I have read the FAQ and user instructions for a Travel Bug but I still don't understand the difference between "grabbing" and "picking up" a TB. Can someone please explain in words of .5 syllables please.

I have two TB's in my possession which I intended to log in and out of a regular cache up Kilimanjaro this week with the intention then of putting them into a more frewuently visited one back home. However, when I got there I couldn't find the cache (due to my having to change to UTM coordinates on my Garmin at the last moment and something was obviously wrong). However, I did find a microcache at another location on Kilimanjaro. My question is, is it allowed to (virtually) log these in and out of the microcache since they won't fit physically ?

Sorry, I should have said Pocket Query

This is probably a FAQ but I have trawled back recent history and what with the constant rapid change of technology thought it's probably worth another airing. I currently have an Etrex Summit and a Sony Clie PalmOS PDA. Having been bitten by the Geocaching bug I now feel the need to upgrade. I am tempted to go Ipaq 2210 and a Bluetooth GPS. Is this a good combination ? My reasoning is as follows - 1. Separate GPS from the PDA allows one to position it for best signal. However, it's another battery to worry about. 2. Although I have had PalmOS for the last couple of years there seems to be more software available for the Pocket PC - in particular in the UK a product called Memory Map which doesn't work on the Palm. 3. The Ipaq seems to be very popoular and very functional. Does anyone know if it's possible to get a waterproof case for it, to enable it to be used in the rain. Finally, I also want to easily load coordinates from the Pocket PC into the GPS - I don't particularly want to load my entire cache database that exists on the PPC into the GPS, but just ad-hoc as I need them. What is the best software for this (incidentally I am using GSAK on my Laptop).

Thanks everyone. Turned out my problem was the size of attachments, now receiving PQ's fine.

Thanks everyone. I have now downloaded what I want using PQ's and GSAK.

Sounds like a good plan, probably do that. I've been before but my wife hasn't made it to the top so we're having another crack at it.

Thanks everyone, I've now loggged the find. However, when I try and email the owners from their profile page I get an error page which is headed "Server error in '/' application". Is there a problem with such email at the moment.

Sorry, but please remember I'm a newbie. I went to that site but still can't see how I log it since there's no mention of my coin (which incidentally is a USA one).

Sorry, you're going too fast for me here. How do I look for the website where it can be tracked, or how do I find the owner

On a Geotrail this weekend in the English Lake District I acquired a "Geocoin" from one of the caches. Two questions - 1. The information with it told me to log it on this site, but I can't see how to do that (the coin has a number on it) 2. I have to move it to a site that is not one which is rarely visited. I am going to Kilimanjaro next week and could leave it in one of the geocaches there. However they only seem to be visited about every 3 weeks. Would this count as rarely visited or would the novelty value outweigh the frequency ?

To answer your questions - Yes, I am setting the zip function I have set my mail address to my default geocaching one - which is obviously working because I received your private mail with the text of your post. No firewall issues, other mail is fine No trouble now with my email, it was a temporary problem one day. As far as spam is concerned I have checked my junk mailbox as well Size limit might just be a problem - what size are these PQ attachments, I have requested 400 entries

Tried it again. Don't know what I am doing wrong but I'm definitely not receiving anything back, yet if I run the query on line it works fine. Shame, because I was going walking today and I've had to print a load of caches out to paper.
-
Ah, that's what I was afraid of, I have been having some email problems. I'll try again

Can someone please tell me what time of day, or how frequently, a pocket cache query gets serviced. I requested three earlier today and I have still not seen anything (I do have today ticked as one of my update days).

Thanks, I've worked it out now -
Putting In Waypoints To An Etrex Summit
tonydenson replied to tonydenson's topic in GPS technology and devices
Not sure what you mean by the "click stick" -
Is it possible to add an arbitrary waypoint manually to an Etrex Summit (as opposed to downloading it) ?
-
When I click on download it doesn't give me the option to download a GPX file, it automatically downloads a LOC.

I think I'm still missing something. I have selected a set of cache entries and downloaded them. I have then used EasyGPS to read them but only have coordinates. All I want to see is what I can see on the website. Ultimately I'd like to see them on my Palm but for the moment I just want an off-line copy on my PC.

How do I download selected entries from the geocache database to my PC so I can look them up without an internet connection ? Note I am not asking how to download coordinates but the entire entry with the description etc. Tony
