Maybe they wanted to get the perspective of someone newer, so viewers who aren't familiar with the sport could relate. If it was someone who's done a couple of hundred, maybe the general public would feel a bit intimidated by them. Or...maybe all the big time cachers were out HUNTING CACHES, and not available for comment.

  4. I was thinking of just a simple (each person uses their own criteria) 1-5 stars rating, like the ones we see here.
  5. What does everything think of the idea of adding a "Rating" field to the cache logs (similar to the ones that were recently added to this discussion forum)? Whenever someone enters a log on the cache, they'd have the opportunity to rate the cache. (Or, if they didn't want to, they could leave the field blank.) Then, on the search results summary page, along with the current information, it would show the average rating for the cache. I understand that it would be completely subjective, and that we all have different things we like/dislike...but I think it would be interesting to get the feedback on the caches I place, and it would be a nice feature for helping to scan available caches, and decide which ones may be more worthwhile to visit. I definitely think it would be more useful to have a rating system on the caches, than on these discussion threads.

Actually, I wouldn't need to convert to feet, since the distance requirements are set up in meters (100 m for uncaptured flags, and 10 m for enemy-owned flags). Unfortunately, it looks like my only choices are miles, kilometers, and whatever "NM" stands for. (But if I used 0.01 km as 1 m, that should give me more accuracy than having to round down to 0.00 miles, which is what I've been doing since I can never be sure whether my 0.01 within 0.0062...it could actually be as high as 0.0149, which is more than twice what I have to be within.) Thanks for the suggestion.

  10. Macro, in my case, it's not so much a matter of being able to visualize how close I am, but in knowing that I'm within a specified distance. For the MinuteWar game, we have to get within 10 meters (approximately 28 ft or .0062 miles) to capture an enemy's flag. Since the flags are imaginary, I have only my GPS coordinates to go by. And since my readout rounds to 0.01, I've been making myself get a zero reading to be sure I'm within the 10 meters. It would be nice to have more accurate measurements, but I guess you get what you pay for. (Good thing my birthday's coming up, at least. )

  12. Yeah, I thought it seemed normal enough. (I suppose that makes me weird, too. )

If you're curious about where someone lives, a quick way to get a pretty good idea is to click on their name, and then from their info page, follow the links to where they've been placing and finding caches. I thought it was clever, too. (But then my opinion might be a bit baised. ) However, I have to admit, after having been online for awhile, I've noticed that it's much easier to step on toes or offend here than it is in person. (Can't hear tones of voice, or see body language, etc. Plus, there's a wide cross-section of personality and humor-tolerance levels of people who visit forums like this.) Hopefully this mild example of a politely and calmly worked out near-misunderstanding will stand as a gentle reminder to all of us to think twice before we post...as well as to take what we read with a grain of salt, and try not to be oversensitive to crude or childish remarks. (Sometimes that's what people thrive on...getting emotional reactions. To ignore their remarks is often the most effective way of curbing rude behavior.)

  17. I was wondering this same thing about my Eagle Explorer. Since this is an older (and very basic) model, I'm guessing I'm SOL.

The place that I bought it sounded like they wouldn't be getting any more in. Rubbermaid seems to be cheaper...and more importanly, I can actually FIND it for sale.

  22. So a group of 45 people aren't allowed to rent a pavillion?
