  1. So far the only interaction with law enforcement while caching was when I called them. Was out finding a cache that is on an old (long unused) bombing range when I stumbled across something that looked a little suspicious on my walk back to the truck. For the record I was NOT the person who dug around it, I'm not that stupid. All I did was mark the coordinates and take a less direct trip back to the truck and my cell phone. The first one to respond didn't know about geocaching so I got to explain what I was doing out in the desert but the second one to arrive knew about it and discussed a few of the nearby caches with us before we left.
  2. A couple of months ago my wife and I were trying to figure out the best way to get to a cache we wanted to find so we punched in the coordinates into our car's GPS. It told us we needed to drive 5 hours south to the Mexico border, turn around and drive 5 hours back then navigating to the cache (or at least within a nice walking distance). I still have a picture of it around here somewhere.
  3. I logged one a few weeks ago at the gym, unfortunately the cacher was not with their vehicle but I did wander through the gym wondering who they were.
  4. I have a quick question as to what the geocaching etiquette is on TB's. Recently we released 4 TBs in a small family race (each of our 3 boys and I each got a TB and they are being tracked on a large map we have here at the house) and one of them was picked up and has not moved on (just under a month ago). Personally I'm not too concerned yet as it hasn't been that long but my wife is starting to worry about the poor little bug lost and alone in the wilderness. So here's my questions: 1: At what point should a TB be listed as 'missing'? 2: How long would you recommend waiting before you email someone about a TB they've been holding? 3: How long should you wait before releasing a clone tag?
  5. I carry a clip board with me and say that I am doing land title work, surveying, verifying property lines, etc.
  6. Depends on where we're caching, if I'm out in the middle of nowhere its a pair of Smokin Pants (http://www.smokinproducts.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=3) as they have taken everything I've thrown at them so far and an old long sleeve shirt. If I'm urban caching its tan cargo pants with a button down shirt and a clipboard. No one questions you when you have a clipboard.
  7. Yes I'll likely replace this with a micro nearby and make the ammo can a new cache elsewhere.
  8. My wife and I discussed that but we couldn't find a 'thanks for cleaning the crap out of my cache' or a 'cache in crap out' coin.
  9. I just learned that my first (and currently only...yes I've been slacking) cache hide was muggled (isn't this a right of passage or something). A fellow cacher went out today and found the cache, intact and with everything inside...including the s*** someone took in it. They then removed the cache, took it home, and started cleaning it up. Well I just got off the phone with this person and they not only cleaned up the cache (inside and out) but they offered to replace it with fresh trade items or hold it for me. Now I've met MANY awesome people while geocaching but to me this cacher has gone above and beyond and I'd like to thank them in a special way...but I can't think of how. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  10. My wife just emailed me the article and I came over here to see if it was posted or not. Local Newspaper Story I guess there's one cache we won't be finding any time soon.
  11. 550 Cord Bracelets: They are cheap, don't take long to make, useful, and (somewhat) stylish. What you need: 10 Feet of cord per bracelet. It is sold in various lengths but cheapest if you buy it by the 1,000 ft spool. 550 Cord: http://www.supplycaptain.com/index.cfm?fus...;category_ID=19 Side Release Buckle (Not necessary but I use them and think they give the bracelet a more 'professional' look. Again the prices vary depending on how many you buy. http://cdwplus.com/singleSRB.html I have accumulated quite a selection of both over time but if you buy 100 buckles ($30) and 1,000 Ft of 550 cord ($48) your price per bracelet comes to under $1 each even with shipping included. These take a little practice to get down but after you make a few your brain gets used to the repitition and you can make them while watching tv, riding in the car, etc. And finally, here is a pretty good set of instructions on how to make these. http://www.raems.com/550_cord_bracelet.pdf
