  1. Hey, as a relatively NEW geocacher, when I started this thread, all I wanted to do was share the story of my recent achievement. I was hoping people would share some stories about, "I can remember my first FTF, too". Stuff like that. All I've gotten was 60+ posts about the ETHICS of geocaching, and quite frankly, I feel like I've been beaten up enough.
  2. I love it when someone gets their 1st FTF and they want to pound their chest, and tell all the Consistent FTFers that they better watch out there is a new FTFer in town................ brother talk is cheap don't talk about just do it, my experience is it's the ones that start POPPING OFF like that , that wind up fizzling out after a few FTFs. Scubasonic Yeah, I now see that you have 495 of them. So obviously you're better than me and to you I'm puke. Wow dude you're so awesome. Someday I want to be like you. Maybe someday when I get 495 FTF's I too will find a way to belittle new geocachers who are more or less just starting out and just now really starting to enjoy this hobby.. Hmm. I didn't think there was anything wrong with people wanting to show their PRIDE in their recent accomplishment/ milestone achievement. I've been at this a few months now, and I've already met some pretty cool people on the trails. But one thing I've learned for sure, is that there sure are a lot of people on these forums that just love plucking away at their keyboard that sure come off as some real d*cks! Am I mistaken or is this what geocachers are really like?
  3. according to Groundspeak's search engine, there are 81 of them. 5 pages of Johhny Cache caches 81, Wow! But I cant say Im really surprised.
  4. There is a Cache River and Wildlife Refuge in Illinois.
  5. Not a city called Cache, but Kingsland, Arkansas, the birthplace of Johnny Cash, is begging for a cache called "Johnny Cache", that is if there isn't already a cache with that name. (there probably is)
  6. Im assuming Cache Valley is in Cache County.
  7. Sorry if it offends. I've seen the terms "FTF Hound", "FTF Hunter", "FTF Whore" all being thrown around. The "whore" part of it obviously has nothing to do with it's literal meaning. I guess I prefer using the term "FTF Whore". On every internet forum, you'll occasionally run into people who post A LOT. Some of these people use their post count as a status symbol and to belittle a person with a lower post count. This is an example: "Hey, I've been registered on this forum for 4 years, and I'm not about to let some dweeb with 10 posts who registered a week ago tell me what I can and can't do!" If you've spent any significant amount of time an any forum, I know you've seen it. There are people who thoroughly believe in this status thing, and often you'll see people start posting a lot to, not necessarily post just for the sake of posting, but posting to build their post count "forum status" I call these people Post Whores. I can't see any reason why (other than it may offend) the term can't be carried over to label someone as FTF Whore.
  8. I'm "HeliDood" because I like to play with my RC Helicopters. Thats my main hobby, the one that consumes most of my money and a lot of my time. The word "Dood" is at the end of it, because in the helicopter community, Im known simply as "Dood" ( Means the same as dude) Dood also means death in the Dutch language. Here is one of my helicopters. This machine cost me about $3000 to get set up and airborne.
  9. I like where you're head is at! If thats a compliment, thanks. I'm slowly getting the idea that the only people who will get upset over a delayed FTF log are FTF whores themselves. You want to talk about rude? Maybe being a FTF whore is rude. Always snagging the new caches in the area before casual cachers even have a chance.. Ever think about that?
  10. Also, this was my FIRST FTF, so it was special to me. Had it been my 20th or 30th FTF, it would have been no big deal, and naturally I would have wanted to log it immediately. In this area, (probably not unlike other areas) there are 2 or 3 people who seem to be the FTF whores. They get the FTF's on EVERYTHING, so Ive noticed. My intention of sitting on a log for half a day, I wanted to serve just one purpose, (not to be rude), but let the 3 FTF whores know that theres a new kid in town.
  11. So someone correct me if I'm wrong: but there is NO directive that says I have to log ANY of my caches online at all if I don't want to. It shouldnt matter if it's a FTF or not, right? I've already found log books that have 20+ entries, but when I myself went to log it online, I saw maybe 15 or 16 online entries.
  12. Alright Alright... If 2 of you say its rude to sit on a log, then it must be rude. It's been logged. 1 hour and 19 minutes after the find.
