  1. Hi all, Been meaning to ask this for a while. When i get an email notifying of new caches it always relates to my previous address in the Midlands. On my Geocaching profile my home location is correct in the account settings so what else do i need to change to ensure that i get notifications for my new area??
  2. Hi all, Many thanks for all the replies, some interesting things to think about, special thanks to 'JimJoolz' for in depth explanation and offer of help. Happy Caching!!
  3. Hi Cachers, Well after a lazy couple of years really where i've not done much Geocaching i've started 2014 with a renewed interest and determination. My question is how do fellow cachers plot the route they are going to take on a days caching, i might be doing things in a long winded and roundabout way hence the question? My GPS is a Garmin Oregon 300, probably a bit slow now but still working fine, my preparations are: 1) Decide where i am going to cache (i really quite like circulars) 2) Go to Grough Route and plot the course leading to the caches as a route 3) Download route to Garmin 4) Normal PQ for caches My Garmin doesnt have the OS map pack so i find plotting the route helps with footpaths etc although i have still found myself wrong side of the fence in a field . I've also found Grough Route a bit temperamental at times too!! Happy New Year Folks
  4. I understand there are some great hides at Saks Fifth Avenue. The topo leaves a lot to be desired though. Hi all, Thanks for replies and yes my bride will be more than happy caching in New York (well for a couple of hours at least ). We're staying in Long Island City 10mins by subway into Manhattan, only really looking to do one or two and drop off some TBs whilst there and start one of our own as a married couple from NY. Should be good
  5. Hi all, Just a bit of advice reall regarding planned visit (well honeymoon:)to New York in December. I've been caching in the UK for a while now with a Garmin Oregon 300 and it serves me well but: 1) Do i need to download a new map set for it? 2) I use Grough Route to plan my 'routes' and upload onto the Garmin, is there an equivalent i can use for NY? Many Thanks Kurtcat
  6. Outstanding............Many, Many Thanks
  7. Thanks for the replies, I will try and contact the CO and suggest he places a note in description and cache. It just beggars belief that one person is constantly stealing from this cache, i can accept that sometimes a cache will be muggled and things taken but what sort of person gets off on stealing a stuffed toy with dog tags attached, they must have an interesting 'Trophy' cabinet.
  8. After a bit of advice as to best way to proceed. On February 18th we were luck enough to be in the Lake District for a couple of days break. We found a well hidden cache GCX23J - The Pirates TB Base and placed a TB there 'Strippes the Race Horse'. Obviously kept a watch on 'Strippes' and the cache to see when it was found and follow the journey. At the time of placing there were two other items in the inventory for the cache - GeoNemo TB and Sleeping Dragon GC but they were not evident when Strippes was placed. Since placing Strippes the cache has been logged as found 3 times, the last time by mintfresh who placed their own TB. I was a bit surprised that no one had taken Strippes or any of the other items listed. I contacted mintfresh to ask if they had seen Strippes in the cache and this was the reply: Hi I'm responding to your message about the 'Pirates TB Base'. I'm sorry to report that I did not see any TB's in the cache when I visited. It is most concerning if someone is stealing from the cache, as I have dropped off my very first TB there. I notice that there are 2 other trackables reported as being in the cache, but viewing their notes a user has posted that they are no longer there. All very strange, hope that it is not as bad as it seems. mintfresh Further investigation into other logs posted for this cache would suggest that TBs and GCs are going missing from this cache on a regular basis. My questions are: Who should this be reported to? Should a log be posted advising not to leave items? Should the cache be archived with COs permission? Sorry for the long winded post but it is bloody annoying that someone could be doings this, Strippes that i placed had travelled over 13,000miles and i feel somewhat responsible as i placed him. Thanks
  9. I had the Etrex H as a Christmas present and its been a brilliant intro into geocaching. The downside initially was entering co-ords manually was time consuming and fiddly. Invested in a lead to connect to computer and thanks to 'Bear and Ragged' have found my way to using GSAK, an excellent utility. If cost is a factor you can't go far wrong as far as i am concerned, also if you are unsure you will enjoy the hobby then its a good choice, however my Etrex H is just over a month old and i am already looking to upgrade so more of an initial outlay may be worthwhile if you can.
  10. Almost Have downloaded GSAK and will give it a go, thanks again for the advice.
  11. Thanks for the quick reply, will look at GSAK. As for upgrading... only had this one i December but yes already looking at upgrade
  12. Hi there, I've had a problem downloading cache details to my Garmin Etrex H using the send to GPS feature. Basically the problem is where two caches have similar cache register numbers i.e. GC1T3Y8 and GC1T3YQ. As the Garmin only allows for 6 digits i had the problem at the weekend that the second one overwrote the first entry . Is there anything i can do to stop this from happening? Thanks in advance, Mark
