It is Pocket Queries, GSAK and Cachemate to satisfy all my needs. No complaint about any of it.. they all have enhanced my caching. -
Usefulness Of Pda W/ Keyboard Vs. Laptop
LthrWrk replied to globalgirl's topic in GPS technology and devices
I have a Palm IIIxe with an accessory keyboard. Love it. Works great. -
Sent an email. What fun this sounds like.

I do like to trade. not very often though do I take something. I do leave my sig item as often as possible. Doing a puzzle/multi that in the end you open a padlock to find nothing.. well I wouldnt bother to do the cache.
-
I do enjoy the occassional puzzle cache and multi's. Sometimes I avoid em on a day of caching when I am tryn to 'work' (Play) my way to a certain destination. The variety of so many different ways to enjoy this geocaching thing makes it suitable for everyone to choose the ones each wants to seek. I say.. keep bringing on all the different mix.

I usually go on about my geocaching activity without concern for others observing me. Usually. On one occassion on a hunt in a large city park on a remote area. There were to fellas on a log drinking beer with cans about. Now that sort bother me, not knowing how intoxicated they may have been. Though we went with the cache search. Gave them plenty of room. Otherwise I carry those fold over cards and introduce others to geocaching in a positive encouraging manner. All this stealth and stuff usually just makes you look more suspicious.

Sure sometimes people bash the reviewers/approvers.. but ya gotta wonder if any cache that has unusual requirements of the seeker should be questioned? What prompts someone to think that adding strange rules or requirements makes it a cache that people would look for?

Sig Items...let's See Some Pics.
LthrWrk replied to tnfishdaddy's topic in General geocaching topics
I make my own.. Some of the mounts I use are upto $3.75 each.. some I got on a super sale for $.75. I make em in a batch of 30-40 and takes me 4-5 hours. Then put them in vacuum seal bags .. So another hour to do a batch. See my items on the first page of this thread. -
Yes... have been confronted.. but so far never by law enforcement. I carry some of those fold over business cards that describe geocaching. Never has anyone been hostile. Nearly all seemed interested to hear about it.

I am approaching my 100th cache.. so decided to make a special sig item to trade. Here is the inside of it: A standard 3x5 top spiral bound notebook fits.. the back cardboard needs trimmed just a bit. My usual sig items look similar to these -

I use a Palm IIIxe very sufficient.. I doubt I can find the 487 that are loaded in it within a few days. Easy to update when paired with GSAK. Many of the so called PDAs on ebay do not have sufficient memory. 8MB is what the PalmIIIxe has.

There is a conflict apparently with the WAGPS group having an event that same evening. I didnt know about it. So looks like the reviewer wont allow this one to be approved. No big deal. If you cant make it down to Everett.. This small thing in Mt Vernon will still be on.

Hi .. Decided to host an event for some of us to put names/nicks to faces. Submitted as an event but dont know how long that will take for approval. Kinda just a general thing to tell stories and discussion of geocaching or to solve world problems. N48 24.441 W122 19.598 630-830PM Thurs, Feb 10th Hillcrest Park, Mount Vernon WA This is an open air but covered pavillion with lights. Dress appropriately.. Bring beverages and snacks if you wish. No alcohol please. Got questions? Post a comment or send email.

I have PC and PDA. Useing cachemate. Can you open cachemate on the PC.. add notes to a cache then synch that with the pda?
-
Consider first... what is at the location I want to place this cache? Distance then is secondary.

Become A Cache Caretaker/caregiver
LthrWrk replied to cachecare's topic in General geocaching topics
Good Grief.. where do these elitist ideas come from???? I cannot imagine a 'secret club' it seems to insinuate. This game is fine just the way it is. Leaves a lot of flexibility for everyone to enjoy it their way. -
KEWL BEANS.... I rather see that the feds are active. Admittedly geocaching activity could seem suspicious. Probably one of the reasons I do not try and be too stealthy.. just draws attention. Proactive law enforcement is OK by me.

Well, This Should Be Interesting To See.....
LthrWrk replied to fly46's topic in General geocaching topics
ack!!!.. be prepared for hundreds and hundreds of emails. From someones geocaching website I got sucked into one of those endless questionnaires for the 'free' prize. They will sell your information to ALL of their affiliates and it just never seems to end. Everytime you submit "unsubscribe" it only confirms your email address too. Will you get the gps... let us know but I doubt it. -
I learned early on that if my "chasing the arrow" would have me bushwack I stop. Consider if the trail I am on may wind around to where the arrow is pointing. Up here in the Pacific Northwest bushwacking thru briars and fallen limbs and trees can lead to injuries. Some cache placements have created trails and widely trampled undergrowth. I have seen or heard no caches that were relocated to lessen the habitat damage. Shouldnt that be part of 'cache maintenance"?

I Know This Has To Be A Can Of Worms, But
LthrWrk replied to Seay me's topic in GPS technology and devices
Quad Helix... I better under some marginal conditions. Maybe also take a look at Magellan Meridian series. My Caching partner (who uses a Garmin) and I have been comparing results at some caches. Sometimes she is closer sometimes I am.
