  1. Well, I am a bit surprised at this. Many people have read this and only 2 have left a message. I am abandoning this idea of a Leap Frog CITO cache. I did not realize this does not mean much to people. Again: "Your wrong. Nothing in the Guideline say it's not allowed. This is the only sentence that talks about traveling caches. Read below. "Therefore, caches that have the goal to move (“traveling caches”), or temporary caches (caches hidden for less than 3 months or for events) most likely will not be published". Also: "Exceptions may sometimes be made, depending on the nature of a cache. If you have a novel type of cache that “pushes the envelope” to some degree. I never thought so many people would abandon this kind if idea, specially CITO people. Oh Well... ~Steve
  2. I am not able to devote time into an organized event.
  3. Your wrong. Nothing in the Guideline say it's not allowed. Read below. "Therefore, caches that have the goal to move (“traveling caches”), or temporary caches (caches hidden for less than 3 months or for events) most likely will not be published". Also: "Exceptions may sometimes be made, depending on the nature of a cache. If you have a novel type of cache that “pushes the envelope” to some degree, then it is best to contact your local reviewer and/or Groundspeak before placing and reporting it on the Geocaching.com web site. The guidelines should address most situations, but Groundspeak administrators and reviewers are always interested in new ideas. If the majority believes that it should be published, then Groundspeak administrators and volunteers may review the submission and your cache may be unarchived. Many roads don't have a place to pull off safely and that would be silly to stop on. I think commonsense would allow one not stop.
  4. I have an idea for CITO cache but it’s having a hard time being passed by the reviewers. This cache I am calling “Leap Frog”. It’s a standard trinket cache and it has a designated road and distance to Leap on. You place it by a littered area and when that area has been cleaned up a cacher moves it to a new location on the road and logs in the new coordinates and the process starts all over again. This type of cache is used in those places you cannot hold a CITO event safely. Please leave a comments if you think this is a good idea or not. Thanks Steve
  5. Please read topic "Leap Frog Trash Cache"
  6. Thanks for the idea. I am in discussion with the local admin at this moment on an idea that will help clean up this road for 10 miles. I am pushing the boundary of the rules but I have confidence that he will accept this novel type of cache. I will post more about this idea soon and hopefully will be approved. Thanks Steve
  7. Hi folks, I just wanted to let you know that my cache M-249 (GCHHRK) when it started January of 2004 was an absolute Pig Pen. All kind of trash and lots of it . Over the years after I put the Signal image on the website people have been helping clean this location up further and further up and down the street . Unfortunately over time, short and long, it keeps being popularized by garbage . This location has never been a CITO event but it sure is a long term unofficial event . What does all this mean? I would like to thank the Cache In Trash Out folks, Groundspeak & Jeep for having CITO be apart of Geo-Caching and I wish you had awards & praises for the good deeds of cachers who take time to clean up our world just because they want to, and they don't need an event to pick up someone else's garbage. Don't get me wrong, the events are Great! It's just wonderful that people will clean up just because they want to. Thank You All ~Steve
  8. Agreed! Also, the Auto routing is a bonus and works well.
  9. On another note… while I think I am awake. As humans we spend $$$$$ on stuff we don’t really need. As JohnnyVegas will agree - Fireworks – people buy fireworks at ungodly amounts of $$$ so they can enjoy all the bright lights, colors, shapes, KaBoom’s, Flashes and just plan noise. A Secret – as a Pyrotechnician we enjoy it more because we are closer to DANGER, KaBoom’s, Flashes, Colors, Bright Lights and pure Adrenalin Rush of Low Breaks, Mortars blowing up, Hot Re-Loading of a Manual Show’s – err hum - Oops sorry started to get carried away… I got excited for a second…. Anyway – point is we buy stuff to enjoy no mater how useless it might be to someone else. I like the color screen on the 60CS; it works great in direct sun light or not. No hand held Magellan can match the color screen resolution as of this date 7/13/04. Does it have a bunch of options that I might use once, you bet, but I enjoy it never the less and wanted to pay $400 for it because it had the added extra stuff I wanted to use. Does a color screen make using a GPS better? To some people that might be true. Visually color can make the world of difference to many people. If fireworks were black and white 95% of the world population would not like to watch them. So, at this point I have 3 GPS’s that work really well for what I would like to do with them. Now I am thinking about getting a PDA with the built in GPS, Compass & Mapping program to work with it. Do I need it –NO- in fact my wife will cut me off for a year if I get it, but I am still thinking about it. Will I buy it? I am not stupid! I like not being cut off!! To sum this up… you need to decide what you want in a GPS and not one unit will have everything you want or not want in it; you pick what will be the best for you.
