  1. Did it. So few geocachers/benchmarkers/waymarkers my age.
  2. I have found a numerous caches that have dirt, twigs, leaves, etc. and "toys" that children would not even want. What are your ten favorite cache items?
  3. I have a 17" Toshiba Satellite P100/P105 Series Laptop Computer. I want to be able to use the laptop in the Bronco; cafes, etc. that offer free wi-fi; hotel/motel with free wireless, etc. etc. What do I need to "take it on the road?"
  4. I received my The Dalles-Dash Geo Coin last week in the mail. My #2 son, Christopher, received his geocoin in the mail today. The Dalles Chamber of Commerce retained ownership. Christopher and I did the 2007 Mt. Hood Territory Geocaching Challenge on August 26, 2008. There were about 7 or 8 geocoins remaining but I heard that they are all gone now.
  5. The fearless team of Sam8994 & DarK JazZ have both GeoCoins in hand. These were both very fun, and a great way to learn about our area. Now we are looking for another challenge! Can you say largest finds in one day? If you are looking for another challenge there is The Dalles-Dash in The Dalles, Oregon. However you do not get the Geo Coin at the completion of finding the required number of caches. They mail the coin to you after they have activated it.
  6. I have done three in Oregon this summer: the 2008 Mt. Hood Territory Geocache Challenge and the Canby Geo Coin Hunt in July as well as The Dalles-Dash Geo Coin Hunt in August. All were great fun. Canby, Oregon is doing another Geo Coin Hunt in another month or so. I guess that I really do not care who "owns" the few coins that I have collected. I have no intention of releasing them. It is getting to the stage that I need to stop at a coin shop and purchase some plastic windows and a binder to put the plastic windows in.
  7. I do not want The Dalles Chamber of Commerce to have ownership. How do they go about "adopting the coins over to new owners?" I want to have ownership. I have no intention of releasing the coin "into the wild."
  8. I traveled two hours to get to The Dalles where I completed 11 out of 12 caches (searched for over an hour for the one near Pulpit Rock that was missing and shortly thereafter archived) for The Dalles-Dash Coin Hunt. However when I turned in the Password answers at The Dalles Chamber of Commerce in mid-afternoon, I was not given a Geo Coin even though the coins were in the C of C. I was told that the Executive Director wanted to activate the coins before they were given out. Query: does a Geo Coin have to be activated before it is given to the Geocacher?
  9. Team 360 has the original can of bean. Although it's actually a can of blackeye peas. He even put it up on ebay a couple of years ago, but no one met his asking price. Also there was alot more in the original cache than just a can of peas. El Diablo The can is stamped: JH0924 08_ _ B044A. I have several photos but did not know how to submit them.
  10. As near as I can figure out, Groundspeak uses Gray Scale which was not printing dark. I replaced the black ink cartridge however I evidently needed to have a color cartridge also. I replaced it. The printer needed to be set for color printing.
  11. The problem evidently lies with the printer. I changed the black ink cartridge but not the color cartridge. The setting on the printer was likely for "color." I will either put a new color cartridge in the printer or I will change the setting and see if that works.
  12. Try this: Copy the page. Paste it into Word.Select the entire document. CHANGE THE FONT. There are fonts used online that print out barely visible. Some Unicode fonts are horrid to print. Oops. I forgot to mention that I did CHANGE THE FONT. I have printed out benchmarks and geocaches in the past and it worked just fine. It does not now. The Sony PC is hooked up to Comcast and the Mac G4 is AOL via phone lines. But printing does not work on either.
  13. After finding a traditional cache in an area with broken glass and a dead rabbit with no view whatsoever I decided that there had to be something different. So I created historical geocaches. If a cacher is into numbers, the cacher does not want to do my geocaches with a couple exceptions. And the "rewards" are only micros -- not ammo cans.
  14. I think that I posted this earlier in the wrong section so here goes again. I have a Sony PC and a Mac G4 hooked up to a hp deskjet 6122 printer. I am able to clearly print anything except benchmarking pages. The PC page came out a little darker than the page from the G4 but both were practically unreadable. I even tried to copy a page, put it on a document, bolding the print and then printing to no avail. It still came out very light and almost unreadable. Is anyone out there having the same problem? I know that I should go the paperless route but I like having a printed page. I photograph the top of the page before I take digital photos so I can identify them. Also I make notes on the printed page that comes in handy later when logging.

  16. Several FREE large restrooms, a dozen I believe, were set up in Times Square in time for Holiday Shopping. The newsperson commented that the restrooms were larger than some New York apartments. Slight exaggeration but the one that was shown on television was quite impressive. Now if we just had a Free Restrooms Category!
  17. I was shopping for Calendar Christmas gifts at Barnes & Noble yesterday when it dawned on me after awhile that the titles of a lot of the calendars would make great Categories!
  18. Great idea! Portland has the largest independent used (and new mixed) book store in the world. The Powell store covers one entire city block several stories tall. You can pick up a map at the entrance showing the color coded sections. Nice cafe.
  19. I would be willing to be an officer also. So now we just need a leader. If you wish, you can start a new thread in the new forums about this. Hopefully someone will be interested. I think that it is a great idea in anyplace in the world.
  20. That is a great idea! Some of these bridges have historical plaques. Some have been converted to pedestrian walkways. Some have interesting structure. Etc., etc.
  21. One of my favorite places to take people on my tours is the restrooms at the Convention Center in Portland, OR -- both the womens and the mens. I have the women visit the womens restrooms and the men visit the mens restrooms and then switch off. The artwork is fantastic! One of the womens restrooms has large, realistic, black spiders drawn in the white toilet stall tiles. My daughter was not amused! As for cell phones, I see people all the time in restrooms with cell phones. Of course they are not using them for nefarious reasons. I think just to have a restroom with a toilet, any kind, is great. The "restroom" in a Paris cemetery was just a hole in the floor. I regretfully did not use it. It made for a long afternoon wait. My favorite restrooms are located in upscale hotels. Its a challenge to locate the ones that are open to the public--usually in out of the way places. Photos of some of those restrooms would be great!
  22. I received this message: Thanks for trying to help me. Your initial answer was the answer. I changed the pixel to 600x450 and the picture uploaded with ease. So we are all set with a picture on my visit log. (end of message) However the person evidently had problems later uploading photos onto the sites. So the problem goes beyond reducing the size and JPG setting. I save with or without submitting before I upload photos as I lost too many filled out waymarks when I began Waymarking. AOL is not compatible with the new system on my computer so I have been using Firefox. Thankfully my adult children are computer literate or I would simply be lost at times!
  23. I'm just curious - why do you do that? The Waymarking site does that reduction itself automatically. The Waymarking site does not reduce my photos automatically--never has and probably never will. I do not know if it is the phone line, my Sony PC computer or my Canon PowerShot A510 camera but the Waymarking site does not reduce my photos automatically. After I lost several filled out waymark forms when I tried to upload photos, I began experimenting with reducing the size of each photo. I came up with 600 X 450 JPG. However, I do not reduce scanned (film) photos which the waymark site does accept.
