  1. Why would a shipment from Hong Kong, direct to Canada, need to pass through American Homeland security facilities? Canada has it's own division of the feds to check shipments. It just seems strange that it arrived in Canada, and then left Canada again, only to come back again. Doesn't seem terribly efficient.
  2. Any word on shipping date for these?
  3. It is a very nice looking coin. However, $9.50 US!!?? And shipping of $3.95 US for one to three coins? That's a little high. I do really like the design of the coin.... but I'll have to really give a lot of thought to spending that much on a coin.
  4. Bump Still no coins here yet. Has anyone in Canada received any yet?
  5. I hope there's no time limit on returning them if they're defective, as I haven't received my 4 that I ordered yet.
  6. Paypal'd for my 3. Can't wait to receive them, they look great!
  7. Because he could? He was a muggle owl? He forgot a pen to sign the log and had to take the cache back to his roost? thanks for the link to the owls.... when we saw the Great Gray it was the most awesome thing, . Even if we hadn't found the cache, seeing the owl on a frosty morning was worth getting wet from all the frost in the grass and dripping off the trees. Now, if we could only find an owl pellet on one of our excursions.... Being a very amateur birder, I'm partial to the owl idea myself.
  8. Thanks for the suggestions folks! Chillibusher, I wish we had more time to enjoy, but our schedule will be really tight. So, quick and easy caches will be the ones we go for, unfortunately. I'll need a bit of stress relief. I'm hoping to find a couple of regular caches, as I may have a TB or some sig items to leave. After this trip we won't have a connection to the area anymore, so I don't know when we'll next be able to spend some quality time there
  9. Hey! Don't make fun of our provincial bird - the great Horned owl. .... and besides not one of you has ended up still hunting after dark and encountered one of these beauties?? Who's making fun? I said the idea was goofy, not the bird. And yes, I have encountered a Great Gray Owl, and it wasn't after dark even. It was one of the awesome sights that we came across as a result of looking for a cache (Old Mill at Brown-Lowery) , pictures on our log. Watched it catch it's breakfast. Which is the provincial bird, the great horned, or great gray? (don't have time to look it up)
  10. So, if Landsharkz has already said she's put you down for X number, do you still want us to "officially" order through the page?
  11. We're planning a quick trip from Calgary to Cultus Lake at the end of the month. I'd really like to snag a couple of caches along the route. We're driving the TransCanada, and the Coquihalla. I've done the search on TCNDBC caches and found a couple in Golden, and one by the toll booth. But are there more that don't have the TCND identifier? Also, I'd like recommendations on quick caches in the Cultus Lake/Chilliwack area. I've bookmarked quite a few, but we won't have a lot of spare time, unfortunately. We have a busy schedule of packing up a family members home and moving affects to Calgary, so time may be tight. I've registered at the 'Wack area forum, but still waiting for approval. Any input from BC cachers would be most helpful. Thanks folks!
  12. Wow, you are fast Miles!! Seems to me that looks familiar... could it be the provincial shield? Personally, I like it. It incorporates everything, and it is applicable to all Alberta cachers.... no one will be able to say one area was favoured over another. I like the fact that it would be a shape other than round, as well. I say "good job!"
  13. OK, here's a goofy idea..... a great horned owl (or is it a great gray owl?) flying towards the mountains, carrying an ammocan in it's talons......
  14. Apparently the GAS coins shipped today, at least mine did according to the store.
  15. Holy cow! I managed to order 4, and then the coin wasn't on sale anymore! How long did it actually last? By the time I'd Paypal'd, it was up top again. Ordered and paid for 4, BTW. Nice coin.
  16. I just checked the store for my GAS coins, and they are listed as not shipped yet. I'm in Canada, so I would have thought they would ship with either the US or International Especially since I'm "almost" in the area the coins represent . But the GAS coins I'm waiting for are not US, so maybe it's a different coin that shipped?
  17. I started out with a Palm Zire 31. While it was perfectly adequate for paperless caching, and all the other things I used it for, I wanted to upgrade. The failing of the Zire 31, and the reason for the upgrade, was the screen. It was extremely difficult to read in the bright sunshine. I don't have that problem with the E2. As for software, I'm still using the same one I used on the Zire 31. Cachemate was the only one I used for a long time, and just recently I started using GSAK as a compliment to Cachemate. They do everything I need. GSAK has a bit of a learning curve, but it's not difficult. Personally, I think the Palm's are great. The battery life is superior to the IPAQ my husband had. He's upgraded to a TX and loves it. Just make sure that you put a screen protector on whatever you get, and a good case is a must.
  18. Good luck with the event! I wish that we could attend. Having read the cache page, it looks like you've put a lot of work and thought into organizing a really fun event. I hope you have a good turnout.
  19. Thanks Jazzman. I'm not a Tolkein fan, but I did recognize the language. Only because I spent a while trying to learn the language without much success. Now, I should spend more time studying Tolkein. There's a cache nearby called the Fellowship of the Cache that I'd really like to find. Guess I have to read the books first, before I can attempt it
  20. With my registered Cachemate, I currently have 950 caches, including page descriptions, hints, and 5 recent logs, on my Palm Zire 31. I've still got about 7 M of memory left, and that's taking into account the rest of the applications I have.
  21. "Níl gach uile fhánaí caillte" Hey Jazzman, is that Scots or Irish Gaelic? I'm thinking Scots, but I can't find all of the words in my dictionary. Can you translate it please? Something about everyone being lost? Is that right? Chan eil moran Gaidhlig.
  22. You can get by with just Cachemate, and hot sync cable. Run the pocket query, save on your hardrive, unzip and load into the Cachemate converter, convert the waypoints, save the converted file, and then hot sync the saved file to your Palm and Cachemate. However, I'm a convert to GSAK. It unzips, and converts, loads the waypoints into your GPS (all of them, or only ones you select) and then you can update Cachemate via a Hotsync. But you can manage with only Cachemate if you want. I did, for almost a year.
  23. If you have a Palm PDA with MobileDB, there was a free DB that contains the lat/long co-ords for major cities around the world. Do a Google for MobileDB and you should be able to find the listing containing all of the free databases. I'm not sure which cities the DB contains.
  24. Go to "Tools", then "options" On the "General" tab there is an option for you to enter your geocaching.com ID. "Method for matching placed (hidden) and found caches" You have four methods for the match to your ID I've only been using it for a week or so, so there may be others that can give you more detailed instructions. This one worked for me. Hope it helped.
  25. I have looked for one cache in a cemetery. In our city, the largest cemeteries are owned by the city, and as such have paved roadways (for the most part) and bicycle/jogging paths running through them. I was quite thankful for this cache, as it took me back to the cemetery where my mother, father, and grandparents are buried. I hadn't been to my father's gravesite since he was buried. The cache was placed near a lovely, hedge surrounded centopath in the Field of Honour. It was lovely to sit on the bench and contemplate the sacrifices of the people buried there. I went in search of the cache a week after Rememberance Day. A local school that focuses on Canada's military heritage had been there placing flags on all of the graves in the section. I think this cache was placed with much thought and respect, and I was quite grateful that it took me back there. And I guess that's the point I'm trying to make.
