  1. I stumbled across the site while looking up Florida treasure hunting and the underwater metal detectors, don't ask, it involved a lost piece of jewelry while kayaking. My first thought that night was this is "BS". There can't be a secret society out there hiding stuff only a few blocks from my house that I don't know about and certainly not hundreds of thousands of them all around the world. A buddy came over later that night and I told him about it and we were checking out the site. Found one located at the end of a boardwalk very near my house that I new only had a few places you could hide something as described on the page. We struck out bound and determined to prove this to be just another urban legend type website. Imagine our dissapointment when we actually found the darn thing!!! Came right home with him, we both created accounts, logged our find and went out and found 2 more that night. He was off from work the next day and attempted to find one which was in a large park. After 45 minutes of searching, he got frustrated, headed for Wally World, picked up his first Etrex, found the cache and the rest is history as most addicts say!!! If I had stumbled upon the website and it had required to create a free, and quick to setup, account to search, I still would have. But then again, I've been bitten by things in the woods just for sticking my hand in a hole to see what's in there!!!
  2. I punched Google in the stomach and it spit out these three first: Number 1 Number 2 Number 3 Hope they help!
  3. I couldn't find it so decrypted the clue to get: Somewhere on Earth Gee, I guess that's why this one isn't a 5/5 with a reference that I needed a spaceship to find it! I eventually found it though.
  4. I just found my first multi done this way and it left me asking if this was OK to do. I assumed it was as all 3 stages got approved as seperate caches. I felt like I earned all 3 smileys as each stage was a different container, hidden in very different ways that took me about 2 hours to complete and a total hiking distance of about 3 miles. Thanks for the confirmation Isonzo.
  5. I just hope you all know that you are being monitored on this website. Not by Jeremy and the rest of the Groundspeak crew, but by those above us circling the earth secretly. You've now found the secret, just as I did a few months back, when I posted this on the Florida Geocaching Association website: "I'm not sure what planet he's from, but late last night I was 1 digit away from cracking this thing. That's the last I remember. When I woke up this morning, I was miles from home, in the woods, no clothing on, a bump on the back of my head and strange little marks all over me. I found a farm and the farmer gave me a ride home. When I got home, I discovered a crop circle in the front yard!!! Somebody should call the Air Force!" Everybody thought I was kidding, but...I still can't get grass to grow in those spots in the front yard and I'm not allowed to use the microwave anymore now that we're on our 4th in the last 6 months. My wife says it's something about the things keep blowing through the kitchen wall, but I think she's actually becoming suspicious. I'm not saying the aliens exist, if you're reading this from outer space, I'M REALLY NOT SAYING THAT!!!, but I am warning you to watch what you say here. ANYBODY KNOW WHAT THE EBAY LINK IS FOR ALUMINUM FOIL HATS???
  6. I'd have to say I fall, on average, in the 3 category, but just got back from the great state of Arkansas and found a place called Burns Park. None of the caches themselves required too large of a hike, but I decided to park the car at the first parking lot and explore the 1600+ square acre park on foot. By the end of the day, the old GPSr advised I had hit the 6 category. Didn't even realize it until I checked the GPSr and then woke up the next day and almost fell down when trying to get out of the bed due to my then useless legs. As for the previous poster mentioning getting out of the flatlands of FL, you hit the nail on the head with that one! Being from FL, those Arkansas hills liked to have killed me!!!
  7. That's my favorite part of caching. Taking my 4 year old out with me. She calls it treasure hunting and has a blast. Also, although she probably would balk if I were to tell her she was learning, I'm also using it as a great time to teach her about the outdoors. Welcome to the group and HAPPY CACHING!!!
  8. yea that is how i plan to do it. I am choosing a spot and i am gonna have people follow a story i set out for them. I will lead people to waypoits as you said, now i just need a good location to put it in Connecticut. anywhere in Conn. would be beautifull!! Ahh man, now you ruined it. Connecticut, are you serious??? I can't believe you want to ruin such a good idea by hiding it in CT. I can't stand caches in CT...as you can tell by the fact that my favorite cache to date, listed on my profile is this one. What beautiful and stunning views and scenery can be found in the great state of CT. I loved my time there and hope to return next year. Hopefully, you'll have your cache in action then and I can find some time to stop by! hey i live in CT okay! i am not and i repeat not going to another state to place this cache. sorry. heh...cache master. Hey Archan...sorry if you missed the sarcasm and/or didn't check the links I included. My favorite cache to date is located in CT and I simply LOVED my time caching there. I think your idea, and home state of CT, are AWESOME!!!!!!!
  9. Now this is just the kind of positive PR that our activity needs. Great news and thanks for sharing!!!
  10. I know I've already posted to this thread once, but came across another today. While searching for an as advertised "very urban", so urban in fact I didn't feel comfortable in the neighborhood and decided I'd have to log a DNF, cache, I came across an out of business place called...are you ready...wait...the GOD ALMIGHTY RESTAURANT!!! Gee, I wonder why they went out of business??? For the first time since I started caching on business trips, I don't have the camera with me, but this place is less than .25 from the cache in Nashville, TN near Meharry Medical College!!!

