  1. Edit - ah to hell with it. I'll just print cache pages and enter the coords manually. Forget I mentioned anything.
  2. On iOS8 Beta 1, all statistics show properly for me in Safari except the maps. Perhaps Apple is fixing things on their end of the equation.
  3. Loving the new update. Particularly that "Open in External Map" no longer kicks one out to Safari, but instead pops it over to Apple Maps. This means I can invoke driving directions to the cache on my iPhone. Very, very handy. I do have one request though, and that would be to enable us to send the Additional / Child Waypoints to the External Map as well. This way I can route to the Parking or Trailhead in Apple Maps. This would have come in very handy this past weekend on the BT Hike Event, as I had one heck of a time getting the information to route to the "End Parking" 36km away from the start point.
  4. Officially they do not want any caches on their land (which is 12% of the trail or so) and no grandfathering. That is their right to ask. I stopped renewing my BT membership when this policy came out last year, and when they called to ask me why I didn't renew my 20+ year membership, I told them this is why. Is there anything more that can be done? I don't have a membership so can't cancel one. Well, on the plus side it's only 12% of the trail. It's a shame. Feels like a reflex reaction. Perhaps they don't see all the positive aspects including making more people aware of the BTC's efforts and our beautiful geography, by playing outdoors in a low-impact, family-friendly activity. Before geocaching I knew almost nothing about the BT since I had never hiked. I was one of the people involved in several meetings with the BTC leadership. They seemed to have a good grasp of the concept and things appeared to be going well at the time, but I also got the impression they were looking for a scapegoat for their problems in the Caledon section with landowners, who were also upset that "geocachers did not walk single file on roadway sections". It is unfortunate that they adopted the Ontario Parks model instead of the Parks Canada model. As for what can be done, best is to find out exactly who the landowner is and get permission from them, ignoring the BTC for land they do not own or manage. A reminder that "routing the trail" does not count as land management ... It is typically defined as "who is paying the property tax".
  5. Has something changed over the weekend? Not fully sure, but in Mac OS X 10.9.2 + Safari 7.0.2, everything is the Stats page is now showing fully and correctly. Fixed? By whom? Google? Groundspeak? Apple? In any case, good to go. Maps are back for me but Finds per Month, Cumulative Finds per Month, Cache Types I've Found, Container Types I've Found and Distance to Finds are not displaying. This is on Mac OSX 10.9.2, Safari 7.0.2 (9357.74.9). On my iOS 7.1 devices still total failure here.

  7. Dr Moro, So you are saying the problem is in the Mac OS/iOS NOT Safari settings. I notice that Firefox seems to display things correctly. From all the info here, Safari with either Mac OS X 10 Mavericks or iOS 7, has problems showing the proper Stats page. Seems they do not go well with Google Charts. GO figure... Most others environments than that, seems to be OK, I guess. Just have to wait until BIG rivals Apple and Google somehow make it better for the consumers like us. On Mac: Safari is a problem on OS/X Mavericks but Firefox and Chrome work properly. On iPhone/iPad, running iOS7 : Safari is a problem, and other browsers that use Safari to render are a problem as well (which is why Chrome does not work on iOS). Alternates that render remotely like Opera Mini do work, but Groundspeak blocks the Opera Proxy server so we can't use that workaround either.
  8. Just an FYI this intentional blocking also has the side effect of taking out some smartphone browsers that feature data compression, like Opera Mini. Chrome recently added this so watch you don't inadvertently block Chrome users on Android and iOS devices. Problem is most noticeable when trying to view a cache page in Opera Mini for example.
  9. Are you using a Mac, or an iPhone/iPad by chance? There is a problem with Statistics and Safari.
  10. Quick update - iOS 7.1 (as of beta 5) does not correct the problem.
  11. I'm even less interested in tolerating this kind of behavior from people that aren't involved. You're arguing that it's OK for them to be angry as long as they don't know they're angry with you. I claim that it's not OK for them to be angry to begin with, so we shouldn't allow them to bully us into acting in secret or not acting at all. No, I am saying attack the idea not the person. Frankly there are people who will attack others NA logs regardless of the wording because of who posted it. Making it anonymous to third parties takes that drama out, but yes could empower the troll behind the keyboard just the same. What I said is that I am unlikely to ever post a NA log again, under he current system, based on my previous experiences around here. I will mention things in my found it or would not find it log and leave it at that.
