  1. Does anyone know if there is an easier way to look up archived caches other than the GC map? Currently I am using the GC.com maps with the identify/show archived caches. Is there an easier way to search for them? DC
  2. Well, since there hasn't been an overwhelming response to this post, I'll assume that nobody is planning an event for Whidbey. I'll contact the parks service to see if they have any suggestions. What kind of turn-out could I expect? I figure we can put some fun, games and prizes into it. If you're interested in coming out to Whidbey on the 16th, please let me know by posting here. DC
  3. R&R, Wanted to thank you for the coin here. You'll get my half of the trade when they are complete! DC
  4. Thanks RWW, thats a good idea. I was just probing to see if anyone else had started anything before I did... DC
  5. Is anyone planning a CITO event for the Whidbey Island area? If not, I'll sponsor one. I didn't want to plan one if it was already in the works somewhere else. If there isn't one planned, for those of you in the area (or that would like to come join us in our area), where would you want to have it? There are so many awesome spots on Whidbey! DuncanClan
  6. Just purchased one via paypal, would like #28 if available, 17 if not, 24 as a last resort. If none of these are available, could you please post what numbers are left? Thanks, Eric
  7. Hi, I'm Eric and I'm a dork. My wife's a dork. My kids are dorks. I know this because my wife's friends told me that we're all dorks. Just because we go outside, get exercise have adventures together, rent canoes to get caches, play with cool techno-geek stuff, and have a 5 year old that can operate a GPS (and the computer)...oh and did I mention, although I am the most ate-up one in the clan, we do this dorky hobby together...yup dorks. Her friends' big adventures include...errrr....the mall. Yup, I'm a dork and my kids are too...Thank God! DC Carpe diem
  8. Eagle Scout Troop 202, Ogden UT, Order of the Arrow Brotherhood, and now my daughter is in the Brownies, I am not the leader, but Shannon (my wife and geocaching partner) is. DC Edit: spelling, clarification
  9. One to say that light switches is off topic and should be moved to the light switches forum. One to say light switch caches are very dangerous, require special equipment, and are probably just another kind of micro...that's okay though, I heard we need more micros. One to say the best lightbulb micros would be a maglite bulb...or is it mag litebulb...or maglitebulb...? One to say, Can we get a smiley with a light bulb over its head? One to repeat that this topic should be moved to the dark collector forum. ...and me to say...I've seen the light, and now the lack thereof. Ya'll are a hoot. (please don't move this to the owl forum...or is it the fowl forum?). DC Carpe Diem
  10. Got my coins yesterday! Oh yeah...real nice. DC

  12. First of all I'm 37 and remember helping with the stamps too. Secondly, regarding the UPS shipping. It really is too bad that it is so expensive. I have ordered from the GC store in the past and paid it, however last weekend I just wanted to pick up a couple of things to drop in a new cache, stickers, tb, etc. and the shipping was going to be more than the total of merchandise. No, I didn't complete the order. I would imagine they lose a lot of "little" sales because of it. Yes, It's a good idea to get together with all the geocachers in your area and place an order... imagine those logistics to save a couple of bucks. Yes, another good idea was to have one cacher buy out one single item (we can each pick one) then resell them on these forms (that'll go over well), marked up to cover shipping...makes sense and probably not very time consuming either. Or, someone could start their own website, buy all the stuff in the GC store, mark it up and charge less shipping. Don't want to mark it up too much or people will complain that it is too expensive....just enough to break even. The USPS will pick up priority mail packages from your home or place of business, just like UPS (except UPS charges I believe). Why wouldn't they go to a different shipping system to encourage more sales? I don't have the answers, must not be the big money maker for them. So I will wait until I need a bunch of stuff and try and offset the shipping that way I guess. DC
  13. 14.2 miles...and we haven't yet got half of them. DC
  14. ShowStop, I emailed you yesterday, did you get it? DC
  15. Bummer being bumbed down like that. If they only knew the business they are potentially alienating by conducting their business like this. DC
  16. I got my order of bison tubes, decals and stencils today. Thanks guys, fast shipping and quality products! DC
  17. Been pretty quiet Ray, any word on those coins? DC
  18. I agree, it is not ONLY for the children. Many times have my kids rummaged through the swag and didn't take anything, then asked if it was still okay to still leave new stuff in the cache...nearly brought a tear to my eye... I agree that it is for everyone. A degraded cache is probably sadder to me than my kids. Most of their fun comes with finding it, as is mine. I still fix them up when they need it, and try to make it better than we found it....for the next adults and children. Am I rambling again??? DC
  19. I agree with reveritt, most of the "treasures" my 4 and 6 year old take with us from the outdoors does not come from caches. But as far as the caches go, we have made it a point to clean out the trash and refill with good swag. It is not expensive. Many times it does not cost anything. Sometimes my children put trade items in their packs that they already own. My 4 y/o son trades hot wheels through caches like crazy! It doesn't have anything to do with the value of the hot wheel, it's the trade. Like everything else, geocachers you would think, would try to leave the the place a little better than they found it. DC
  20. Agree with all, do it! Like its been already been said, just make it a 5 star difficulty. DC
