  1. I just received my new TB's in the mail and was wondering if there is a time limit between activation and placement as I don't know right now when I will be able to get out and drop them off.

I guess what i'm asking is, can I activate them all right now and send them on their way when it's convenient? Or should I wait until i'm ready to drop them off?

    Thanks for the help, :P

  2. I've created a neat little avatar for myself using the only program I seem to have that will do such: PageMaker. But I can't figure out how to save it as a .jpg (or .tif or .bmp for that matter). PageMaker allows me to save it as a PDF, PDM or HTML file. Any suggestions? What programs do y'all use to create/edit your images for avatars?

Unfortunatly PageMaker® is a page layout program only. In order to save your file as a .jpg you will need a photo editing program such as PhotoShop® or, much less expensive, Microsoft Paint®. However, if you would like to save your file as a .pdf and send it to me, I can convert it for you.

  3. Thanks so much for all of your hard work!  I really liked the avatar that you designed; I think it looks great.  But, I was wondering if you could  tweek on  it just a little bit.  My husband really liked it too......but I think he'd probably prefer it to be a little more  "rug-ged".    Heck, he'd probably like to see camo on it or something.  LOL    :P

Ok, how about this one? It has Texas, an Armadillo in a Geo hat, the double "G" using the generic GeoCaching logo, and it even has camo!! :P

So, since I don't have any concrete ideas for an avatar/logo I would be greatful for a really slick design that I could use both as avatar and for personal signature items.    I'd love it to have some type of a Texas theme to go with the caching theme.    Maybe the State of Texas ?  Maybe a Double G for GeoGoes?    I originally thought about an armadillo......but then i thought that they have probably already been used a lot!?  I guess something totally original would probably be the best.

Looks like you've been waiting long enough! How's this for starters. I used the TX state bird (mockingbird), the TX state flower (blue bonnet), and the colors of the TX state flag for the outline of the state. I used the generic GeoCaching logo for the double "G". Let me know if you like it and I can send you he full size for other uses.

    Hi CapnJack!

(I still think it's a beautiful avatar though!..... you did a great job and it's very creative!) :)

    Thank you !!!!!!

    Jenny/TheGeoGoes

Yep, little too flowery. I'll work on it!

  5. I'd love to see a variation of our avatar.  Right now it's just a pic of the state flag.  Would like the GC colors included, but we like the red, too (Razorbacks fan).  Any ideas?

I'm just putting this up as a suggestion, feel free to hate it! :)

edit: alright, now that I see it online I hate it too. I'll fix it.

edit²: I like this one, how 'bout you?

  6. Milo has only two posts in this forum. Both in this topic, both rude, and both insulting. IMHO, this warants attack!

No... one attack doesn't justify return fire. For example, your contributions to this topic have noted that the original poster isn't a premium member, and only has two posts in the Groundspeak forums. Quoting from the forum guidelines, "whether a community member has one post or 5,000 posts, they deserve the same respect."

If you disagree with a person's opinion, feel free to dissect that opinion into bits and pieces, and offer support for a contrary opinion. But please refrain from attacks on the person, rather than the opinion.

Point well taken ... Apology offered.

  7. And those who find them elitist or disclusionist (or whatever you choose to call it). As for "those who choose not to pony up the dough for membership", alot of people don't see any point in spending $30 a year for PQs, the OT forum, MOCs, a special logo, and "warm fuzzies".

    Thorin

Just my two cents, but the extras that you mention are not the point of the $30 a year, they are bonuses for the people who help support geocaching.com and Groundspeak. Servers, programs, and programing, not to mention the time spent putting them all together, are not free. Yet, you are still allowed to use these services for free. I have owned two web sites in the past that both went "belly up" because I couldn't muster the support needed to help me afford them. If I were TPTB of these web sites and services I would require membership. How would you like to work at your job for free?

Edit: I would also like to add that there is no advertising on these sites other than "on topic" ads, and no annoying pop-ups, flashing "You've Just Won" banners ... etc. Which I greatly appreciate because my (P) doesn't need to be larger and I'm not overweight!

  8. Ok, if we can nominate ourselves, I nominate me! I've only been a "member" for one month and already I have created three and a half avatars for other members, bought a compass/flashlight and travel bugs from the geocaching.com store, downloaded and paid for GSAK as well as given others advice on several different topics that I know at least something about, and spewed my humble opinions all ove the forum pages.

    So I say Go Me !!!!! :)

  9. I've had cache pages that I submitted and immediately disabled by me so it wouldn't get approved while I was editing the html, and had the approver email me as to whether or not I wanted it approved and why was it disabled! ANd this was a guy subbing for another approver, so he had a double load!! Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah!

Am i mistaken, or are you missing a "Nah". :D

  10. PS. What is a wooden pear?

    <~GoLeft Curtis

Ha! Well since you asked, I'm using a friends hosting plan to upload my avatars. He is French-Canadian and his French last name translates to english as "Pear Picker." I set up the web site for him a while ago to sell his very creative woodwork items and we haven't gotten together to complete it, but he's only using it to host eBay items right now anyway.

P.S. I'm glad this post finally went to a new page, I was wearing out my scrolling finger!
