I'm not sure if any there is any interest, but I may have 4 extra 60c's (notCS). I could let them go for pretty cheap. If anyone would be interested in one, reply in here so I will know. My email has been less than reliable lately, haven't been getting a lot of stuff. I would need to know by the end of the week. I'm not sure what the going rate is, but would $400 (including shipping) be a fair deal? It sounds like most people are out of stock anyway, here is your chance to get one. They are new and sealed. You are right, my bad, I thought all the etrexes had WAAS.
-
I have a set of talkabouts, thats a heck of a deal, mine were 50$ for a set of 2, just units, no rechargeables or anything. They are decent though, won't get the full distance they say, but it is decent.
-
That sounds about right to me. Especially if you have WAAS on. We only get about 12 - 15 hours on our legend with alklines. That is with WAAS off, that is also driving mostly, if you are in and out of tree cover it will redeuce battery life too. Rechargeables will reduce life by a bit too, it all factors in.

My wife has a Legend, love it, if you need the compass and alitimeter, go with vista, but I would agree, wait for the 60 series, unless size is a big issue.
-
To my knowledge absolutely not, it is burnt into the chips, at least in the V it is and there is no way to change or modify, unless you can get new chips, but it would be near impossible to solder those babies in. Unless they changed (I doubt it) the 60's and put the basemaps in programable memory and you had a file you could re-write, but I haven't heard anything like that. I highly doubt it is feasible. Sorry to discourage you.

Why I Hate Retail Sales People
gessner17 replied to blindleader's topic in GPS technology and devices
HAHA, pretty typical of a sales person. I coudn't stand all the lies I heard employees telling people, it bugged me so much, I would be ticked if I was the customer, if they don't know about it, why the heck are they trying to sell or teach other people about it. I had to fix so many people mistakes there, because I was one of the few people that actually knew about the stuff, I can't tell you how many GPS deals I saved because the customer was wrongly informed about its capabilities (yeah, it will work in mamouth cave), I think that was one of the stupidest ones ever. -
How To Transfer Geocache File To 60c?
gessner17 replied to WayneH's topic in GPS technology and devices
You can get serial to usb, you just have to make sure it is an "active" one, usually has a box in the middle with an indicator light, but they usually cost $40-70, might as well get a serial cable. I used to sell them to people with cell phones that had serial data cables and their laptops only had usb. -
If your unit is out of warranty, call garmin, I broke the antenna mount where the wires are soldered onto the connctor and garmin wanted $150 to fix it, but I sweet talked a dummy unit, took the parts from it and did some soldering, my GPS III holds sats much better now. Garmin might send you a dummy model, keyboard is real, easy to change out, unless it is ultrasonically welded, I'm not sure how to get those apart and get them back together.

Why I Hate Retail Sales People
gessner17 replied to blindleader's topic in GPS technology and devices
I used to work at bestbuy (i know, I know) as a Tech and let me tell you, the managers could care less what you tell customers, as long as the product went out the door. It wa spretty sad. They would even tell us to flat out lie to people, they wanted techs to tell customers that MSN DIAL_UP is better than CABLE MODEM just so they could boost their sales numbers. Shortly after all this, I called it quits. They also tried to force me to play on customers fears when selling computers, telling them they would break and this and that, just so they could sell service. With big companys, its all about sales. The other thing is, they will put you in any department, no matter what you know about it, and just tell you to sell, I myself am very knowledgable with electronics, but they kept trying to put in the washing machines and refridgerators, blasted people, I Knew nothing about them and was always embarrassed. But that department was always short staffed so I always got volenteered somehow. The reason this happens is pay, who in their right mind would want to work for 6-8/hour if they are knowledgeable. They just want people who will do what they say, not think for themselves. Sorry had to vent, I am still scarred from working there -
Signal Lock - How Good On The New 60c/cs
gessner17 replied to Team Giblert's topic in GPS technology and devices
Has anyone noticed that it seems like the more you use your GPS (garmins), the better it does with holding sats? I know it makes no sense electronics wise, but I'm on my 4th GPS and it seemed like that on every one. Maybe it was just updating the firmware made it seem like that. -
How To Transfer Geocache File To 60c?
gessner17 replied to WayneH's topic in GPS technology and devices
Another round of about way to transfer geocaches is if you have an older unit (legend, V) transfer it to that, then upload it to mapsource, then you can download it your 60. Its a round of about way, but it works. -

I have a garmin 12, new in a box, turned on once, what are you offering?

My V gives me details on exits, it has food, gas stations, ect......, I would assume the 60 would not be anything less.

I'll take any offers too. -
Alright, cut the price down a bit, was a bit high, but I did, say OBO

I have a brand new internal zip 750 drive, no use for it, first 50$ takes it. These retail from over 100$ It is also a black faceplate. It reads all zip disks (100, 250, 750) and writes to the 250 and 750.

Free shipping too.

Ok, heres the deal, I will be selling my Garmin V, only to upgrade to a 60cs. It has been a great unit, well cared for, has latest firmware. I have everything that came with it and I have the handlebar mount and I will throw in a new front panel piece incase you scratch the screen bad or crack it in later use, I may even have a spare anntenna. The only catch is I can't give it up until I know for sure Garmin will be shipping out the 60cs's, I can't get stuck without a unit. It looks like it won't be long at all. If you're looking for a great unit, this is it. I am looking to get $275/obo. Please email me with any questions---gessner17@aol.com

Well, from my experience with working in the computer field, I have noticed 98 is faster than XP, only because XP takes up so much more memory with all the services it runs, but it results in a more stable OS. 98 also has a much less tasking GUI (graphical user interface). Just my personal opinion of course.

Does anyone know if the external power connector on the 60c is the same as the garmin V, III+, III? Just FYI, garmin told me they would be shipping the 60CS at the end up Jan, but who knows, they keep changing their mind it seems. I'll probably be ordering a 60CS and selling my V, anyone interested in a nice V?

Front Panel With New Screen For Garmin Ii, Iii, V
gessner17 replied to gessner17's topic in GPS technology and devices
Since there has been a bit of confusion, I will try to clarify, this is an original front plastic piece,, It is the plastic piece that is on top that includes the screen, not LCD screen, but plastic one (the one that gets scratched all the time), it is new and never used, easily installed.
