That's what's happening no matter if I plug it in and turn it on or plug in while it's turned on. Garmin wants me to install a webupdater program but how can I do that if the unit won't turn on? Looks like I'll just go back to entering coords by hand. Thanks for the reply.

On the topic of the Venture HC. Mine turns off and won't turn back on when I plug it into the computer. I've tried this on more than one computer and with more than one USB cable. Garmin said the master reset would fix it. It didn't. Now they say it's a battery problem. It happens with different sets of fully-charged batteries too. It works fine otherwise but loading coords by hand is no fun.

I wonder if this is some kind of design flaw. This has happened to me once or twice before but I've always been able to reset it by removing the batteries. Today it just gives me the vertical line after acquiring the satellites. I emailed Garmin but I'm not gonna hold my breath. At least my birthday's next month, maybe I'll just give myself an early present.
