  1. This is a pretty old topic so I'm not sure it's still of interest to the OP, but with the recent posts...I'll chime in. Can't help with NJ or NEPA bike caches; however, I know that ekitt10 visits my local area from time to time. So...if you want to hit a few bike trail caches when visiting your brother, check out my 4 Mile, W&OD, Custis, Mt. Vernon, CCT Bike Cache public bookmark. There are currently 83 active caches on those trails. Bill
  2. Thanks for sharing that StarBrand...I'm quite sure you got a warm fuzzy out of reading that log, and you are so right - that's why we hide caches. Bill
  3. Post #3 offers good advice, you might also take a look at a thread here in the Tech Forum concerning "Gecko's losing the date"...it's here: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=239205 If the reset, new batteries, etc., don't do the trick...try asking your question on that thread. Bill
  4. The banner was a nice touch, and a great way to get the word out. Regarding taking it down now...seems it has changed and is current - now reads: Geocaching.com will be going down at approximately 11 AM Pacific Time (GMT -8) today for regular site maintenance. Updates will be posted to the Groundspeak forums or you can follow us on Twitter to receive an immediate update when the site is back online. Bill
  5. Yes, thank you very much for posting the original information quqqie. I submitted my order for a replacement AC adapter this morning. LaCrosse indicated it would be shipping in approximately 1 month...interesting to note that although they wanted an e-mail address...there was no confirmation e-mail from them. Please respond here when any of you receive your adapter. Bill
  6. Moosemama's Oregon 400t Ver 3.60 installed, and my Oregon 550t with Ver 3.10 installed worked flawlessly last time out, distance to destination (cache) counted down to within a few feet on each cache hunt. On the road, AutoRouting using MetroGuide USA Ver 4.02 and City Navigator North American NT respectively...worked as designed. We're both very pleased with the Oregon final version upgrades. Bill
  7. I believe that is an "internal" temperature only...used for diagnostics. The only Garmin GPS receivers (that I know of) that display temperature in the user menus are (some) Edge products, and the RINO 520/530 units. There may be more...but not the Oregons. Bill
  8. That's a pretty good price for an Oregon 300, but keep in mind that you will not be able to take advantage of Garmin's guarantee - they don't honor it on eBay purchases. As far as screen "viewability" goes - some hate it and think it's too dim - I find that just moving my hand to adjust the viewing angle gives me excellent readability, and my eyes are currently on their 64th circumnavigation of the Sun . Bill
  9. Was, is, and no doubt will be...the best $30.00 investment I've ever made Bill
  10. Pretty sure the advice to "unlock" the maps in MapSource is correct; however, there is an "unlock" file that appears in the GARMIN folder (GMAPSUPP.UNL) for the microSD card version of CNav North America NT (and Garmin put it there). Not sure if that appears on the DVD version...I don't have that, because I want to use the microSD card on different GPS receivers. Have no idea why the GMPASUPP.UNL appears in the GARMIN folder for the microSD card...and you don't have to "unlock" the microSD card version. I originally thought I had to unlock the microSD card version, but found out that's not required. Is/was a bit confusing. Unlock your DVD version via MapSource and you should be able to install it to your GPS receiver (only one receiver though). Bill
  11. Yup...your "third method" works like a charm. Bill
  12. If you are using a GPS receiver that records "field notes" (Oregon, Colorado, Dakota, PN-XX) you can upload your field notes and log the caches...the field notes stay on the GPS receiver. Have non-PM folks in your family log on, upload the field notes again, and have them log as normal. The site doesn't seem to restrict logging on MOC's by non-PM's when accessing the cache log via field notes. Bill
  13. I believe this way also works, and is a bit faster -- goto the cache page for the cache you're "ignoring", upper right, click on Ignore - a window will open stating "Restore" or "Continue to Ignore". Click restore and your ignore listing is removed. Bill
  14. Whew....only you can answer that question. If you're going to use it primarily (or exclusively) for off road hikes...then I'd suggest the Topo. If you want to use it for Auto-Routing, hunting addresses, and POI's...then the CN might be best -- OR, if money isn't too tight, buy the CN in DVD form, and Topo in CD form...load them on your PC, and then you can have the best of both worlds by loading the applicable map segments of each type for the coverage area you want. Bill
  15. Add me to the list......... "Service Unavailable HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable." Bill
  16. Hmmmm, good catch! Confirmed and repeatable on my 400t. Bill
  17. I uploaded Beta 3.42 today...and so far - the screen jumping, jittering, etc., has stopped. I put the new software through its paces for about 4 hours today, and so far (always qualifying those betas) everything is working perfectly. Bill
  18. I've heard from several people who saw the original issue that it did fix the problem. Thank you...I think I'll give the new Beta a try on my 400t, and I'll report back. Bill
  19. You don't have to do a "hard reset" as that is likely to change more of your 120's settings than you bargained for. Go to your Trip Computer page, toggle to Menu, select Reset, select All, confirm...and all trip data, waypoints, tracks will be cleared. Bill
  20. Does anyone know, or can confirm, that this latest beta release stopped the "twitch", "wiggle", "jumping" of the map page I reported in the previous beta ver 3.41/2.71 thread? Post #50 here: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...11&t=237463 ....or in this separate, but related thread: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=237902 Bill
  21. Check to make sure you don't have your "Routing" set up to "Lock on Road". Bill
  22. From the Oregon Wiki: "You may find that by default the Oregon will enter mass storage mode unless you have the Setup>System>Interface setting configured to Garmin Spanner. See the next question for more details." You'll then get a screen when you use the USB cable...allowing you to select Mass Storage or not (just power). Bill
  23. Yup, same "quivering", "wiggling", "jumping" behavior on my 400t with the beta 3.41. Drove me nuts!! Although I like the new dashboards, and dual elevation profile add-ons, I went back to the stable final Version 3.40 until Garmin gets it sorted out. The behavior should be reported to Garmin....anyone have the "Beta e-mail address"? Bill
  24. I loaded Ver 3.41 beta on my Oregon 400t yesterday, and ran it through it's paces today. I'm pretty pleased with both the performance, and the new dashboards. I did notice one thing though...when auto-routing to a cache location, or waypoint, and my vehicle is stationary (such as at a traffic light) the map page "quivers", "wiggles", moves back and forth every so slightly. This behavior was noted with the new compass dashboard selected on the map page. Turning the compass dashboard off (reverting to just Data Field option) and the map displays without quivering. Recalculating to off-road also stops the map from quivering. Wondering if anyone else has noticed this behavior. Bill
