I just came across this very same situation. A cache originally placed in 7/23, which I found in 12/23, went missing and the CO replaced it in 3/24, changing the placed date to 3/24. So how did I find it three months before it was placed?

Thanks for the info. I'm going to send them out with a card stating the mission and all that, but we'll see how far they make it. Thanks for the advice.
One of mine has a card saying "Please keep it in the USA." It has been roaming around Europe for a year and a half.

I was just thinking about this topic as my oldest caches are now approaching 22 years without intervention. I celebrated the 22nd anniversary of my first find last week.
All my longest-lived caches are ammo cans.
All my ammo cans have been stolen.

How about a friend or family member. (non-cacher)?

I've lived in the USA my whole life and recognized only about half of the terms on that list.
Ditto. (Not really a geocaching term, but I liked "plasma bandits."

I have done this so your statement must be false. A player sent me coordinates where he put my cache due to some reasons at the GZ. I went looking for it and found it. Then I logged "Found", because I legimately found it. This happened a long time ago when it was possible. Afterwards I removed this "Found" to avoid upsetting people with my single "stats abuse".
I had a cache in a local park which was moved by the groundskeepers when they cut down a lot of undergrowth. I then had to "find" the cache -- and bring a ladder to retrieve it. Afterwards I archived it.

Some really old buried caches were grandfathered in because they predated the prohibition, but probably shouldn't have.
Lots of geocachers are either unfamiliar with the Guidelines or see them as an inconvenience to be circumvented. A hide that skirts the rules (or worse) is creative and novel, and gets accolades from them. "Is this right?" is not a question that enters their mind.
Yes , caches that are "unique" are highly favorited and also copied. I have a Bookmark List of "Buried caches" and when I read through the logs, I see a lot of "I'm going to hide one like that."

List maintenance does not work in SAFARI. I have had success using CHROME.

Hi all,
We are new to the hiding side of Geocaching, however have been having some troubles taking co-ordinates.
We have had 2 issues, as follows -
1) co-ordinates not being correct. When taking co-ords I have made sure to take co-ordinates multiple times, with moving around in between to 'reset', using both google/apple maps and the geocaching app itself, however they show up in the wrong spot, as much as 10 meters from where they are supposed to be. Anyway to prevent this or particularly accurate GPS apps, etc.?
2) Geocache self altering co-ords? This is not my issue, but rather my father's. He reckons that after entering the co-ordinates, they showed up different on the cache page. Any ideas on what may be causing this and how to prevent?
Cheers all.1) Do not use maps!! Maps are good for checking that your coordinates are reasonable , but for actually taking coordinates use a good GPS coordinates app or a handheld GPS unit.
2) Someone mentioned different format--that would be my guess also.

You can always ask the CO for help. As creator of several puzzle caches, I would want to know what you have already tried; then I am always willing to give a push in the right direction. If the CO is unresponsive, you can ask a previous finder.

I also have been unable to manage lists in Safari. Switch to Chrome and they work fine.

Sometimes things take a little while to get caught up. Also logging out and then logging back in solves a lot of issues.

If they're your trackables then that's your perogative, I guess, but if they just sit in a rarely found cache for years on end then they're not doing much travelling and might just as well have spent that time in a drawer at home. In January 2021, a friend dropped a geocoin in one of my caches, saying in his log "Dropped off in a nice safe multi, doesn't get many visitors, but is well maintained." Doesn't get many visitors was right, as eighteen months later there hadn't been any more finds, so I thought I should go for a walk up the hill, retrieve it and move it along.
It was much the same story on another of my hides, with a trackable marooned there for eighteen months, although that one had a couple of intervening finders who just left it there and didn't even discover it. It's just on two years now since I went out to retrieve it, and just as well I did as the cache has had no more finders since. That one has been doing quite a lot of travelling and is currently residing in a cache in Victoria, so I think it was a good outcome for it.
One of my trackables was placed in a remote cache in January 2017. The cache has had 3 Finds and an OM since then. No one has mentioned the presence of a trackable in the cache. Another was placed in a cache in February 2018. No Finds since then. I have marked both of these as Missing.

Having passed my 81st birthday and 20th cacheversary, a lot has changed. I used to be an avid cyclist, but have given up bike riding altogether, because of balance issues and fear of falling. I used to enjoy hiking, but now I'm limited to very short (maybe half a mile at most) walks on a basically level surface. I'm just glad that I can get out at all; I know a lot of people my age who can barely walk around their homes.

And critters...we've lost a couple due to curious racoons, or squirrels...
I had one "safely" tucked into the fork of a tree, but it kept getting thrown out onto the ground. I suspected squirrels.

You can log a DROP in one of the caches you own, then you'll be able to mark it MISSING.

If you are missing something, so am I. I know it used to not work at all, maybe it still doesn't--I haven't tried it for years. Start over.

Then you get the case of a missing cache and along come someone and logs a find and resets the cache to findable. The TFTC type log, with no information. Gees if I found a cache following a line of DNFs I would write much more than TFTC. I find those logs suspect.
Sounds like a "throw-down" to me.

The Owner Maintenance log is supposed to be used when the CO has performed some sort of maintenance, not just thinking about it. "I will get out there this week" is properly a WRITE NOTE not an OWNER MAINTENANCE.

IMO, "joint" accounts between spouses are iffy, all others are a bad idea. (I originally wrote "cheating" but changed it to "bad idea")

I was one of the finders who posted coordinates--but that is irrelevant to the issue, which has now been solved.
