  1. Hello, About the only caches in cemetaries I've seen have been virtual caches. There's a couple of VCs in a cemetary in my hometown Lincoln NE. Both were related to famous Nebraska people that made history in their own ways. They were High Voltage by Beemerdad (GCC963) and A Song in His Heart by NevaLP (GCB88C). Both caches were interesting finds and the historical aspects were informative. Common sense tells me if you put in a micro or a virtual cache in a public cemetary, that's ok. But any cache bigger than a micro would be tatamount to digging up a gravesite. Be sure to check with the people in charge of the cemetaries what their policy is regarding placing caches. And of course, if you happen to be in the area where a gravesite service is taking place, please keep a respectful distance from them. Or if you were walking or driving along a lane in the cemetary and a funeral procession comes along, step aside / pull over and show some respect. People will remember you for doing that. I'm sure the majority of the geo-cachers will be respectful. It's the few oddballs and thrill seekers that are spoiling our good image to the general public. Thanks.
  2. I have a different situation with my TB, Husker_Black_Bob. I started the TB's travel by putting it in a cache (Memorial Stadium) in Lincoln NE last October. One week later it was reported missing by a cacher. After a couple of months, I decided it was missing for good and put it in the TB Graveyard. Just last week, a fellow cacher in Nebraska "grabbed" the TB from a cache in Washington, D.C. My question is: The TB did not get any mileage from Lincoln NE to Washington DC due to the fact it was not picked up/left off properly. I wanted to get the mileage put in the TB's records so that it will show that it went from Lincoln NE to Washinton DC. Can I just "grab" the Black Bear TB back, log it in/out of a local cache, then log it in/out of a cache located in Washington D.C. Then let the other Nebraska cacher "grab" it back?? What do you think?? Thanks. Larry Husker55
  3. I have looked at the original design and found it too "cluttered" with text. I do like the newer version with the BOLD text and rewording. I'm still partial to having a large picture like the Geocache logo, a minimum of text on one side and a full explaination of the travel bug purpose on the other side. Perhaps we can use the other tag, former COPY tag, to be used as a "Instruction to Cacher" tag. Any chance the logo can be done in color?? thanks. LJK.
  4. Ladies and Gentlemen, we have gathered together on this rainy, chilly morning on Nov. 1, 2004 to mourn the passing of Husker_Black_Bob travel bug. He was born on Sept 19, 2004 with pride and great anticipation of having a great travel bug journey. He was a Husker bean bag bear, black in color with a red N logo. He was released on Sept 27, 2004 at a cache location right next to where a lot of Husker tradition and history is made - Memorial Stadium in Lincoln NE. He was reported missing by a cacher on Oct, 1, 2004. I sent out MIA flyers at cache location and on his travel bug page. But he was never found. He was survived by his sister, Husker_White_Jenny (another Husker bean bag bear); four cousins, Kosch01, Kosch02, Kosch03, Kosch04 (all geocoins) and his grandfather, BHS_Class_Of_1972 (a broken down glasses from the 70's). May the spirits of Husker_Black_Bob find his peace and eternal rest here. This we pray in our Lord's name. Amen. A wake reception will be held at ljkosch55@yahoo.com. Sympathy and encouragement can be sent there. Thank You for coming.
  5. Last Sunday, I decided to drop off my first travel bug, Husker_Herbie near Lincoln, NE at a cache site that was listed as a "TB Airport". I waited in anticipation of Herbie taking off on his flight to the West Coast, seeing the sights, etc. Now it's three days later and Husker_Herbie is still waiting for his connecting flight to the West Coast. I would like very much to see my Herbie get going!! I understand how a cache can go for days at a time without a visitor. And we had heavy rains in the area recently, which probably kept most people at home from doing their geocaching thing. And the cache in question is in a wooded area with tall grasses so it may be a couple of more days before some cachers would venture out into that area. What can I do as a travel bug owner?? Send a e-mail to the cache owner and telling them nicely to please move the T-bug along. Or do I have the option of returning to the cache and move the T-bug to another cache?? Thanks.
