I am not sure why I cannot get this done???? Did you tell it to run on Saturday?
  16. It is supposed to; but people being people, never assume. You can always try to contact the cache owner and explain your concerns before you go; most will be happy to let you know if it's doable or not.
  17. Yep, that's interesting, and puzzling. What could be the purpose of dogtags with no number?
  18. I did 11 PQs over a few days, and did not change the email address on any of them from the default.
  19. Actually, I do have more than one account, but the other account also uses my NEW email address. Well, at least I know where to look, if I don't get my emails.
  20. About 8-9 months ago I changed my email address (for everything, including my geocaching account.) Since then all my geocaching email has come to my new address, including all my PQs. But this past weekend I had created 11 PQs for a trip we were taking; 10 of them came to my current email address, but one went to the old one. Is that weird, or what?
  21. You would have to get a TB tag, but you don't have to use it. Once you have the number, you can put it on anything you wish---BUT ONLY ONE THING PER NUMBER!
  22. You mean like this one? GC299TX Sorry, I don't know how to make a link that works. Nancy
  23. Within the past couple weeks I picked up 2 TBs that were showing as being in the hands of other cachers. In both cases I emailed the cachers who had them with the question "Do you want to log your drop or should I just grab it from you?" The first cacher responded immediatey asking me to grab it because he had forgotten which cache he left it in. So I did and then dipped it in the cache I took it from. So that worked out well. The second cacher has not responded yet--after 5 days. I'll give him one more day, then I'll grab it, because I want to be able to drop it off this weekend. If he gets upset about that, too bad; I think I gave him plenty of time.
  24. You will automaticallly receive emails whenever your own trackable is logged.