  12. So let's look at what makes these moments awkward. One is that the CO's a jerk and thinks poorly of someone that files a legitimate request for a cache to be archived when it has a serious problem. As I say, I'm against changing the mechanism in a manner that suggests such behavior by a CO is something we should accept as normal. The other reason such a moment might be awkward is because the archive request was marginal, unclear, or even wrong. I want people filing archive requests to worry about this kind of awkward moment so that they are sure they only report the facts they actually have and avoid lapsing into opinions, such as the worth of the CO and his ability to maintain caches, for example. Indeed, I want someone filing an archive request to imagine they're standing face to face with the owner so they think about how their log is going to be received. Above all, when I meet the CO in real life, I want us to be able to have a rational discussion about the archive request. If we can't -- if it's awkward -- something's already wrong with our interaction that isn't fixed by him not knowing who I am. Often the problem is not between the CO and the person filing the NA. I've seen (and been targeted by) third parties over NA logs. I rarely post a NA these days as there are a few local players who will jump all over me as "the cache police" for pointing out that the cache is on private property or not maintained etc. Heck even make it Anonymous to everyone but the CO and the Reviewers and it would be better. Right now posting a NA in my area is certainly not worth it.
  13. Not sure where this is in the queue, but I like it just for the load it takes off the reviewers. I have an annual event with timed cache releases and currently one reviewer hangs out and publishes the caches at the "launch time". This would eliminate the need, so that reviewer could, say, attend the event instead 😊. One thing though, the listing should be LOCKED between the time the reviewer gives it the thumbs up and the time it is published so there are no shenanigans.
  14. The GPSMAP 541 appears to be a marine unit (Chartplotter). It is compatible with BlueChart / G2 / Vision type maps, and the web page provides no indication that it is compatible with any non BlueChart / G2 / Vision type maps. Ibycus Topo is most definitely NOT a BlueChart / G2 / Vision type map. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure that the OP is not going to get *any* topo map products, including Garmin's own Topo Canada to work on the GPSMAP 541.
  15. I think I have my answer for the maps. Went through a bunch of browsers, specifically using the ones that render on remote servers instead of the built in iOS Safari engine that Chrome has to use on the iPad. According to Puffin, the maps on the statistics page use Adobe Flash so they will never work on iOS unless Groundspeak changes technology here, which I am not expecting to happen at all. So a workaround would be to use Puffin or Skyfire on iOS and make sure you are not blocking Flash under a Safari or Chrome on Mac OS X.
  16. Yep, Maps are also gone using Mac OS X 10.9.1 + Safari 7.0.1 (9537.73.11) w/Extension or not... Further testing - while it does not work in Chrome on my iPad (or iPhone), it DOES work in Chrome on my MacBook OS X 10.9.1 + Chrome 31.0.1650.63 Also works fine on my office computer Windows 7 SP1 with Internet Explorer 11 This is interesting. The statistics bars WORK on iPad Mini with Opera Mini, but the maps don't appear

Guess Google has it out for Mac users. Too bad Groundspeak's gonna take the hit on this one. Since I'm not planning to switch to Android (or back to Windows) any time soon, I will source a different method of keeping my stats.
  18. Maps have disappeared now for me too. Chrome on iPad Mini Retina iOS 7.0.4. Also occurs in Safari and Team Outlander is sitting here beside me with the same problem. Guess it's back to FindStatGen for me.
  19. Well, a Geocaching.com is your website so you technically could fix it, but that would mean changing your site to use something other than Google Charts. You have made a business decision that the cost of the fix is greater than the cost of not fixing it. For the other iPad owners in this thread I can confirm the problem occurs on my iPad Mini Retina when using Safari, and the problem is corrected when I download and install Chrome on the Mini.
  20. I have the same problem, and I've also noticed that I cannot view "Finds per month", "Cumulative Finds per month", or "Distance to finds" on my profile. I just get the blue "?" icon and that information is not shown to me. Browser: Safari on OS/X Mavericks.
