Trying to Figure Out Which Cache I Found...
BigFurryMonster replied to lolobentley's topic in General geocaching topics
Or what country, for that matter. The Earth is a pretty big place, even for a 'Forest Park'. -
Geocache Causes Lockdown at DisneyLand

Whatever circumstances, memos or prohibitions, the person placing the cache should have had permission. Poor Mickey. -
Advice On A Cache Series
BigFurryMonster replied to Tha Duh Feez's topic in General geocaching topics
Work with the owner of the signs (the city or community ?). Obviously, you have their permission to put the caches on the signs. Perhaps they can advise you on this. -
Geocaching.com site update Feb 14th, 2012
BigFurryMonster replied to OpinioNate's topic in Geocaching HQ communications
If we all use this, would the Google Maps hits count against Groundspeak, or against individual users? It's probably API-key-based, so I'd say Groundspeak, but I'm not sure how the script works. -
Geocaching.com site update Feb 14th, 2012
BigFurryMonster replied to OpinioNate's topic in Geocaching HQ communications
Repeating my earlier question: Isn't their any way that Groundspeak can have Google Maps accessed from the user's computer, rather than from geocaching.com ? That way, Groundspeak would avoid the load on Google by distributing it. For example, by linking to a Google Earth file, the user could use that to view a bunch of caches. Not sure if it would work similarly with Google Maps. -
Geocaching.com site update Feb 14th, 2012

Ouch. Just look at the differences: Isn't their any way that Groundspeak can have Google Maps accessed from the user's computer, rather than from geocaching.com ? That way, Groundspeak would avoid the load on Google by distributing it. -
Suggestion: list the 400 caches here and let the community figure it out. Solves issues regarding short notice period, and allows the tech gurus to help the jicknarsons of this world.

Cachefoto 2011(Log fotowedstrijd)
BigFurryMonster replied to Wad-Seekers's topic in Geocaching Algemeen
Publiceer je na de wedstrijd welke foto bij welke cache hoort? Dan kunnen we afgaande op de foto's de mooiste caches vinden (dan wel: door het mooiste landschap lopen). -
COMPLETED (32582) - [BUG] pictures displayed in a stamp sized window
BigFurryMonster replied to DanPan's topic in Website
So ... bug or not? The new topic title says 'COMPLETED' but I'm not sure if it is... -
Indeed, the maps should be at the heart of a great user experience, but at the moment, they're not. Besides the slowness you mention, the user friendliness, clarity and general usability leave much to be desired. Really hope the attention of Groundspeak focuses on fixing this, and not on such things as Challenges.

This happens before actually using the images. -
COMPLETED (32582) - [BUG] pictures displayed in a stamp sized window

I uploaded an image to my cache page a few days ago. This worked fine: http://img.geocaching.com/cache/e9950a6f-3090-42b4-a2e6-de551b5ced93.jpg Now, I corrected a few things in the image, leaving its dimensions (320x240) intact, but when I upload it now, the image gets rescaled to: http://img.geocaching.com/cache/display/70d824e0-55fc-4da7-a89a-1c1aac817fa4.jpg Note the word 'display' in the URL. What's going on here? Omitting the word 'display' manually fixes the problem. -
When I upload an image to my cache page, the link to the image now gets ?rnd=[number] at the end. Why is this?
-
While you're at it, don't make me tick "hide my finds" every time I access the maps.
-
OK, I've just made my cache page pixel-perfect. Spent the last three months uploading images and changing text until it looked just right. Now, there's all these image icons ("imageXX.jpg | Edit" between the maps and the logs) on my page. How do I get rid of these? Edit and manual deletion ..? Feature request: allow to either delete all icons from the page, or make a setting so they don't appear in the first place.

SUBMITTED (32386) - [BUG] Miles instead of KM user in search
BigFurryMonster replied to BigFurryMonster's topic in Website
I should be more specific here, sorry. The search I do is from the section "Latitude Longitude Search: / WGS84 Datum:". The text displayed says: "Radius: [ ] Kilometer(s) Radius". I fill in "1" and get 30 caches all within 1.6 km (1 mile) range. My units are set to metric. -
Yes, that would work.
-
When zooming out from my location on the map a bit, the icons become quite tiny and hard to see in relation to the map features (roads, water, etc.) The zoomed-in icons are fine. Suggestion: Change the change of display of icons to something customizable. That way, if there's many caches, I can use the small icons. If there's only few, I can see the bigger icons.
-
Feature request: Create a page where you can see the number of Favorite points a cache owner has accumulated across his caches. Possibly selectable per country or province. This will stimulate cache owners to create even better caches.

Sorry, I meant the Feedback button. I see it on the gc.com homepage now, but the Redirect link (or any link) is missing from the Forums page. -
Lock n Lock deal on woot.com
BigFurryMonster replied to Chrysalides's topic in General geocaching topics
Grr. US only. Anyone know a good deal for EU? -
Tried to post something in the 'Geocaching Website Feedback' Forum but couldn't. Then realized that there used to be a redirect to Get Satisfaction. Did something change? I noticed a recent post calling for feedback but am unable to post anything.
