  1. On a tangential note, how about a separate page for "Find Anywhere" (i.e. locationles) caches, as well?

  6. I remember seeing something about a change in the zipcode search (it was updated to include newer zipcodes that didn't previously work). I also notice that it now lists the city name when it finds the matches for a zipcode. I'm guessing that the updated zipcode database also included corrections to the "center of town" locations for certain zipcodes. Yours was probably adjusted slightly, which would affect the distance to the nearby caches.

  8. quote:Originally posted by gm100guy: Can you do this by posting a note on the bug page? I don't believe a note will do the trick, you have to actually place the bug from your inventory into the cache. Otherwise, it won't show up as ever having been linked to the cache page.
  9. I have a tendency to be a bit of a card at times. But I've noticed that humor can sometimes fall flat when put in writing, since people can't see our faces or tones of voice when we say something. (In fact...from various threads I've read here and in other places...it's not just humor that gets taken the wrong way.) I appreciate the reminder that I should always think twice at how other readers may receive my comments, rather than just blurting out the first thing that crosses my mind. Words are much easier to hold back than to take back. And while "I'm sorry" is better than nothing, it's still no substitute for not having hurt someone's feelings in the first place. So, considering the wide variety of potential readers on this forum, I'll try to curb my immature impulses in the future. (In fact, if you'd like me to delete the above, I'd be happy to.) -Z
  10. Unless the stated prerequisite of sending an e-mail was added to the cache description in a post-approval edit, it looks to me like the powers that be had no problem with it. As for my own opinion, I'm in agreement with those who've pointed out that the requirement was clearly stated...and if someone didn't want to comply with it, they could choose not to participate in the cache.
  11. Does it count if I'm a child at heart? (On a serious note, if you found my remark offensive, I apologize. I was merely intending to be silly...not to step on any toes.)

Capt Prozac I think many bug owners would be thrilled to see this happen, as long as you informed them in advance, so they weren't wondering what the status was. Others, however, want their specific goals adhered to, and/or would like to see their TB pass through as many hands as possible. In a case like this, I would recommend getting the owner's permission before taking the bug on a trip like this. - Zuck P.S. Any chance you'll be going to Rome (Italy) or Peterhof (Russia)? My Eensy Weensy Spider wants to visit the famous water fountains there.

  15. Check it out: I submitted a picture I took of the Major Tom travel bug to the Jones Soda company, and it actually got selected as a Staff Pick. (Not too shabby, considering less than 500 pictures were chosen out of more than 39,000 submitted.) If he makes it through to the next round, you just might run into him and his smiling buddy the next time you stop for a cold drink and a fuel up in between cache hunts.

  17. You should be able to. I'd just make sure that after 'placing' the bug into the virtual cache, you remember to 'retrieve' it again, so people don't get the mistaken impression they can go looking for it there.
  18. Weekends are the time that it's easiest for most people to go caching, so my rule of thumb isn't a certain number of days, but rather how many weekends. I try to get travel bugs back into circulation within two weekends of the time I first grabbed them. When others get MY travel bugs from a cache, I don't sweat it too much until after a month goes by. After that, unless I've gotten an e-mail (or some other indicator of what the status is), I begin to get irritated.
  19. quote:Originally posted by BassoonPilot: To _require_ a photo would be discriminatory against those folks who don't own a digital camera or scanner. Not necessarily. It's not all that expensive to have pictures scanned at K-mart, RiteAid, Kinkos, etc. And if it is discriminatory, could the same be true for setting up a cache which requires the use of a GPSr to find it?

  21. I don't know whether you did this or not, but one thing I'd recommend when deleting someone's post is to first copy and paste their text into the e-mail notification you send them, so it's easy for them to repost the entry again once they've met the approval requirements. I definitely agree that person should have been less rude with their reply. If it were me, I'd send a short response telling them that an e-mail would be sufficient for notifying you, and avoid allowing yourself to react to the rude tone.
  22. Whew, I'm glad you didn't name yourselves the Florida Association of Geocachers.
