  1. How do you report a fake account/user? ILNOIERUWHERUYI logged into a few of my finds today, and I found them logging finds all around the planet all today. Fake. What do I do?
  2. I also do a lot of caching with my two boys. Hotwheels are huge on their list. When we go, they like to bring a couple to drop, and possibly pick up... I do have to constantly remind them that we are not going out to raid caches. They look at all the swag (good or otherwise) as complete treasure. Busted, broken Mc trash is still hit with "Can I keep this?" I found a cache in the desert recently that was filled exclusively with 5/8" nuts. There was about a thousand in there. Ya know, if ya needed a few, thats not trash, its gold. Each one is different. Take it with a grain of salt. "Blessed are those who do not expect anything, for they shall not be dissapointed". To date, my favorite swag found was a card, with a baggie attached. The baggie had 4 'cuttings' off of automotive vacuum line and they were shrink wrapped in the baggie. The laminated card read: TIRE SEEDS and on the back it gave instructions to plant the seeds differently for different tires. Someone MADE THAT. SUPER HUGE PROPS to that person... I really loved it.
  3. Oh brother then I am in big trouble.. whats this 1K finds before hides stuff???
  4. I was real lucky lately (regarding this topic) and was able to log a find, a mere 7 minutes after publication. I was close, and just happened to be on the computer when the notification came. It was the only time I truly 'raced' to a cache. Later in the day, the CO posted another one, and I let it sit a full 24 hours before going and getting the FTF. But I'm with GrateBear, I have SEEN persons at a Cache, DNF and NOT LOG THEM. Local 'big shots' too.
  5. Hello all, I'm a caching newcomer, but have really gotten into making caches. Recently, and idea came to my head for a cache, and I placed Pill-Popping Painkiller Package GC29PRK out. The reviews were good, I received nice emails about the cache. Comments about it being "fun" and a "surprise" were exactly what I was hoping for. So, with that motivation, I placed a few more 'animated' caches out. Caches that 'do something' when you open them. A sound, a boing, a surprise. My wife asked me last night if I had ever seen a cache like that before, or did I think of it myself. Well, I had not seen anything like this before (remember, I only have 100+ caches under my belt) so in that sense, I did think of it on my own. My question is, has anyone else found type of 'action' when they opened a cache? What would it be called?? Animated? Booby-Trapped? My 'animated caches' to date are: Pill-Popping Painkiller Package GC29PRK http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...68-f7f807cfef6d Cammo Del Rio South GC2A0YE http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...77-1ff5811fa20b Time for a cache. GC2AAME http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...a7-4c8d80fe8972 Hip Hip Hooray! Nitro Blast's 50th Hide! GC2APMT http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...24-110259715b90 Each of those has a different something something in it for the finder. Much more than just a trinket, a pencil and logsheet. I'm interested if there are more ideas than the few I have come up with. I'd be happy to share details if anyone wants to know. I did recently see the youtube video of the voice activated cache, that is SERIOUS! Mine are far simpler than that!
  6. Cool, I'l activate this one I've been wondering what to do with. Thanks!
  7. I think I may have figured it out, but I want to ask about the opinions of this practice I found... While looking at a profile of a cacher, I noticed their inventory had a travel bug. I looked at that bug's map, and WHOA! It was clearly the most active map I had ever seen. This bug has been EVERYWHERE! Then, looking closer, it appears that the bug is just with the owner. Every cache, the owner logs it as a drop, then another log as a pick. So the bug gets 'anchored' for a moment, then moves on. Made an awesome map of the owners travels. What say all ye? Is this an ok thing to do? It looked cool, and I'll activate one just to do the same if it isnt considered a faux pas Thanks!
  8. Oh, I thought you were gonna show us how to turn the thing into a mini flame-thrower. Now THAT would be a TOTT! Now you've gone and done it.... the seed has been planted...
  9. Neither! Its an AC-130. And sorry for the other funny photo... the black thing is a lighter, stuck to the magnet to show how strong it is.
  10. Sorry, I didnt realize it was so cryptic! Screw in hose gives magnet something to grab. So I can use it as a magnet tool, or to pick up a magnet nano without the magnet. The "Hose" in this case is a section of spark plug wire. Was a bit softer than the vacuum line I had laying around.
  11. So I'm pretty new at Geocaching. I was at 99 finds (and 25 hides) and a new GC popped up close to me. I was short of time, but I bailed out down to the new cache: GC2888T Bark is worse than bite. I spent way too long, about an hour, and did not find it. Not only did I not find it, I did not see anyone else in my hour there. I then had my heart set on a FTF for Cache #100. I was forced to leave with a DNF. I shared my thoughts in the post, and a day later, PRESTO!: GC28AE7 "Orr,What!"\I.H.O."Nitro-Blast"100thTreasureFound! popped in my mailbox! Like a firman going to a fire, I ran out of the house with NO TOOLS and nothing to assist other than my GPS. I found the location, scoured the area, then figured I had to return with a tool of the trade that I did not yet have. So, 30 seconds in a frantic rush, I now have my first home made TOTT that I'll keep with me. Items needed: Flexible hose (vacuum line, spark plug wire, etc) Wood flat head screw Magnets With my TOTT, I was successful in making my first milestone cache #100 a FTF. THANK YOU U_2_U! The handy TOTT stores easy in my cachin-bag, and I cant break it like the "antenna" type. Simple enough, but I didnt know how valuable they are until recently! On to the NEXT HUNDRED! (thanks for the ttot correction... I told ya I was new!)
  12. Heres my version: I like these, and I always stick a pencil in them too! Stupid cheap, easy to replicate, and handy to have a few in yer bag to drop at a moments opportunity.
  13. Here is the latest kick I've been on, these mini's made from bottle tops. Great for urban cachin'
  14. I personally have found the best fun to be in trading up. I do love to leave something neato, not just another happy meal toy. I did however just start a new cache last night with the exact stuff you are talking about, junk. I went to my kids dentist, and grabbed a handful of the 'goodies' they give good little kids. Its all pure 'crapola' but kids love it. With a sealed cache, full of 'clean' toys, it should be ok for a bit. Just like the holidays, its better to give than receive when caching. Recieving fun stuff is awesome however (got a $5 Starbucks AND $5 JambaJuce cards in one recently!)
  15. The replies are great.. Cant improve on those other than sometimes it helps to have another 'cacher with you helping you out. To practice, take your GPS to a open field and make a waypoint and leave an object. Walk 50 ft away, and walking a straight line NOT going directly to your item watch the arrow. Like mentioned, at the point your arrow 'goes 90' to the left or right it will be very accurate. Remember to keep the GPS steady, with your body. DONT use it like a flashlight.
  16. Ok, I need some help here please... What is the trick to getting a good cooridinates when making a Geocache? Some of my recent drops have had coords off enough to have 'cachers make comment. Garmin ETrex Legend. I usually let it sit on the ground for a couple of minutes before making a waypoint. Any other tips?
  17. I like the old school street pilot III, its color, waterproof, and fits my needs. BUT.... the darn thing is near impossible to see in direct sunlight. The Garmin Street Pilot (earlier version) with Monochrome display is what I'm looking for... Anyone??