  12. I'll second that Riffster, GREAT job! I'll be keeping your post in mind when I get up the nerve to attempt the approach to our local land manager who's banned caching in our only local state park. Thanks for the lesson in professional PR for our hobby.
  13. After the good map comes up, if you make any changes to the page, it'll revert back to the basic map with the blue star for a day or so also. However, it eventually comes back with the good map. Congrats on the first hide!
  14. no angst...just immediate and final retribution!!! OK, we know where our TB went, let's plan an event in their front yard until they come out with the goods!!!
  15. Then whatever you do, DO NOT look at THIS CACHE. AAAAHHHHHRRRRGGGGG!!!!! I looked and now I'm BLIND!!! Where's my white cane? I warned you not to look!
  16. If it helps, here's the guideline/rule for placing caches in the St. Andrews State Park facility located in Panama City Beach, FL: NO CACHES ALLOWED...PERIOD!!! NOT ANY TIME, NOT ANYWHERE. ANY CACHE PLACED WILL BE REMOVED/DESTROYED IMMEDIATELY!!! So try to remember, it could be worse. I think the land manager is just trying to protect the natural resources that make Oregon a beautiful place to live. Although rules can be resticting, most of them in this situation are a good thing. I know we've all gone looking for a cache only to find we didn't need the GPS with us. We can just follow the trash trail and/or the beaten down foliage directly to the cache. I'm sure you can work with the folks there to come up with a comprimise that allows for caching in the area but at the same time protects the pristine area that made you want to bring fellow cachers there in the first place. Good luck and happy caching.
  17. I LOVE the idea. I travel quite a bit with my job and not being able to find the trailhead/parking area has cost me more than few finds. I'm not paperless yet so it's usually just the print out and the old GPSr while I'm in a strange town/state. I've had more than my fair share that I just knew were GREAT caches, but couldn't find the right area to park to go get and then I get home, visit MapQuest or Google Maps and smack my head in frustration. The idea gets my vote and A HUGE THANKS to all the cache hiders who actually mention "best parking/trail head can be found at...."
  18. I like it. I'm always game for a new twist to this and if the cache can't offer a great view/scenic area, at least this way, it offered something "different'. Go for it!!! I too can remember spending way to many hours as a pre-teen with D&D, so I'm just curious, are you going to be available for each hunt to be the DM?
  19. Then whatever you do, DO NOT look at THIS CACHE.
  20. As if I needed just one more thing geocaching related to add to my Xmas list. Santa's gonna come down the chimney and kick my you know what thanks to people like you! Thanks for sharing the link, I'm ordering now!!! Looking at my avatar, can you guess what my item will be???
  21. Gonna be in that area end of next week. I'm going to resist the temptation of looking at the clue prior to arrival. I want to be just as stumped as everybody else is. Add me to the "watchers" list though!!!
  22. I've searched the forums to the best of my ability and haven't come across this topic. When you find a cache, have signed the log, inspected the swag, traded and/or not traded, then what do you usually do? I've seen posts that say grabbed something, tossed something in, replaced cache. I've also seen posts that say found cache wet/dismantled, cleaned out/rebuilt cache, etc. but my point is, what do you do with the "GEOCACHE SITE - PLEASE READ" stash note? I often times find it, along with the log book, in the very bottom of the cache, or, sometimes crumpled up in an unrecognizeable ball to one side. Whenever I find a cache, I try to find the stash note. After doing my usual with the cache, I make sure the stash note is smoothed out, and placed on the clear side of the Ziploc bag along with the log book. I then replace everything in the cache and place the Ziploc with stash note on top of everything with the stash note placed facing up so that it's the first thing you see when openning the cache. If I were a muggle and found a cache not re-set this way, I can imagine my feelings once I returned home with my new box full of booty only to later discover this balled up piece of paper at the bottom of the box explaining that I'd just messed up somebody's game. Am I being anal about cache replacement or do some of you do the same thing?
  23. Hey Ambrosia, I know this may be OT, but had to ask. I recently began hiding my own caches and tried to find the camo duct tape. The only camo tape the Wally Worlds sell in NW FL is the cloth type tape meant for wrapping guns and bows I guess for turkey hunting. In your experience with this tape, how does it hold up to the elements. I've got it wrapped around a couple 2+ quart tupperware type caches and I'm wondering if it holds up to the moisture???
  24. While I didn't find it, it was supposedly found at one of my caches: Frank Nelson Park Cache. Just look up porcupines and see if you can see any particular species that lives in Florida. Either the cop was messing with this guy, or he was just as lost as the cacher as far as native species go!
