  1. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.asp...p;lng=-5.163833 I'm not sure what that list is of, but some of them are certainly only walkable.. or I'd love to see a 4x4 go through a Kissing gate and over a stile!
  2. Paul.. If you read the thread, nobodies said that Geocaching are changing the rules. It appears that Alan ( A letterboxer) has concerns about two caches being placed in "Dartmoor Antiquities" one of which is your cache, one of which is a Hobo and Miss Dartmoor & Princetown Railway cache. The Letterboxing code of conduct which was agreed with the National Park says: LETTERBOX OWNER'S CODE. 1. Boxes should not be sited:- In any kind of antiquity, in or near stone rows or circles, cists or cairns; nor in any kind of building, walls or ruins, peatcutters' or tinners' huts etc. Alan believes (and I tend to agree) that Geocaches should follow the same Code re hiding caches. I've not done your cache, so can make no comment, but I agree I've seen caches in totally inappropriate places.
  3. or restrict every cacher to hiding a maximum of ten caches...then we'd have to be far more selective as to which caches we put out..
  4. and one in Cornwall - GC25Q8J 10 Years! Tintagel, Cornwall
  5. The postcode option works fine for me..
  6. Theres a few links for sites I'd found useful, on our Cornish Website here
  7. I've "done" two coins for Cornwall. The problem is you have to pay for artwork and dies no matter how many coins you have made, so whilst I'm sure someone will quote for an order of 25 coins - it won't be very economic. Check, but I think if you want your coin to be trackable with its own icon you need to place a minimum order of 100. From experience, the best UK made price I could find was about £30 a coin, plus the Groundspeak Tracking and icon charge, so the coins would have sold at the £35 mark. By buying from China, via a Canadian company! we sold coins at £5 a throw. One possible option - if enough UK cachers were interested, is to design a generic coin, that could be personalised to a degree. If anyone's interested in that option then give me a shout through my profile (with an idea of how many you'd want) and I'll do some sums as to a probable cost. *mouse* has linked to the two companies that seem to make a lot of coins for UK based cachers. My experience with Landsharkz is very very good and I know others are very pleased with Oakcoins. There are other companies though.
  8. Whilst terribly off topic, and nothing to do with caching.. When I wasn't caching, I volunteered to help for a bit at an animal sanctuary/zoo type place. It was indeed great fun -but- when working in an enclosure with the Raccoons, members of the public would wander up, read the information panel and obviously not believing a word it said, would ask me questions. Little did they know that I was merely cutting the grass and new nowt (or very little) about the diet of the beasts... Member of Public - "What do they eat"? Me - "They're very partial to pasta, though they can't hold a fork in their paws so can't cope with spaghetti " and they'd wander off quite satisfied with that answer.. It's amazing what people will believe, if they THINK you know what you're talking about.
  9. In which case.... Current GOAL: To remain in its hiding place, found and logged by the more intrepid cachers.
  10. My apologies for not making myself clear. I was looking for a map that would show ALL National Trust managed land with an overlay to show ALL geocaches. Even the latest OS map I can buy in a shop only shows about 50% (if that) of NT property. MAGIC maps shows an awful lot more NT property, so I'm assuming it's way more up to date. Anyways, I've managed to find out what I was looking for using a combination of the above maps, but if anyone could come up with a way of showing Geocaches on top of MAGIC mapping that would be amazingly useful.
  11. Anyone know if there's a simple way of displaying a map showing National Trust owned land (MAGIC maps do that, OS ones really don't do it at all well) with Geocache locations overlaid? I'm currently doing it with Memory Map (with a cache overlay) and MAGIC side by side, but it's a bit of a pain. I'm just working on some ideas for a caching trail with our local NT Warden.
  12. The topics only here for Keehotee, but I guess he must be having a nap or something?
  13. Some great hints there, I've just filled my first page, though I've edited the odd one or two out! Expect the final published version in the next day or two. Thanks all (except currykev!)
  14. I thought it would be a useful idea, to collect useful snippets of caching advice, which I'll put together as an A4 page as a PDF which could then be printed out or read onscreen as required. I'm looking for short, useful hints and tips and ONLY on the topic of Cache Containers. (So, just about containers, not about hiding them - that's a separate topic) so something like: Confucius say "Recycling used Chinese takeaway containers is false economy, they very soon let water in" (Confucius) Please include your caching name in brackets at the end, so as to make it a single Cut and Paste operation! I'll release the finished articles under a Creative Commons licence, so everyone can use/edit them as they wish. Stands back and awaits a flood of useful hints!

I'm looking for short, useful hints and tips and ONLY on the topic of Why I hate Micros.. so something like: I hate micros because they cause a small number of cachers to moan and whinge a great deal! (Birdman-of-Liskatraz) Please include your caching name in brackets at the end, so as to make it a single Cut and Paste operation! I'll release the finished articles under a Creative Commons licence, so everyone can use/edit them as they wish. Stands back and awaits a flood of useful hints! (which I'll most probably ignore!)
  16. Hazel... I guess its a byproduct of the software they use to blur the number plates
  17. If you're placing a micro... Don't place as many pages as you can in there. Cachers will write in the first blank space they find, not necessarily in find order. Be prepared to do regular maintenance to replace the log sheet! (Bear and Ragged) But does it matter if signatures are in order or not? Just wondering...

I'm looking for short, useful hints and tips and ONLY on the topic of Logs, Logging and Log Books. so something like: I've found that using a real hardback notebook encourages cachers to leave longer, more interesting logs (Birdman-of-Liskatraz) Please include your caching name in brackets at the end, so as to make it a single Cut and Paste operation! I'll release the finished articles under a Creative Commons licence, so everyone can use/edit them as they wish. Stands back and awaits a flood of useful hints!
  19. Indeed .. if I delete my Geocaching.com cookies I can see the list, until I log out and back in again. I've grabbed the lot Stuey as a PQ, if that's of any help in the future, give me a shout.
  20. Yes, that non working one. Don't tell me you can see it, can you? All I get is this: View Bookmark List You do not have permissions to view this list. Oddly.. I could see the whole list... until I Logged in (as I was going to export the list!) at which point I got the same error message as you... and even now I've logged out I still get the same error..
  21. This none working one? Stueys Homework Bookmark list
  22. What was wrong with it Steve? That's impressive customer service! The rubber surround had dropped off...
  23. Apologies for repeating this topic.. But those nice folks at Garmin, replaced a battered old Etrex I had, that was 4 (Yes four) years out of warranty.. at - wait for it - no charge at all. I'm seriously impressed. Thank you Garmin.
  24. Not sure what you did Hazel... but is it just me or have things improved? There seem to be loads more new topics on a wide range of subjects? Well done Nutty...
