  1. Webshots is a nice screensaver and wallpaper program that allows you to create custom screensavers and wallpaper-changers, using your own photos. I've used it for a couple of years, and I'm a happy camper.
  2. 6. Be your own coordinate verificator. This is a variation of #2. Come back a day or so later, and pretend you dont know where the cache is. Check that the sattelite configuration is good and that you have a decent estimated accuracy. Just follow the GPS and see where it leads you. If you get within 30 feet the coordinate is fine.

    Google Earth KML

You can have accurate coordinates in Google Earth by dragging your pocket query GPX file onto the map window of GE. If you need more control, the GPX can be imported into GSAK, filtered and massaged there and then exported to GPX, and imported into GE. I am sure there are free alternatives to GSAK that can provide similar functionality.
  4. That countdown mechanism has been there as long as I can remember.
  5. I like the approach taken by R.O.B in post #56. Just deprive the guy of what he craves, and he will quit eventually.
  6. I guess the fix for this is called Firefox or Opera. Whether it is a temporary or permanent fix is up to you.
  7. Looks like the cacher in question has changed his mind and revised his log entry.

    Container Size

Ok, I get it But I think the current guidelines leaves room for interpretation, which is unneccessary and could be easily fixed. Thanks.

    Container Size

In our national forums we are currently discussing if it is the internal or external size of the container that determines the size category of the cache. Some people think that it is what the container can store that is important, while others (myself included) think the size category is to give the cacher an idea of what to look for. One cacher has stated that he has a 18.4 kg micro in the works. I'd like any input on this isssue, and preferrably a clarification from TPTB. Edit: Sorry, I posted this message in the wrong forum. Could the appropriate moderator please move this topic to the 'Geocaching Topics' forum?
  10. My Nüvi 350 is called Nora after the name of the norwegian TTS voice. My 60C is called 'gråtass', which roughly translates to 'little grey one'.
  11. For your information, most people (myself included) would consider writing in all caps as you did, equivalent to SHOUTING. You may consider turning caps-lock off
  12. You will also discover that there aren't too many caches in France, they recently passed the 1000 caches milestone for the whole country. I think there is a competing french listing site that is more popular, but I don't know its name. As usual, the french insist on doing things their own way...
  13. Since you are a premium member I'd suggest either Google Earth KML or GSAK combined with pocket queries and an arc filter. Of the two, the former is the easiest to get going with, and Google Earth is a fantastic program in itself. So is GSAK also, but for different reasons altogether.
  14. Looks like you have a character set problem. I tried loading my own GPX, and got the message "Input string was not in correct format". When I click on the 'close' marker in the upper right corner of the window, I get the following message: See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box. ************** Exception Text ************** System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at CacheStats.StatsForm.OnClosing(CancelEventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Form.WmClose(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Form.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam) ************** Loaded Assemblies ************** mscorlib Assembly Version: 1.0.5000.0 Win32 Version: 1.1.4322.2032 CodeBase: file:///c:/windows/microsoft.net/framework/v1.1.4322/mscorlib.dll ---------------------------------------- CacheStats Assembly Version: 1.0.2348.35896 Win32 Version: 1.0.2348.35896 CodeBase: file:///C:/Program%20Files/LogicWeave/CacheStats/CacheStats.exe ---------------------------------------- System.Windows.Forms Assembly Version: 1.0.5000.0 Win32 Version: 1.1.4322.2032 CodeBase: file:///c:/windows/assembly/gac/system.windows.forms/1.0.5000.0__b77a5c561934e089/system.windows.forms.dll ---------------------------------------- System Assembly Version: 1.0.5000.0 Win32 Version: 1.1.4322.2032 CodeBase: file:///c:/windows/assembly/gac/system/1.0.5000.0__b77a5c561934e089/system.dll ---------------------------------------- System.Drawing Assembly Version: 1.0.5000.0 Win32 Version: 1.1.4322.2032 CodeBase: file:///c:/windows/assembly/gac/system.drawing/1.0.5000.0__b03f5f7f11d50a3a/system.drawing.dll ---------------------------------------- System.Xml Assembly Version: 1.0.5000.0 Win32 Version: 1.1.4322.2032 CodeBase: file:///c:/windows/assembly/gac/system.xml/1.0.5000.0__b77a5c561934e089/system.xml.dll ---------------------------------------- dmm9c9nf Assembly Version: 0.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 1.1.4322.2032 CodeBase: file:///c:/windows/assembly/gac/system/1.0.5000.0__b77a5c561934e089/system.dll ---------------------------------------- ************** JIT Debugging ************** To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this application or machine (machine.config) must have the jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section. 15. I proposed this feature back in january. Never got a response from TPTB, though.
  16. That's like US$7.04/gallon, right? Somebody check my numbers. Aaron Thats about correct. I filled my tank with petrol yesterday. At 11.55 norwegian kroners pr liter it converts to $7.14/gallon. This is in the oil-producing country of Norway. About two thirds of the price is due to different "environment" taxes. However, when one calculates the cost of petrol as a percentage of yearly average income, petrol has never been cheaper. Go figure. And it certainly does not stop me from caching.
  17. Hi, sorry for coming so late to the party. Oslo has about 700 cahes in a radius of 50 km, with a huge variety in styles and difficulties. In the tourist-friendly area of Oslo city center there are almost exclusively micro or small containers. Here are my favourites in the city center, in no particular order. GCKC2C Between Beers Book Crossing GCH7FB Ibsenringen GVM85D UiO Basic GCH7FA A Dolls House (currently unavailable) GCMVJ2 Requiescat In Pace (In a famous cemetery) GCKVZ4 Small Brown Horse GC7ED7 1538 Moss #Money Exchange (Norways most visited cache) GCMAQK Hanging from the gates GCM78P Akerselva Exit GCH4AH Sightseeing Oslo GCQRKT Berthas minde ( my own cache ) If micros are not your thing you will have to venture outside the city centre. If there is interest, I can compile a list of good caches that will require some traveling ( subway/bus or train).
  18. There is already such a feature ( or nearly so), and it is called a Pocket Query. Check out http://www.geochaching.com/pocket and http://www.geocacher-u.com/resources/mindingpqs.html
  19. Hi, I downloaded the installer, but when I try starting it I get the message 'CacheMate_setup.exe is not a valid Win32 executable'. Downloaded and tried it on a couple of different pc's, result was the same. Also tried with virus scanner off. Windows XP SP 2.
  20. GSAK plus Pocket queries does the trick for me. The former is payware and latter is a Geocaching.com premium member feature. Otherwise, you can just do 'File->Save As' in your browser for each cache you want to take offline. Cumbersome but cost efficient. Tzoid
  21. Bring lots of extra batteries, especially for the GPSr. Backlighting really makes those power units drain quickly. You dont want to stand in the middle of a big park or something and not know where you are.
  22. I'd like to see the usual links to mapping services on the additional waypoints detail page. Thanks.
