  1. You're quite correct that I did leave my note in anger and for that I apologize. (I've since toned it down to be more of a warning to others who, like me, don't see anything obvious in the description about having to risk their neck getting to the cache.) Unfortunately the terrain rating doesn't account for variables, such as weather, but even in perfect conditions this one is no '3'. As an aside, I don't see why my log was deleted when there is another that reads "Made the find but not the sign. Too many people around on a warm winter Saturday. I took a picture instead. Will send to the CO if requested. Thanks!" that you left intact. My frustration is that you are being inconsistent in how you apply the rules. Why is it OK for someone not to sign to avoid muggles but not OK to avoid a broken neck? Thank You for revising your note on the cache. As for other peoples logs, there was also a man who was 60 years old who contacted me about this cache. He had said he was unable to get to it but he tried many things to get it down (and detailed them to me) but could not. He then asked me if he could log it as a find considering all the effort he put into the cache, but he was physically unable. He said he would be happy logging it as a DNF, but was hoping I would allow him to log it as a find under a "Grandfather Clause" (in this case meaning he was old and a grandfather). I emailed him back happily and told him to log it as a find. Your log of a find, which I deleted, was full of anger. You were rude and insistant that I was somehow the villian here, and therefore you diserved to have this logged as a find. You basically said I was forcing people to do things that I should not be forcing them to do, and therefore validated you doing nothing to get this cache. I told you in the email I sent you (which you posted without my permission) that I have never deleted someones post before. That is because people are usually generally nice to me. Had you have started out emailing me your situation and being nice, I probably would have done the same for you. Exceptions can be made. This is a game, and is meant to be fun. I am not trying to ruin anyones fun. As for this being a terrain 3, I still believe thats an appropriate terrain level. Once you get on the initial branch, its a pretty easy climb from there. No special equipment needed, no super long hikes or going in water or scaling the side of a cliff, just a basic tree climb. Terrain 3 can mean different things to different people and have different attributes apply to different caches. If you look at the logs, there are 8 and 10 year olds getting this cache unassisted. I hope we can all just move on from this situation. Have a great day everyone and happy caching!
  2. Hello everyone, I am the CO for the cache in question. It's good to see that overall most people agree with my actions. I sure feel a terrain of 3 was appropriate for this cache. My overall thought was that it was not level ground, but it didn't require special equpiment like repelling gear, it was somewhere in the middle. I am glad to see most of you agree. The OP left a note on my cache that was written out of anger, threatening to continuously re-post it should I delete it. With a name like Monkey Cache and the description stating you need to be agile to get this, I would guess those would be clues to what was coming. This tree is not far from parking (100 feet or so), so by all means if you cant do it, move along. I guess you can't make everyone happy. EDIT* I didn't know there is a tree climbing attribute now. I will gladly add that. I did have the "Difficult Climbing" Attribute on the cache. This cache was started a year and a half ago.
  3. I bought this exact one on Tuesday and am LOVING it! (actually the 205W) hehe. Thanks everyone!
  4. The reason I made this post was because I need a CAR GPS. I use my iPhone for all my close caching and it does a great gob IMHO. The biggest problem is its battery life and then getting directions from cache to cache. That drains a ton of the battery just for navigation. If i had a car dedicate dgps to work with it, and I could plug in coordinates on the car gps, that would be ideal for me
  5. You can just download that cache's GPX from the page itself, then examine the GPX in a text editor to see if it fixed the problem. If preserving the order of finds in a day is important to you, you will have to delete all finds found on the same day after that cache, and re-log them in the correct order. Edit : OK, it's the last cache for the day, so you're fine Here's the date for your log in the GPX, I just took a look at it: <Groundspeak:log id="109552022"> <Groundspeak:date>2010-05-23T00:17:35Z</Groundspeak:date> So the problem is as I described above. A "normal" log (this one by your friend) looks something like this: <Groundspeak:log id="109569924"> <Groundspeak:date>2010-05-22T19:00:00Z</Groundspeak:date> Amazingly it put it smack in the middle of my caches for the day, not at the end.... with the time of 19:00
  6. But many of us are stats junkies In addition, there's some part of me that suffers from mild OCD and cringes when data is wrong. Well I deleted my log and re-logged it and looking at the text editor, that fixed it. Very strange, but I guess it happens Thanks for the advice. it show show properly next week And, yeah I have a little OCD for this kinda stuff, and it was my biggest caching day
  7. I logged via the iPhone application. When I look at the cahe and its log, it shows the correct date, along with every other cache i found and logged the same way. There is nothing for me to correct... Once in a while, the site seems to hiccup. Instead of hard-coding the time of the find (seen only in the GPX) as 19:00Z (during DST) or 20:00Z, which converts to 12 noon Pacific time on the same day, it uses some other time value. For example, if the time in the GPX file says 2009-05-02T03:00:00Z, this will display on the site as May 1st 2009, not May 2, as you would expect, because of the time conversion. I don't know of any way around that except to delete and re-log. Another alternative, if you're using GSAK, is to edit the GPX, load it into GSAK again, then lock the record. I think Ill delete the log and re-log it and see if that works. Unfortunately Ill have to wait another week to do another "my finds" query.
