  1. quote:Originally posted by mommy#1: I was wanting to know what a micro cahce meant. Does this mean you have to find one to find another like for example Pairie Triangle #1 #2 and #3 do I have to find one and two to find the big cache at three or is it just 3 little caches? It sounds like what you are asking about is actually a Multi cache, rather than a "Micro" cache. (Although many people who do multi-caches will use micro-containers for the pre-cache stages.) There isn't a particular set way to do multi's. Some will be a couple of stages which you do in sequence (each one giving coordinates or clues to the next stage, until you finally reach the cache). Others may give coordinates to a couple of stages, which you can do in whatever order you choose, where you then have to combine clues found from each of them to calculate the actual cache coordinates. There are as many ways to play this game as there are people to come up with new ideas. That's part of the fun...seeing what kinds of creative twists people will think up next! If a cache is listed as a "micro", it means that the cache container itself is very small...often, only including a small log sheet to sign, without any trade items. ------- "I may be slow, but at least I'm sweet!"
  2. I've had a couple of caches that have been found by non-geocachers. Two of them had nice log entries , one didn't get logged or stolen, the person just moved the cache from its hiding place, and wedged it in the crotch of a nearby tree, right out in the open (luckily, I found it before anyone else did); and the fourth never got any incidental logs in it, but just disappeared one day. ------- "I may be slow, but at least I'm sweet!"

  8. quote:Originally posted by The Heavenly Host: Does an event cache show up in your hidden count? After it finishes, does it get removed? I might want to try an event cache, but I don't want it to mess up my counts. At the recent MiGO Picnic, one person donated a container, and everyone else contributed a trinket, then a group went out and hid the new cache. After the picnic ended, the event page was updated with the cache coordinates, and it's still an active huntable cache. ------- "I may be slow, but at least I'm sweet!"

  12. quote:Originally posted by YukonShadow: I find it confusing that there is a second tracking number which doesn't seem to have a purpose. The number on the tag does everything so what is the other number listed on the page used for? The tracking number on the tag is not supposed to be publicized, and acts as the 'secret code' to allow only those who've actually handled the travel bug to 'grab' it, or add logs to its page. The other alpha-numeric reference number that begins with 'TB' is the one which should be used whenever referencing the travel bug in cache logs or the discussion forums. It's searchable for watching the bug, but doesn't allow you access to grabbing or logging it.

  15. quote:Originally posted by mtn-man: Sorry that my explaination is as confusing to you as your geocaching nickname is to me. LOL! The story behind my name is revealed here. quote:Originally posted by mtn-man: I do not think that finding tall buildings is "_novel, meaning of interest to someone else._" I do not plan part of my time while on vacation to go by the formerly tallest building in the state. However, an adobe mission building would be novel and would interest me, but not because it is was tall. It would be novel because of the history and events that happened there at it. I think it's interesting that a lot of people seem to be voting against allowing this cache to be posted just because it is not of interest to them. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't likely do this cache myself...but I can still see how it offers something 'novel', that may be of interest to SOME people. (Obviously, NO caches will sound interesting to everyone else.) Adobe mission buildings don't interest me, either. But that doesn't mean I think we should disallow a cache for finding them just because they aren't my cup of tea.

  17. quote:Originally posted by David & Diana: We never intended this to just be a 'find a tall building and log it' cache. quote:Originally posted by mtn-man: But that is exactly what your cache is, isn't it? To jump in on this...No, it ISN'T. To quote the cache description page: "Locate a building that was once the tallest building in the state or province. [...] The height does not matter as long as it once held the record." quote:Originally posted by mtn-man: Tall buildings are very common, while a two story adobe hut is historical. I do not think Geocachers would go visit a tall building because someone logged it as a find, but they might go visit a two story adobe hut that was still around. ALL previous record-holders have a certain amount of historical significance. Definitely some will be more novel and interesting than others. But, all in all, it almost sounds to me like you are arguing FOR this cache, rather than against it. ------- "I may be slow, but at least I'm sweet!"

  19. quote:Originally posted by Olar: IMHO there is nothing worse than hunting a cache that is in a trashy area. Its downright depressing. On the other hand, these places have good Cache In/Trash Out potential. If you take pictures of the area beforehand, and can demonstrate that, over the course of a summer, a noticeable improvement has been made, it would be a great example to point to for why park authorities should be receptive to allowing the sport in their jurisdictions. ------- "I may be slow, but at least I'm sweet!"

  21. Just bring your GPSr along, and make sure you drop him directly above a local cache. Plus, don't forget to warn the other passengers to put their oxygen masks on before you depressurize the cabin.

  23. The 14th will likely be better for me than the 21st. And even if I could make the 21st, I likely wouldn't stick around long enough to watch the fireworks, with a couple hour drive ahead of me, and Monday being a work day.
