  1. *Long* before I started Geocaching, i used those little pill containers to carry crushed hot peppers (mostly Habenero) to add to food when I went out. Almost lost it one time when I entered our local County Courthouse and the guard on duty made me give it up. Guess he was afraid I'd use the peppers as a weapon..
  2. Something seems to have worked, as I finally was able to register. Thanks..
  3. Haven't been around long, but went back and looked at my logs. About half of my finds are micros. Most of my online log entries are at least a couple of sentences long.
  4. As a newbie who's found both ammo cans and bison tubes (and a UFC {Ubiquitous Film Can}). I have to agree with this statement. All my micro finds have been fun.
  5. Being a pain in the a** and addding to my "Treasure Hunting" comment... On Geocaching.com's home page there is a "Welcome to Geocaching" paragraph. First sentence reads: Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. I agree that "Treasure Hunting" seems to imply a TREASURE, but seems to me that that is still a valid definition of what we are doing.
  6. Unfortunately their CAPTCHA sucks.. I've tried 4 times to read the letters and failed all four times. Not worth any more effort.
  7. Own a Garmin GPS III Plus. Close to 10 years old. Still work just fine. No WAAS and accuracy and selectivity isn't up to modern recievers, but it still works. Unless there are changes to the satellites, the old GPSr will work.
  8. Ok.. reasonable.. But how do you explain Geocaching when you get that blank stare. A 10 minute dissertation ain't going to work when suspicious neighbors are wondering what you're doing wandering around on "their" road. I live in rural Oregon. Believe me, I'd be out there asking questions.
  9. A week ago, roommate and I were out (her first time -- loved it). Twice on rural residential, cars pulled up and asked us what we were doing. First time we said we were geochacing, we got a blank stare. Roommate started to explain it was a treasure hunt with GPSr and they seemed to be satisfied. Second one was an older lady and we explained to her, she said "Oh, my son does that"... Neither seemed to be interested in the caches and neither were shown any. Don't think I'd have shown either of them the cache unless I saw real interest.
  10. OK.. So I'm 900' above North Plains. Still just got in from feeding the animals and it's snow pretty good. Gotta love Oregon weather...
  11. Rain...?? Don't need no stinkin' rain. It's snow right now here in beautiful Northwest Oregon..
  12. Someone mentioned Cafepress. They've got a ton of t-shirts, bumperstickers, cups and mouse pads available. My favorite: I'm Not A Terrorist, I'm Geocaching
  13. Bringing myself back into this discussion. I've only got 11 finds so far, but I've made my decision to mark DNF on any cache I make an attempt at. For me that doesn't mean just driving by. I need to make an active attempt. If the weather sucks, too many muggles asking what I'm doing, afraid I'm going to slide down a steep slope, it's still going to be marked DNF with an explanation. Thanks for everybody's input.
  14. May sure you're at the right cache.. Spent 20 minutes yesterday reading the wrong description. GPS set for one cache. iPhone info looking at another just down the road. Once we got it straight, found it in about two minutes..
  15. The reason I asked, because my gut feeling was that because I'd made an attempt, I should log the failure. I probably wouldn't log if I didn't make ane attempt. Think I'll go ahead and log a DNF, with an explanation of the cause (crappy weather ). Thanks folks for helping a newbie..
  16. Do you *always* log DNF? Went out a couple of days ago to look for a cache just down the road. Knew the area and thought it would be an easy find. By the time I parked, it was pouring down rain and I spent about 10 minutes wandering the road getting wet. Found an approximate, but it was out in the wet weeds. Gave up for the day. I did not mark DNF because I intend to return on a better day and find it. Right or Wrong?
  17. Super... Thanks for the notice.. I'll install this afternoon..
  18. Testing.... The late, great Gina and her little friend BatGirl.
