  1. I don't think having sensible guidelines will ruin the enjoyment, if anything it should improve enjoyment beacuse people are not at risk of getting injured, burn't etc and no wildlife is put at risk. I have removed a plastic bag from a tree thinking it was going to be a Geocache only to find it full of syringes (Which I took to the local police station to be destroyed) I have invested in some cammo bags which I will try out as they are waterproof and not biodegradeable and they were resonably priced. See Here Also of my three caches that I have hidden are in Ammo cans (with Geocaching Stickers on the outside to avoid confusion) and I think they are ideal. (My other cache is a 35mm Film Cannister) So in summary I don't think it is going to prevent new caches or ruin peoples fun it is just common sense.
  2. Hi. I was in Maplin yesterday and found what I think would be a great container for a Geocache. They are called Discovery Tubes and they are made of a tough clear plastic (would need painting or hiding very well!) and approximately 6 inches in length and 2 inches in diameter. They contain various experiment kits for kids and are priced at £3.99. (I bought one for my nephew in the understanding that I get the tube back ) I think they would be ideal for something inbetween a 35mm film cannister and a tupperware box as they are long enough to hold a pen/pencil and wide enough for small items or small travel bugs. I am not sure how weatherproof they are but they have a screw lid and I am pretty certain they will stand up to everything but being submerged. I am now planning a location to hide my new container which I may put inside a cammo bag for extra cammoflage. Please let me know if you have used these before or may consider using them after reading this Cheers Darren (D_Skids)
  3. I would like a copy too please if you would be so kind. Many Thanks
  4. What are the best maps to get for Geocaching 1:250000 or 1:500000?
  5. Out of curiosity what does the cache approver do to approve a cache. I used to think that the nearest approver actually visited the cache to determine the co-ordinates were OK etc until I had somebody visit my cache before I even knew it had been approved! (Published it about 11pm at night and FTF was the following morning at 8am). I am guessing that they use something like google maps or google earth and if the place looks like a reasonable spot they authorise it. Is that about right? D_Skids
  6. I picked up a travel bug not so long ago and felt guilty because I had held onto it for just over a week. I emailed the owner to let them know that I still had it and ended up just dropping it into one of my own caches a couple of days later to get it moving again. My opinion is that if this person has hayfever and cannot get out that much because of it he shouldn't take travel bugs in the first place. I also think that it would be better to drop it off in a nearby cache even if it has been there before so at least it would be in circulation again.

    Website Update

It seems a little strange that two people would choose to delete their logs as they had found them succesfully and if they had deleted the logs would it still not record that the log had been there. (If you see what I mean )

    Website Update

Hi. Is there an issue with the website updates recently. the reason I ask is that I have had emails to say that two of my caches have been visited this weekend just gone but they are not on the website. Many thanks Darren.
  9. Has anybody tried Google Maps when struggling to find that elusive cache. http://maps.google.co.uk/ It is great although can be a bit of a giveaway. You can simply copy and paste the co-ordinates from geocaching.com and voila. If you are lucky enough you may even get satellite imagery (Like where I live in Northamptonshire) and I am sure the imagery will increase as time goes on. Apologies if this is old news as it has been out a while but it was only recently that I realised you could put co-ordinates in. Darren (D_Skids)
  10. Thanks for all the useful advice guys I didn't realise Abington Park was a micro cache! I was planning to drop a TB off there as well in the next few days.
  11. Thanks for the info but unfortunately even the micro cache log books are too big. Also there are no microcaches near to me to see how they have done it.
  12. Hi. I have found a couple of locations that would be great to hide a couple of micro caches in the form of camera film containers (the places I have in mind do not have anywhere suitable for bigger caches.) What I was thinking of doing was posting the location to the first micro cache and then in that microcache I would put co-ordinets to the next one (A multi cache I suppose) What I would like to know though is what is the best way to get people to log their finds because the containers would be too small for a log book? One idea I had would be to ask the person that find the second cache to have a photo taken of/with it but without giving away any clues to the location. What are your thoughts on this please or do you have any other suggestions I could try. Many Thanks Darren (D_Skids)
  13. Hi. I am thinking of getting a new mobile phone and have seen the Nokia 5140 with optional GPS X-press on GPS cover which sounds ideal for me. The cover provides standard GPS functions like waypoints etc. Does anyone own one of these and if so what is your opinion of it? Cheers Darren.
  14. If you have visited Sywell Hidden (GCKK69) in the past and especially if you used the Geocache Camera that I put in it, please feel free to have a look at the pictures I have uploaded to here Sywell Hidden If you are in any of the pictures it would be great if you could put a name to the face so that I know who you are. You can either put it on the message board link on my site or as a reply to this post. Many Thanks Darren (D_Skids)
  15. This has got me thinking along the lines of magnets. How about a small watertight metal container underwater with the co-ordinates at the edge of the water. Throw in a magnet on a piece of string to try to retrieve the item! Obviously there would have to be strong warnings about children going to near the water etc and the bank should be solid e.g. a concrete slipway or the side of a canal. It would be a good idea but maybe a little too dangerous.
  16. This person must be Father Christmas He did about 35 caches in one day (Yesterday) spread over a fair distance. Seriously though this type of person spoils it for us genuine cachers and should be dealt with accordingly. What can this person gain from this. Is it possible to ban them?
  17. Does anybody know what has happened to the Geocache UK site as it has been unavailable for a few days now? I know they were having problems with there Stats pages etc and were looking at moving servers but I didn't notice any announcements about the being down for a while. Many Thanks Darren