  10. One eye open and comments to make. Face it, all the extra stuff on any GPS unit is just that! Extra stuff to use. You only need a display with Lat Long, Bearing, altitude, heading & a little memory to enter data manually. Then you carry a map & compass to do the rest. EVERY thing else is just stuff people would like to have in a GPS to make their life easier in some way. The 60CS is by far a better unit. Save some cash by one use it for 5 days send it back and try another. Do this until you are satisfied with what ever unit you like for the way you want it to be. If you can rent them then try that, sure this takes a while to do but in the end you won’t be wondering if you should have bought the other one that could wash your hands instead of clipping your fingernails. Know what I mean? In the end I think the Garmin will be cheaper after everything is bought including the extras that you might want. Also will depend on what discounts you might find. I prefer the buttons on the bottom and not the top. I have 3 Garmin’s, III, V and the 60CS. The III works great for what I need it to do, the V and 60CS have the extra stuff I want to play with just because I am a Man and I like all the extra fun things you can do with them. Think about all the options and what will work for you. Well my comments and $1 now days might get you a cup of Java. Now go find a Cache!!
  11. I think this topic can be closed now.

    New Ideas ? Maybe

My Suggestion and $1 might get you a cup of coffee now days. I would like to be able to do a picky search for a road trip with out having to delete or pick one by one cache on the route. For instance. 1) From Orange County to Las Vegas. I would pick a start point in Orange County and pick a ending location, LV in this case. Then I would select a distance off the main highway like 1000 feet. Also have the choice what type of caches to find along my route. This would save a great deal of time from deleting the caches you don’t want in your data base on the PC or the GPS. This will also save memory used up in the GPS. I might be taking a road trip to Niagara Falls in the next 4 months. I will only be on major highways and will only want to stop for caches that are 500 feet or less of the road I am traveling on. Also would only like the caches that are 2/2 or less in difficulty. To have choices to pick from would make caching a more enjoyable time from the very beginning. On with the Ideas: 2) When you click on the Geocaching Map that shows the Caches and you pick Identify you get a list of cache names. It would be nice at that point to retrieve the waypoint datum instead of clicking on one cache and get one way point. That takes a lot time to pick waypoints. These are only rough ideas and can be refined with more detailed information.
  13. Thanks guys for the offers. I did receive an address from a Cacher in NZ. Bug in the mail... Thanks.
  14. I have a TB that needs a ride to Zew Zealand from Orange County, Ca. Anyone going that way?
  15. I have a TB that needs a ride to NewZealand from Orange County CA. Can someone help out . How about mail? Please e-mail me if you can help. Thanks SCTH
  16. Huh, I don't know what to tell you. I have had no problems with it at all. I guess you could call them and ask about it. ~Steve
  17. I have read the questions about the 60CS not working with USB and some software. Expert GPS with the new BETA now works with USB. So far it seams to be working great. www.expertgps.com/beta.asp
  18. I have been looking for the MapSource City Select v5 all over and the cheapest I found so far is $109. Anyone have a better source for this CD? If anyone is interested. I found the 60cs for $409. www.gpsonsale.com ~Steve scth@cox.net
  19. I will half to agree with the rest. The GPS-V is one of the best! I have one but I still use my GPS-III, it works great also.
