  1. I like the Pettibone cache. It really seems like it should be obvious, but forces you to keep looking. You drove right by here on your trip. Keep up the caching, this 50 states thing will give you bragging rights for sure.
  2. hehe Sounds like some geocachers might get caught in the crossfire. Better list that when you post it on geocaching.com as a possible terrain hazard, but it'd make for an interesting cache story.
  3. At least she posted in the right region here. She might find a few from her area. A bit of a drive for me though.
  4. hehe For other outdoor activities: Canoing/Kayaking, Flyfishing, Camping (I mean the legal kind, not stealth camping), General Adventuring (Makes for a lot of long stories I can tell) For other general hobbies: Playing Guitar, Computer Programming, Reading (quick fav. authors - Craig Thompson, Anne Rice, Clive Barker, Stephen King, Friedrich Nietzche), Web Page Design, Hanging out with my old college friends at the bars in La Crosse, Smoking a Briar Pipe (trust me it's an art), and listening to music (from many different countries) TFTT < Thanks for the Thread This is a great topic.
  5. I know she's not with a geocache container, but I found this geodog bandana for her in a cache on Granddad's Bluff and thought it might be worth a glance for you.
  6. I like it because it's one of the best uses for the internet as far as gaming goes. I was a computer science major in college, so the marriage of internet technology and a GPS device infatuated me to a certain point. Most of all it gets tech geeks like me out into the world instead of just sitting on the computer all day.
  7. Wow, so there is a cache in every section. I'm both impressed and shocked that someone would go to all that trouble, but to each their own. Cache on!
  8. Wow, that's a great site. I was wondering about some of the lexicon too. The site has moved to http://geolex.locusprime.net/ though, but your link did get me there. I'm going to post a smaller list of the typically used abbreviations on the geocaching section of a new website I'm putting together right now, and this was very helpful. Thank you.

    Winter Caching

Polar Fleece or Wool socks are good, but I've never had a problem. If you keep moving enough, usually you'll build up a bit of body heat hiking to the location so frozen toes aren't an issue.

    Winter Caching

Welcome to the game! I do have a suggestion for winter caching - steel toed boots. They're the next best thing to a sledge hammer for loosening frozen logs/rocks/branches from the ground where you think the cache might be.
  11. Rochester and Winona... now you're almost talking my area (La Crescent)! Of course its a good 200 miles out of the way of Minneapolis... but hey if you DO get to SE MN then you could try P3nGu1N's Creepy Cache. Only 2 people have found it so far, but it's halloween themed and lots of fun. I told one of my known geocacher friends about it too, but he has a sprained ankle. There are a lot of cool caches on the mississippi here.
  12. Do you think there's even a cache in # 104 or # 57?
  13. I've only done stealth camping while crossing the mexican border... and that was by necessity. Stakes were high since Texas has a law that anyone you catch on your land after 9 pm you can shoot and ask questions later. I don't recommend doing it to anyone, but if you are going to stealth camp here are a few tips - don't light a fire until morning so if the smoke of extinguishing the fire attracts the landowners you're already treking on your way, try to pitch your tent in a densely wooded area away from any roads, and if possible cover your tent with a little bit of foliage before taking your rest, don't pitch your tent too close to streams/rivers as they might be frequented by DNR looking for illegal fishermen. Bring more food than you think you might need incase you have to hold up in a place longer than expected if you hear people near the area when you wake up, along with extra water (or something with electrolytes preferably). That is all.