  13. Seriously? Since the temperature is below zero and with snow on the ground there arent a lot of people out caching. By reading forum posts, I was under the impression that its somewhat a common practice for FTF'ers to sit on their log for a half day or so. Supposedly it gets people out caching (which sort of makes sense) I was just going to wait until like tomorrow morning or afternoon, thats all. Let me gloat a little bit
  14. Thanks Briansnat. Thats good to know.
  15. (My first First to Find) FINALLY!! After two months geocaching, 28 finds and a few failed attempts at the elusive FTF, I finally got one of my own. Yes its a big deal! And YES it is worthy of it's own thread. Just remember the time when all of you scored your first FTF. I'm betting it was a big deal for you too. I'm just going to gloat for a while. This feels pretty good. And will I sit on the log for a little while until at least 2nd to Find logs his entry? You betcha!! ...and I promise I won't become a FTF-whore. I only want to be a casual cacher. I've got far too many other hobbies (one of them is playing with my helicopters) I just needed to get this first one out of the way.
  16. Yes, we did take note of that, LOL. Here's another fun fact....we understand you met Trekkin's brother Timberline Echoes the other day on the trail. And all three could be tough finds depending on the snow depths, although we made them much easier for the next seekers for awhile! And here's ANOTHER fun fact: When I went out to those 3 caches to place the "puzzle pieces", I got more than half way to one of the caches before I realised I forgot my GPS at home, sitting on the coffee table. Fortunately, I had your foot prints to follow to get me to my own caches. Thanks for that. I indeed met Timberline Echoes. Mr and Mrs Echoes gave me a lift a few miles down the road to retrieve a shovel after my truck found some deeper than expected soft snow. Small world.
  17. I'll figure something out one way or another. My plan was to initially publish it as a mystery, and explain the provisions that were awarded to the FTF of the last cache. Everyone had an equal opportunity at the last cache hide, so based on the provisions of THIS hide... They had their chance but they missed out. After 24 hours, the cache would be changed from a Mystery to a Traditional. Next week when this all plays out, I'll update this thread.
  18. I'm not kidding. There IS a Micro on that island. It's one of two caches out there. I've submitted the listing, but I've chosen not to activate it until we get some fresh snow to cover my tracks. The one you might be seeing, (the not a micro) is indeed not a micro. Thats part of a puzzle/ mystery cache. Now here's a It's a Small World Fun Fact of the Day: A week ago today, Trekkin' and Birdin', who have replied to this thread, retrieved the 3 prerequisite caches needed to solve the puzzle cache. Unfortunately for Trekkin' and Birdin', a week ago today those three caches were not yet part of the puzzle/ mystery. (that means they need to get them again) I'm sure Trekkin' and Birdin' can attest that 2 of those 3 caches are not very winter-friendly at all!
  19. LAME THREAD WARNING Im brand new to this forum, and relatively new to geocaching (on this account anyways) I used to have an account back in like '05 that is long lost (as was as casual a geocacher as geocachers come) I've only got like 28 finds as of now (this will change a lot once the weather is nice) but... whenever I have found a cache, I like to look through the whole log book. A lot of you guys have some pretty clever and memorable names.. I've been looking through these forums and I'm seeing A LOT of familiar names! It's astonishing considering how few caches I've found to date. I mean, what are the odds? The craziest part is, is that a lot of these names I'm seeing, are from neighbouring states or several states away. Some of you guys really get around, and to me that makes the world feel a whole lot smaller. I just think thats really cool. /End Lame thread
  20. The owner made it viewable to subscribers only. I don't have a premium membership. What did I miss?
  21. I recently set one out with some obsolete Iraqi currency with Saddam Hussein's mug on the front. How cool is that?
  22. I'm glad you brought this up, as I just awarded an EXCLUSIVE ATTEMPT AT A FTF to a cacher a few days ago. Did you just happen to find my listing or something? I'm only a 28 finder, so I won't be surprised if someone "calls me out" for breakin' da rules. ----- I own 4 caches. As I published #4, I listed right on the cache listing, "FTF gets an exclusive attempt at a FTF on a future cache hide of mine" The #5 listing is already hidden & posted, is just not activated (Im waiting for the snow to cover my footprints) What I've done with #5: It will be posted as a Mystery Cache, (with GZ posted as a hidden waypoint) It will be a regular, published listing BUT, only one person will have the coordinates for a total of 24 hours. Once those 24 hours are up, the coordinates will be disclosed to the public and it's fair game. Because it's a mystery cache, I can publish the listing and not have to worry about a continuity error in the publish date and the FTF date. I didn't see anything in the the rules saying I couldnt do this, I've found nothing that states it being unethical. The EXCLUSIVE ATTEMPT was part of his FTF reward, as a way to motivate people to get out and do some winter caching in sub-zero tempedratures . Once I email him the coord's, it's up to him if he wants to grab it.
