  1. ^That. And put a shirt on! Oh wait... no need anymore. :)

On edit: You have been caching for awhile now and undoubtedly have some experience to share with others.

Why the drive by insults? If you don't agree with the situation you find yourself in then try to make it better.

Insults and belittling the people that share the same hobby as you should not be nearly as fulfilling as helping them become better at the hobby you share.

No need to prom everybodys poush.

You are either part of the problem or part of the solution and I don't see you offering many solutions.

  2. Jerks will come, and jerks will go.

Nothing to get overly excited about.

If a big storm comes through and floods out the area (washing away several caches), is there a big hue and cry raised about 'The Big Storm', and how to deal with it?

    NO.

    The storm comes.

    The willow bends.

    The storm passes.

    The willow remains.

    Bend, like the willow.

    I agree Zen master.

or as Bruce Lee used to say "be the water"

  3. I attempted to use AAA's towing 2 times and then got rid of it in short order. I rarely get stuck so I just use my free tows from my normal car insurance or pay for the tow which is much cheaper than paying for AAA.

Average tow here has cost me about $80.

Price for AMA is $90 a year and include lock out service, trip planning, discounts at hotels, points when refueling that can be used towards membership dues, they will bring you gas if you run out, they will come and change a flat tire for you, boost your car when the battery dies and many other things aside from the towing.

I have never had to wait more than 45 minutes for service (although I have never had to use it during a storm or anything).

Very much worth it for me as I am a courier that drives about 200kms a day 5-6 days a week.

Umm... I think I went a tad off topic with my verbal spewage.

I do plan on buying a spot though. I and the wife were caching in the mountains this week without cell service and encountered a bear.

SPOT would help them find our scattered bones.

  4. In the Ocala National Forest I get almost no cell coverage. But there are lots of nice caches up there. If something happens, then what? How do I even tell someone where I am at that moment? My phone doesn't work well. Even if I am in any condition to unlock the screen, press the app for 911, how will my broken up message to 911 help me?

Even with the tree cover, I have a better chance at pressing one button, having someone understand that I need help at these coordinates, and coming to help--without me having to try to talk.

The basic model is $100. That's all I need. That's not much money when we are talking about $200 and $300+ GPSrs. $100 per year? My AAA is more than that, and I don't use that too much either. But when I need it--there is no substitute.

I would use it on my bike trips, too, just in case.

I am glad I posted this question. The feedback has been great! Thank you.

There's an app for 911?

Wouldn't it be just as easy to umm... I dunno... dial 911?

  5. From the locked thread: I am leaving geocaching...

[potty language and personal attack removed by moderator] you need a beer and a good woman or two to make you happy.

I still remember not being able to listen to the band Journey for years because an old girlfriend used to listen to them all the time. Not to mention, I couldn't stand white Mustangs with the black stripe down the middle because her new boyfriend drove one. So, I joined the Army and learned how to kill. Years later, I don't remember what she looked like or her birthday. But, can you believe it? I still remember her stupid number: 355-TYKA.

As for Geocaching, who cares if you don't enjoy it anymore. Many of us do. So, don't be a KillJoy. Enjoy life to it's fullest extent. Before you can be happy with anyone, or an activity, you have to learn how to love yourself. [offensive content removed by moderator]

I am sorry about my potty mouth. I didn't mean for it to be vulgar...just funny! I don't even remember what I wrote. :)

Why and what? why do I have a feeling we will read about this in a newspaper someday?

  6. Its geocaching, its amazing there is this much to say about, you hide it, I find it. There I said it

you have a point you wish to make?

I think he just figured we needed a 2nd "you people needed to get a life" thread in the past 5 days. Dang, they typically average less than one a month. ;)

well, i guess if one hunts for LPC there isn't much to talk about :)

    I'll be your Huckleberry....

I hunt for LPC's... I hunt for ammo cans in the woods...

Tell me why there isn't much to talk about?

i said nothing about ammo cans in the woods...would you perhaps want to read my reply again?

Nope. Pretty sure you think people that do hunt for LPC's only hunt for them and not other caches.

At least that is the impression you gave.

