  1. @Atlas Cached you don't need to have a birdseye subscription to generate .jnx files (satelite views) for your gps - you can do it through a 3rd party application SAS Planet -- google search is your friend.
  2. @Mineral2 @ras_oscar sometimes hopping between applications is confusing, have you simply tried doing the following: 1) run a pocket querry / create a manual list from this website 2) import the .gpx file from the above into basecamp, under specific local list 3) **most important** use the free preview of birdseye to download the area around geoaches in 2 above to basecamp. this gives you full view except that you can't save the file locally or send to your device if you don't have a subscription 4) map out whatever you need with the help of the gps view from above to the list, parking lots, walking route, whatever. 5) send the whole list to gps i have been reading many posts people complaining that birdseye is stuck 10 years behind google, and in some areas i'm sure it's true. i'm finding it to be 90% there in the woods/areas that i look at. it seems that for a lot of my wooded areas birdseye tops out at 80ft resolution vs. google will go down to about 36ft, i think i can live with that as even at 80ft i'm able to see any trails, formations, etc. that i need. if it's very heavy tree cover i won't see anything whether it's at 36ft, 80 or 200ft. i use the above method to try to limit myself from hopping around different applications. the really bad thing is that you can't see a global satelite view in basecamp, but if your workflow is to scope out a specific area/park/nature reserve the above should work just fine.
  3. i went with a 66 because it's an only garmin unit (outside of biking dedicated units) that i can use with high frequency recording interval: - it has 20,000 point ability vs. <=10,000 for other units - most importantly if you're recording an activity as a .fit it has unlimited point recording. so i can go on a 6 hr bike ride and not worry about having split tracks at the end of the day. while still not a clean interface like a new iphone, the auto loading gaches based on where you point your map to (without having to downoad anything to computer first, etc.) is a great feature. also very much like that you can download birdseye - for a lifetime - directly to the unit without ever having to log into basecamp. i also hacked my unit so it can accept .njx files generated from SAS planet, something that 62 and 64 also have.
  4. while birdseye is not the nicest/fastest out there your issues are not something that i've encountered (and i've only been doing this for about 2 weeks since i bought my 66st). - birdseye will throw up and flat out tell you if you've selected too large of an area. - make sure you always have 'highest quality' export selected - are you actually verifying that birdseye is of good quality before you even download it? you can overlay it on an area as part of a free trial and zoom in a bunch of times and looka t the scale and see where it breaks down. - to have it go faster download it to basecamp without auto uploading to the device. you can then push it to the device separately and i find that even though it's 2 steps it's much quicker in summary. - you should really explore something like SasPlanet, if you have windows. there are 2 steps that you'll have to make additionally (you'll find them in the instructions as you're searching for sasplanet) where you hack your 64 to accept external .jnx files. you can then make infinitely more detailed satelite maps from many sournces, including google maps and drop them into your birdseye folder.
  5. *every* single time i open the app it goes through the same annoying "intro" procedure where it makes me click next on "lets discover points" etc, and always brings me to some garbage point that i have no interest at looking at, i just want to load up the screen to my location and see a map. is there a way to prevent it?
