  1. Hello, I'm just checking to confirm that non premium members are eligible to be group officers. Can someone confirm this for me? Thanks, Rake.
  2. I think today it takes too long to replace deadbeat officers and leaders when there are members willing to take over. This should be much faster. There should be much less tolerance for keeping officers and leaders who are no longer active waymarkers. This is the heart of the problem for me.
  3. The shutters are coming off this category and the roof is caving in. I think it's become a crack house . I'm afraid the Childhood Homes category has become derelict for the usual reasons (leader long gone, most officers long gone or inactive). I am willing to become the leader. I sent notes to the last two remaining active members to start a vote to promote me. Waiting to see what happens. Let's renovate this fixer upper!

  5. I ended up returning the device. A number of showstoppers, first is I had a fairly large collection of topo maps purchased from Garmin. I was really surprised to read on their site that these don't transfer to a new device so big investment lost just because the device fell on a rock and shattered. Second, there is no support forum for the eTrex. Third I sent a few e-mails to their support address (for France) and never got any reply. Fourth, I initiated the device with my old SIM card in it and that caused complications I could not undo. I tried following the instructions to do a factory restart and could not get it to work. Conclusion, the device is clunky, slow, complicated, and Garmin provides no useful suppotr for this device.
  6. Hello, Up until now I've used Basecamp with my eTrex 30x to create routes on French topographic maps that I bought from Garmin. But I recently broke my eTrex and I can't seem to make the eTrex 32x that I bought for it work. I have really become fed up with Garmin and its complicated products and I'm looking for an equivalent solution to use on my Android smartphone. I am looking for solution which I could (preferably on my PC) create routes on digital French topographic maps in the public domain which I could then save in gpx format and download to an app on my Smartphone which would display the route on the same topographic maps I used to create the route. Any suggests for a solution would be greatly appreciated. BTW Anybody using Locus Map 4 Outdoor Navigation? RitC.
Cdt RitC.
  8. Here's hoping for a little more investment now from Groundspeak!
  9. Oops, I was off the grid for a while. When exactly did the odometer turn?
  10. I would have to respectfully disagree. According to Waymarking rules, categories must have at least 3 officers. I think counting inactive officers in that minimum may be respecting the letter of the rule but is really going against the spirit of the hobby and the way it was intended to work.
  11. I was just going to mention the problem of Ancient Aqueducts. All the above is true except there is one active officer who is approving all the waymarks. This is a disaster waiting to happen as there is no failsafe to keep this category from falling into complete neglect. I sent an e-mail to the inactive leader to request that Enrollment be turned on. Of course, after lots of experience, I have absolutely no hope that the leader will remotely consider my plea. I would like to ask wayfrog to look at this and consider working to force enrollment to be on. Fortunately, there is hope to rescue dying categories, but most often not without the intervention of wayfrog.
  12. Yeh, I'm an officer in the Carnivorous Plant Localities. Anyone want to help me "refresh" the officer's club?
  13. Still waiting for some movement on the Carnivorous Plant Localities topic.
  14. Carnivorous Plant Localities is seemlingly now in an abandonned state as wayfrog has been approving the more recent submissions. I have requested wayfrog to bump me up to an officier so we can get some vote action going to bring new life to the officer group. Do let me know if you are interested in becoming an officer in this category.
  15. The "Local Neighborhood Grocer" category is in need of some TLC. A waymark waiting approval E-mails to active officers are ignored. Many approved waymarks reviewed by wayfrog. I have asked Wayfrog to bump me up to an officer.
  16. Odd because bluesnote is normally very reactive. I will request becoming an officer.
  17. I have asked wayfrog to bump me to an officer in the carousels category. It is ripe for a reorganization. Looking for others willing to be officers.
  18. I thought Wayfrog had called a vote in the Skyscraper category many days ago to promote me to officer but no news back. In additional I have a waymark sitting in the Carousels category. Another distressed category...
  19. I do not find the photos posted on this waymark on the internet, and therefore have no proof that they do not belong to the waymarker. I don't feel like I can act without proof. I did find another waymark posted by the same person who took a copy/paste of google earth as a photo. I declined this one requesting an original photo be submitted.
  20. I sent the messge to the Core group, but given Groundspeak's history of e-mail problems (especially group e-mail distribution) I can't be sure if the members received it. Will continue to monitor...
  21. If I contacted the person directly, I guess I don't know what I would say. Do I call them out? I will send a message to the Core group.
