  1. I dont generally carry anything worth over $5.00 US, actually right now in my swag the most expensive item is worth $1.50 US. If I ever came upon something as awesome as what was listed is the OP I would go home to find something to trade. If home was too far away i would search my car, or if I was desperate enough I would hit a store and buy something worth trading, which sounds silly but its a possibility. If I were heading out to a cache that contains items ranging from $1-40.00 US I would hope that info was posted on the cache page so I could be prepared when I get there. JMHO
  2. Unactivated TB sounds like an awesome idea! If I were an FTF on a cache and got that for a prize, I would be happy.
  3. 50 caches Found as of April 11, 2010.
  4. I dont think nanos are so bad.....IF....They are used for a place where a larger cache is not ideal and/or if used for multi cache coord stages. I also enjoy when people get creative and alter an object to fit a secret nano inside, this is entertaining and challenging. Yesterday i found a nano attached to a curbstone rod that pulled out of the stone, the find was awesome. Nanos make for great opportunities for geocammoed hides. Im not talking about evil hides just the creative hidden in plain sight kind. These also help hone the geosense. No I dont really enjoy the nano in the stop sign placed for no particular reason or anything of the like. I do symathize with the OP though sometimes it does seem like Micros and Nanos are breeding exponentially and it can get annoying. Its all part of the game!
  5. I try to revisit a few times and place the cache on my watch list. If after like 3 or more times i log it as a DNF. I leave it on my watch list for a while even after logging DNF sometimes the owner checks on the cache and says Its fine, I go out and give it another whack. Other times I get a notification that someone found the cache and then also I go out and give it another whack. I know sometimes people contact the cache owner for a few hints, I haven't done this yet. Right now with all the snow I leave the DNF for another time after another try when everything is melted, I kinda go out with the expectation of DNFs. Just the other day I went out we found 2 out of 3. Another day before that we went out and found nothing, too much snow and the terrain was hard to handle even though it was just a little hill off the side of an old long gone railroad trail. We decided to leave it until spring. From the looks of things we would have had to dig around in the snow.
  6. Please note: You will be in violation of federal regulation by placing a cache in any area administered by the National Park Service (US). The National Park regulations are intended to protect the fragile environment, and historical and cultural areas found in the parks. If that is not correct then why is it listed on the first time placing a cache guide right on geocaching.com Placing your first cache Not looking for a fight just curious.
  7. Interesting! well every place is different, we dont have that problem here.
  8. What kind of Public park is it? is it a town park or a state park? Is it a city park? State parks are a little more picky. Its state property run by the state department of management. National parks dont allow caches at all, its illegal to place one City or town parks are public property and I dont believe you need to get permission because its equivalent to placeing a cache on the sidewalk which everyone has access to no permission needed The no ammo can rule is probably because they may have had to deal with a false bomb threat one too many times or its just preventative.
  9. I think the park may have made the no caches more than 25 feet off the path because they dont want that kind of responsibility on their hands, the park can be liable for things that they condone which occur on their property. They could have had a problem in the past, who knows.
  10. Absolutely no offense taken, never thought you were knocking the hobby. It sounds like these are the parks requirements mostly, try different places to set a cache not every park will have the same problem. Parks can be difficult because they have there own rules and preferences which you have to submit to in addition to geocaching.com rules Try someplace outside of a park.
  11. DITTO to all of the above. All games need to have rules or its no fun, it wouldnt be a game with out rules. If we didnt have rules there would be chaos, caches everywhere, no fun to find them if they are too close together. Not to mention false bomb threats. Moldy food and ruined containers due to wildlife. We would have innapropriate cache contents, not family friendly. We would have abandoned uncared for caches. we would have dangerous cache contents. some people think fireworks make great swag. ETC, ETC, ETC and so on.......... Gotta have rules to keep an even field, not everyone sees things the same way. If we let everyone do as they see fit, it wont be pretty or fun.
  12. That is AWESOME that your daughter decided that her activity for the day should be picking up trash along the river, she sounds smart, caring and thoughtful.
  13. You could always get a few pairs of cheap cooking tongs(maybe from the thrift store)? thats an awesome idea, i never thought of that for an inexpensive trash grabber. We did trash pick up nearby once. we used polypropelene gloves, the kind that come out of a dispenser box. Even though we were wearing gloves it did still seem too close to my hands for comfort. Now I will use that idea and we can do trash pick up more often. Also, just a thought, trash picking up makes great muggle deterrent because you have a reason to be there (where ever you are) you are picking up trash its obvious no need for muggles to ask questions.
  14. Re: #1... are you afraid a racoon might attack the 55 gallon drum? LOL! OK, yeah, a bear might be able to roll it away from the posted coordinates, but we're not exactly talking peanut butter jar here (of which I have probably found at least 500 of, almost all in good condition). Your next two points, while excellent, are not guidelines according to this website's listing criteria, are they? No, but they would make the container potentially unsafe for users to access it. And the OP asked if it was a good idea. I disagree. Either of those would be perfectly fine, provided the container was properly cleaned. I think that we can assume that no one is going to hide a cache using a gunky oil drum. No gunky oil drums or toxic waste I would never do that. I was thinking more on the lines of old 55 gallons that stored dry stuff like paper scraps or wood or saw dust. it may not even end up being a 55 gallon drum in particular, just something really large.
  15. It will most likely be on a relatives land which she owns.
  16. Hmmmm.... Tote Bin..... Padlock...... chains.........sounds like a good idea to me.
  17. Forget evil micro........... Evil Large........ mu wha ha ha ha! EEEExcellent!!!
  18. I found that one! The lid was kept on with chains and a combo-lock. Combo was on the cache page. Had buckets screwed in on the inside to keep the logbook and trackables within reach. Now, as for this cache with a 55gal drum... let's make it a challenge: ha ha ha ha ha ha..............which one is it in!!!!!!
  19. Drums can be purchased completely clean and unused or maybe I could look into one of those drums they use to hold paper scraps at paper factories or something similiar. Where it would go is on my aunts property if she lets me and theres no muggles to worry about, I might cammo it for the fun of the game though.
  20. Im thinking about placing a 55 gallon drum cache. Is it good? Is it bad? Is it legal? Is it possible? Im looking for some opinions.
  21. You have to be sure it is an outdoor bunny or an indoor bunny. If it Spent most of its life outdoors in a bunny hutch it is accustomed to living outside, its body is accustomed to out door climate. The bunny may overheat and that could make it very sick or it could die. Make sure you check its ears for overheating. When I got my rabbit we had to decide when it was small, indoor or outdoor? We decided on outdoor and whenever we brought her in we could only bring her in for so long because of overheating. Also.... thankyou for rescuing that bunny, the poor thing. After being a pet it definitely would not be able to fend for itself. He/She is really cute. Looks like a BIG one I bet he'll eat Thrice his weight in carrots LOL
  22. I got 4 TB tags and my first premium memberhip upgrade!
