I see alot of events it the magic valley twin falls area as well as boise and i was wondering why i never see events for eastern Idaho like the Idaho Falls, Pocatello areas or if there isnt any simply because it is winter and i was also wondering if anyone wanted to possibly help me organize an event in this area (Im in Idaho Falls)

I have a dakota 10 and it is a great little unit, it is easy to use and is really small fits easily in a jacket pocket
-
im going to go slightly off track and recommend the Dakota Series from Garmin you get a touch screen interface and it it very easy to use and simple to navigate thru all the menus and stuff and it can be found fairly inexpensive bundled with garmins topo software as well as a silicone protective case and a few other things

Alright, what did you get for Christmas?
pyro07 replied to JJTally's topic in General geocaching topics
got it 2 days early but a Dakota 10 with the Topo software bundle paperless caching does indeed rock and I also got some tools for when the truck decides to break down up in the hills and my girlfreind made me a nice fuzzy blanket for when i decide to be an idiot and go out caching in -20 temps and come home frozen -
I got a Dakota 10 for christmas and am very happy with it it is inexpensive and very easy to use

i tried some rayovac alkalines and i put them in on tues when i got my reciever and they finally died today i had thee unit on for most of the day every day since then i even left it on overnight one night so i am happy with them but i will probably invest in some rechargeables eventually but the price was right on the rayovacs 6 dollars for 8 of them at wally world
-
ok cause i would probably end up throwin the batteries on the charger as soon as a get home dead or not
-
that and i think its NiMH that have a memory cause i tend to recharge things when they arent totally dead yet so on some battery types it remembers that and the chrage doent last long
-
not all lithiums will explode look at the battery in you cell phone i would bet that is a Lithium Polymer or Lithium Ion battery and it obviously hasnt exploded
-
ok i just had a thought if i got some rechargables would they charge when the unit is hooked up to my pc just a curious thought
-
hmm are lithiums rechargeable cause im not a huge fan of NiMH
-
i have a dakota 10 but im on a tight budget and lithiums are a bit expensive would regular alkaline suffice i just got the unit and its my first one
-
what knid batteries do you recomend for a GPSr
-
just a thought from my crazy troubleshooting mind i wonder if you could find and o-ring that would fit in the lid of the film canisters, pill bottles. etc that when u close them it seals the inside of the container, i could see it being more feasible on a pill bottle over film canister but hey is just a thought =

i carry both it just depends on the conditions ive had ink freeze on me before and thats when i used the pencil, but if i can i will usually use pen
-
darn if u were around idaho falls you would be welcome to join me

yeah the dakota felt small in my hands (im a big guy 6'1 250) it also didnt have much of a durable feel to me and they touch screen seemed a little slow to respond to me when i would select an option or zoom in or out on the basemap i also found myself having to touch a button more than once to get it to go so im currently leaning toward the CO i found the 400t on sams clubs website for 330 NEW is this a good deal
-
can u kind of describe to me how it felt like was it kinda i guess clicky or smooth and how much tension did it have
-
im just worried i wont like the little wheel it uses to go through the screen and navigate on the colorado i got to mess with a dakota today and the touch screen didnt feel very durable to me but i like the fact that i get topo maps with the dakota
-
ok i read some reviews on the 300 and they said that it wasnt all that great for caching and ive narrowed it down between the dakota 10 and colorado 300

i found a deal one some refurbished Garmin colorados first is a NEW colorado 300 next is a refurbed 400t or the dakota 10 i was wondering what would be better for geocaching and which is most simple to use the colorados are about the same price as the dakota 10 with topo software, what would be the best bang for my buck and most simple and best all around unit