  21. I've posted 0.83 to the Trails Project website now ( http://trailmaps.torontogeocaching.com ) I've changed the night colour scheme so trails don't look like creeks anymore at night, and introduced a "Regional Trail" type that emphasizes major trails like the Bruce or Trans Canada Trail. We also have a Facebook page for the Project now as well, which I update from time to time. https://www.facebook.com/ontariotrailsproject Here's what changed: Added - Simcoe County Trails - Tottenham - northernpenguin Added - Lowville Park Trails - Lowville - northernpenguin Added - (more) Elgin Trail - St. Thomas - fbax, cache4pat Added - Frost Centre - Dorset - northernpenguin Added - Wolf Lake / Laura Lake Canoe Route (Temagami) - Sudbury - northernpenguin Added - Taquanyah Conservation Area - Cayuga - Kreamer&BearsKrew Added - Trans Canada Trail - Hastings - Murfster Added - Granite Ridge Trail (Killarney PP) - Killarney - Arnie and Elly Weisbrot Added - George Island Trail - Killarney - Arnie and Elly Weisbrot Added - Fingal Wildlife Management Area - St. Thomas - cache4pat Added - Porter Road Loop, Centre Loop - Ganaraska Forest - Stabeez Added - Ganaraska Forest Trails - Ganaraska Forest - capers4,Stabeez Added - Gamiing Nature Centre - Lindsay - Stabeez, murfster Added - Hidden Valley Trails - Kitchener - Electroqted Added - Cypress Lake / Georgian Bay Trail - Tobermory - Kreamer&BearsKrew Added - Wildflower Woods - Oakville - Avernar Added - Nordheimer Ravine Trail - Toronto - Chris-Mouse Added - Avon Trail - Wellesley - fbax Added - ATV Tracks - Welland - Hellnite Added - Greenwood Conservation Area - Ajax - Barb Murray Added - Side Trail near GEST - Georgetown - res2100 Added - Crown Land Woodlot - Petersburg - Randall Banning Added - Marshall Memorial Forest (more trails) - Dunnville - all hat Added - Long Sault CA (small trail) - Clarington - murfster Added - Avon Trail (portions) - Wellesley - fbax Added - Fleetwood Creek CA - Pontypool - Steve Scadding Added - Joeperry Lake Access - Bon Echo PP - Fizbot Added - Devil's Trail - Gravenhearst - Husky Patrol Added - Recollet Falls Trail - French River PP - Hal Added - Loudon Peatland Trail - Mashkinonje PP - Hal Added - Laura Secord Trail - Niagara - Nozzletime Added - Sauers Mountain Cross Trail - Killaloe - Starkiller Added - Lambton Shores Heritage Forest - Port Franks - Brook22 Added - Bent Rim Trail / Hilton Falls C.A. - Milton - randall banning Added - Pigeon River Headwaters C.A. - Kawartha Lakes - Dave Stabler Added - Sheffield C.A. - Kaladar - Paul'n'Susan Added - Virgil Nature Trail - Niagara - Hellnite Added - New Bridge ATV Trail - French River - Hellnite Added - Several ATV Trails - French River - Hellnite Added - Path of the Paddle - Quetico Provincial Park - Trans Canada Trail Added - The Little Falls (Atikokan River) - Atikokan - Trans Canada Trail Added - City of Thunder Bay Trail - Thunder Bay - Trans Canada Trail Updated - Walden Community Pathway - Sudbury - Trans Canada Trail Updated - Trafalgar Trail - Georgetown - res2100 Updated - Upper Canada Heritage Trail - Niagara-On-The-Lake - Hellnite Removed - Invalid Vance Tract Trails - Guelph - northernpenguin Updated - Bruce Trail Sydenham Section - Meaford - northernpenguin
  22. I'm 150km from the Bayfield one and 246km from L&A. I guess I live to close to event rich States to make use of the geocaching newsletter for events, because that Bayfield one is not in my list. Also there is an event 8km from my house on Aug 28th that isn't on this newsletter. Do you notice the average distance to a "close" event for me on the August 19th newsletter is over 200km?
  23. So it looks like it's not a bug, it's that I'm getting a report of the next 10 "close events" but since the newsletter considers a 500km drive "close" I miss out on more local events that I am more likely to attend. Is there a way to tell the newsletter to pull that search in a bit closer, so I can get less notifications about event caches in Pennsylvania and more event notifications for events in Ontario, say within a two hour drive?