  8. Hmm, but what would constitute a 'disability' and would we have to prove it to be allowed to post.

Heck, I was once told that I should apply for disability payments... :anicute:

cause I was blonde, female, left-handed, short and Canadian...

He said I'd be a shoe-in for it with that many handicaps.... :);)

Personally, I think that most of us have a 'disability' of one kind or another!! May as well just keep it all in one place don'tchathink!

    Actually no.

If you have a disability you know it and don't need any proof to allow you to post.

  9. I learned that one day just isn't enough to say hi to all my old friends, and meet a bunch of new friends. It was great putting faces to names I've seen here in the forums and on Facebook. I would have liked to meet many more. Even Bittsen.

    +1

I learned that writing down every trackable number I see is a verrrrry bad idea. I think I spent about two hours trying to log all of them.

    Never doing that again.

I learned to take photos of trackable numbers, now my cell phone is full of photos of them. I'll probably log them someday... :)

Yes, especially for the girls who wear their TB tags as necklaces.

    WHATever.

I did learn that there are a lot of people out there that have different ideas of where personal space is. :) I had total strangers coming up to me and picking up my travel bug tags that were hanging around my neck. I learned to grab them and display them for people when I saw them coming. :P:anicute:

Naw, it doesn't bother me that much, I just find it odd and a little disconcerting that people assume that it's ok. Personally, I hugged so many people, more than I probably ever have at one time. I still feel all warm and fuzzy from the weekend. ;)

OK now that is funny. I was so happy to see you and your smiling face that I didn't even notice you had tags around your neck. I was actually referring to a young halter clad blond girl at GW4 who was thoroughly enjoying the additional attention. I chose to be more general as I thought it was more discrete. :anicute:

Yeah, yeah, you complimented my smile, so I'll let it slide. ;);)

I'm not halter clad (and not blonde anymore, now that I've grown up), but here's a picture of me, where you can kinda see my tags:

er.... do you have any pics of said halter clad blond girl?

Photochopping that pic as you read this to put you in a halter top and make your hair blond.

(kidding! you look swell as you are) :)

  10. I am reading this thread from a link given in another thread. OK now that I got that out; I also found a live round in a cache. Today I opened a cache and dumped out the contents, a plastic ring, lizard (fake), log, pencil, no geocoin as stated in the inventory (thats a whole separate issue), rocks with names wrote on them with a sharpie (WTF?), and a .22 short rim fire round. Not real dangerous but a kid and a hammer could find themselves in a little trouble. Heck even someone shaking this cache could have set it off, the rocks hitting a rim fire shell casing at just the right, well you get it. I disposed of it when I got home, threw it in the burn pit out back, lol. No I stuck it in a half shot box of rounds. I find it odd that someone would leave a bullet in a cache, heck I found the rocks with names from a sharpie on them odd!
The rocks with the names on were almost certainly "signature items". Yeah... maybe not the best you will ever find, but I suspect that was the intent. The bullet was either left by a rank newbie, or possibly a muggle. No experienced cacher that I know of would leave something like that in a cache.

That said, a .22 caliber bullet in a cache is relatively harmless. Without the compression of a firing chamber and the guidance system of a barrel, what you have is pretty much a fire cracker. The lightweight brass of the shell is what is going to be the most serious part, if it did go off at all. Yeah, that could hurt, could even cause blindness, but nobody is gonna get shot.

Oh come on! in your opinion a .22 caliber bullet is relatively harmless and you say it is pretty much a firecracker???

Are firecrackers OK or not? :)

(sorry... I had to call you on this)

  11. Leave your intrusive commercial solicitation out of the groupspeak sites and discussion forums.

Watch out for this guy. I was asking a question, not stating I was going to do it.

And thanks to the others for the answers I was looking for.

Your question wasn't like "how does a bumble bee fly?".

You know you were asking because it was something you wanted to do.

And as for "And thanks to the others for the answers I was looking for" part,

You will NOT get the answers you are looking for on any forum if you are only looking for answers that agree with you.

I personally didn't take offense at your post at all. I think it was good that you asked before trying to just spam the forums.

Good luck in your business endeavors.