  6. There's no need for me to find one now. I bought a number of travel bugs for myself. Just yesterday I released Husker_Herbie in the Lincoln NE area for his trip to the West Coast. And I have two more travel bugs in the making. Why do I need a Jeep TB for? So I can go Beep-Beep?? I'm having fun with my own travel bugs, Thank you. P.S. Those people that have trouble logging the travel bugs should research them on Groundspeak and find out what their names are so they can make the proper logs. Or you can always send a note to the cache afterwards.
  7. Hello, I've been watching a local cache in Lincoln NE in the last two weeks. I've been interested in picking up one of those Jeep TBs and this particular cache had a number of them passing thru. The problem is, that geocachers that finds this particular cache are NOT reporting that they dropped a Jeep TB. Later, another geocacher finds the cache and reported that he/she PICKED up a Jeep TB. There were nothing in the Geocache logs about Jeep TBs being left off, yet I'm seeing log entries where people are picking them up from the cache almost out of thin air. This particular cache had two JEEP TBs picked up recently, yet there is no log entries pertaining to JEEP TBs being left off. I suspect there is a group of people that have a number of these JEEP TBs. They work together in dropping them off at a particular cache and not report their destinations. Then their partners (in crime, maybe) will come by later, pick up the JEEP TB and report them as being picked up. If a GeoCaching Moderator would like to know the name and location of this particular cache, I would be happy to let them know. Thanks.
  8. I got my Magellan Sportrac Color GPS last month for a vacation trip. And now I'm using it to find GPS caches! Like virgo91967 said, I went looking for a virtual cache in a cemetary (spooky ) this week. First time I went there, I committed the "chasing the arrow" or "drunken bee dance" mistake. I moved around until my arrow was right on top of my waypoint. What I didn't realize was the arrow is placed a bit to the right of my actual position on the map. I remember when I was driving down a highway with my GPS. I looked down and I saw the arrow tracing a breadcrumb route a bit to the right of the highway in a parallel fashion. Once I was driving by a lake and my GPS said I was in ten feet of water. After checking with the virtual cache owner, who told me I had picked the wrong marker, I went back the second time. This time when I got my arrow centered over the waypoint, I changed the screen on my GPS to the LAT LON coordinate screen. I had a paper copy of the cache coords with me. Still did the DBD, but I was moving purposely from grave marker to grave marker. When I finally got my LAT LON coords to match with the paper copy, I stood still for a few minutes. There were a few tall pine trees in the area (one was right next to the VC marker that I found) and that was causing interference with my GPS readings. I let my GPS do its WAAS averaging thing. When it finally settled down on the LAT LON coords, it matched the paper copy coords. And I found the right grave marker!! I used that lesson on that same day to find a regular cache in a city park. I followed the arrow to my waypoint. Then I switched over to the LAT LON screen and matched up the numbers. When I did that, then it was time to look around and find the cache's hiding place. I was rewarded with a keychain ring from Nine West. Hope this help another Newbie get rid of the "drunken bee dance" syndrome. Thanks. LJK
  9. I had the same type of problem with PayPal when I was making a payment for something I bought on E-Bay. As long as you can see in your PayPal logs that a payment went to the seller, there should be no problem. The error page probably occurred after the transaction was completed. You may want to send an e-mail to the seller and tell them there was an error in the PayPal payment process. And ask them to confirm that they got your shipping address. A note from the seller that they shipped your items would be nice too. Good luck with your new bug!! LJK
  10. Hello, I did a little research for a possible cache spot at a nearby city park/lake today in Lincoln NE. I was walking around and checking out the possible spots when I saw some trash blowing around. I found myself wishing I was carrying one of those CITO bags around. Lo and behold, I saw a yellow plastic bag caught on a tree trunk right close by. So I walked over, picked it up and started bagging the trash as I went along. The reason why I started this topic is that I made an unusual find: I found a spool cast spinning reel! It was lying about six feet from the shore and underneath a tree. I looked around to see if there was a fishing rod lying nearby. I even looked up in the tree to see if someone had "cast" their rod into the tree out of frustration. The reel had a full spool of line wound on and it even had a fish hook set on its bail. Since there was nobody around to give this to and I have no need for an extra reel, I bagged it and dropped a decent sized bag of trash in the trash barrel when I got back to my car. It was a great day to be outside although it was quite windy and I found out a few nice things about Oak Lake Park in Lincoln NE. I even found a couple of possible cache hiding places. Did anybody make any unusual trash finds, other than the spent needles mentioned in other postings??
