  1. My idea never was to change the theme or method of finding this cache as some seemed to think. Just thought that QR codes might be a fun alternative to the ribbons. I’ve found some more threads about QR codes too, so I’m not the first. I’ll keep working on it though, and plan to add tags with the codes for those that do use a smartphone either in place of or along with a GPSr. If nothing else, it could save someone some time by them not having to manually enter each new set of coordinates.
  2. I just adopted my first cache! Not my first hide though. But happy to have the chance to be involved in this one now. GCHQ32 is ‘A branching multi-point and multi-route cache’ as described by the original owner. I found it several years ago after attempts over multiple days. It’s the best cache I’ve found so far, not that I’ve found all that many. Since then, it has all but died, but now I get to bring it back! I had the idea of changing to, or at least adding QR codes or similar to the waypoint markers. Does anyone know if there’s a universal app (iOS/Android) that would support this? Not sure I can describe it very well - but what I have in mind is you would scan the QR code, and then it would give you the choice of which coordinate to go to for the next one. Some provide a choice, some are dead ends, and others just send you forward with no options, ultimately ending up the final and physical cache.
  3. Also - added this as a new topic earlier, but then found this thread - but here’s what I posted. *Custom Trackable Code* I sent an email to geocaching.com, asking if it was possible to purchase or have a custom trackable code created, using my amateur callsign as the code. Their response unfortunately was that custom tracking codes are not currently available. I’m wondering if there was enough interest from other hams/geocachers, maybe we could get them to create the codes for us. Any thoughts/interest in pursuing this with me?
  4. WA7ADV in Washington State. First geocache about 10years ago. Have had a lot of down time with finding many, but usually have my family along when we do go look for more. I/we finally hit 100 finds last weekend! Hoping to be more active in the future as I’m riding an adventure/touring motorcycle now, and working on incorporating radio/SOTA into it as well.
  5. Hello, Any Hams/ radio people here? I sent an email to geocaching.com, asking if it was possible to purchase or have a custom trackable code created, using my amateur callsign as the code. 6. The custom cache list program on the Brand44 site is for PCs. No other Mac support now except for the GeoMate Loader program which is used to flash the regional .gpx files. I did figure out how the Pocket Queries work though, at least basically. While one has to subscribe to the premium membership, the PQs allow for a custom list of caches to be downloaded as a single .gpx file which can then be flashed via the Geomate Loader. Another program I came across and decided to try out is iCaching. It is not free, but so far I like it. There's quite a bit to it, but for the geomate jr, I can also make a custom list of caches and then export to a single .gpx file. So now hopefully I can get everything explained decently enough to the family who's receiving the new unit as a gift so that they can continue to use it on their own!
  7. Is anyone still using a geomate Jr? I hadn't used mine for quite a while, but really liked it for the kids and I purchased a second one a few days ago to give as a gift. I quickly learned about the near death of the whole thing, and how it was saved by Brand44. But now I feel like the update process for it is even more complicated than it used to be. I'm a mac user. The gift unit is for a PC family. I've figured out how to update with the regional list which I think is a weekly update now. And I can load a single .gpx file to it as well, using the GeomateLoader program available from the current product website. What I can't figure out yet, and would like to so that I can pass the knowledge on to the new users, is how to make a custom list of multiple caches and get it loaded onto the unit. I've never played with PQs before, is that the solution?
