In a way I'm quite pleased it's postponed as I would like to be there and I was otherwise engaged today in Winchester.
So I'll probably be there now.

Jeremy occasionally posts to the UK forums which means he is probably aware of your web page and he hasn't complained about it yet, so it must be OK.
I think you're right in that the object of archiving a cache is to prevent people from trying to do the cache and so a list of archived caches that are obviously archived is probably OK.

alex.
Well if the cache owner wanted people to continue to look for the cache they wouldn't have archived it. Publishing archived cache details partly negates the point of archiving it in the first place.

I have a Palm m505 with a web browser on it (Eudora web). With that and a mobile phone I can access the cache pages while I'm out "in the field".
Eudora has a cache (pun intended) facility so you could load up the pages at home while on line and then access them in the field without dialing up.

Hmmm....
Is it normal RAM or does it need some sort of persistence when you power down the unit. I suspect it's not the same as the RAM you find inside your computer which is part of the reason why it's so expensive.
OTOH - The data cable for my eTrex has a non standard connector which to me seems a trick so they can charge £30 for it.

I wouldn't say it was hard unless you count a longish walk as hard. If I'd had a map with me even without the coordinates I'd have been able to find the optimum parking place quite easily which would have been fortunate since you don't publish the parking coordinates on the cache page.

Just a reminder to anybody coming along who wishes to take part in the afternoon activity, to bring a serial to GPSr data cable if they want to download the waypoints from EasyGPS rather than type them all in by hand.

If you select big numbers/small compass on the navigation page, you can have a location field.
I guess with small numbers there isn't room to display the whole field

The release notes say you can get a location field now in big number mode and small number mode.
Is it my imagination or is it not possible to get location in small number mode?

I was browsing the Garmin web site looking for the 2.26 firmware upgrade and I stumbled upon the Vista specification. The stated accuracy of the magnetic compass is ±5 degrees. If I remember correctly, mag north is about 4 degrees away from true North in this neck of the globe. This pretty much makes it irrelevant which one you use. I've left mine set to the default of true North.

I usually find that the need to walk across private land means I'm going the wrong way so I never do it unless there is clear evidence of a public right of way. This is probably a good argument to always take an OS map that marks public footpaths with you when you go caching.

Two weeks without a GPSr, that is a noble sacrifice.
If you're worried about keeping the TB until July, why not e-mail the owner and ask him/her what he/she thinks? If they say it's OK then fine, if they say not OK then put the travel bug in a cache somewhere. If they get angry and call you names, dismember the bug and place the pieces in several caches

Digital cameras
in United Kingdom and Ireland
Posted
It's later than you think....
Yes, for any given level of quality, digital cameras are *much* more expensive than siver halide film cameras, but for the purposes of most people you can now get a digital camera that gives adequate quality for a few hundred pounds. The quality of the photographs I get from mine (which cost £500 new) is not significantly worse than with my old Olympus Mu Zoom (which cost £200 new). Taking into account the cost of film and developing, it shouldn't be long before I've made a net saving. And I can do things like cure red-eye, crop photos, enlarge photos, produce copies and publish them on the Internet without the need for any special equipment other than a PC and a printer.
I have an acquaintance who used to be a photographer on the Sun and he confessed to me that all the newspaper photographers that he knew, now use digital cameras (albeit expensive ones) also for reasons of convenience.
I'd say, right now it is the day of digital photography although still early in the morning.