  8. Hello, When I choose advanced search and I choose to search by zip code, it seems that I have to click ok twice for it to register. After the first clock it just brings me back to the identical page, then second time it goes to the search. Secondly, if i choose "exclude my finds" it never does, it just puts a check mark next to them and thats it. Thanks, Steve
  9. I logged via the iPhone application. When I look at the cahe and its log, it shows the correct date, along with every other cache i found and logged the same way. There is nothing for me to correct...
  10. Hey Guys, I was with a friend caching this weekend and we took his car to go this time. He had a Garmin Nuvi car GPS. The screen was nice, the maps looked great, but the most important feature it had on it was the ability to put in coordinates in XX YY.ZZZ format, so that when people put parking coordinates or even just cache coordinates, he could plug those in and we were off. I have an ancient Garmin StreetPilot that barely works to begin with, but does not have the ability to put in coordinates. My question is, does anyone know any good, but relatively inexpensive car GPS units they can reccomend that have this feature? Thanks so much! Stevesquirrel

  12. Hello, I ran my weekly "My Finds" PQ this morning to update my stats from this weekend. I found 15 caches on Saturday 5/22. I double checked my profile and the logs and they all show correctly for 5/22. The PQ is showing 14 finds for 5/22 and the last one is showing as 5/23. Since this was my biggest day of caching, i would like it to reflect the appropriate number. I entered the log way before midnight (around 8 PM ) so I have no idea why its doing this. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Stevesquirrel
  13. WOW! Perfect, just what i was looking for.. French Creek state park (right above the one you mentioned is full of multis and puzzles as well!!! Thansk so much!
  14. Those trails look like they could be a lot of fun!! Thanks! Any other suggestions?
  15. The Dakota is $250 AFTER rebate, $300 before. ahh.. well if gpscity has the oregon 450 for 340 - 50 rebate so ttoal is 290, for 40 bucks difference i think the oregon is the winner hands down... i really would like to buy from rei, but when its suck a big price difference, i really cant now..
  16. Ooops, sorry it is the 60Csx that is on sale at REI starting Friday. The Dakota 20 is on sale for $249 including topo maps (cd). OldA'sFan Hmmm.. the Dakota 20 gets the 50 dollar rebate as well... that would bring it down to 199... do you think its better for me to get the Dakota 20(with maps) for $200 instead of the Oregon 450 which is going to cost me about $300.... is the oregon worth $100 bucks more?
  17. What do you mean, if I use bing? How does that work? I am from Pennsylvania, USA
  18. Its horrible, unfortunately. Cacheberry is decent, but its a lot of manual work to load caches, and boy does it drain battery.
  19. Hey Guys, I think I have finally decided to get the Oregon 450 I know there is a rebate going on for $50 dollars, but does anyone know the best place to buy from, or reccomend a place NOT to buy from? I wana get the best price I possibly can as money is tight and this is a splurge. Also I hear that REI offers discounts and product replacement, is that true? Any and all advice/suggestions would be great. Also one last thing... I hear people say its better to get the 450 and download the free topo maps from the web and load them up, rather then spend the 100 bucks extra for the 450t. Does anyone know if these free maps are just as good, and are they easy to load? Thanks so much! Stevesquirrel
  20. Hey Guys, I would really like to do a geotrail that is not too grueling. I have hiked in the past, and an just getting into it again with my girlfriend, but we want to ease our way in. We both love geocaching and I figure it would be a great way to encompass the two into one. Does anyone know of any geotrails that would take about 1-3 hours near Philadelphia, PA? I am willing to do some driving to get there as well Thanks for your help! Stevesquirrel
  21. I marked the item as "missing" as advised, thanks It seems to me that the cache was vandalized and all the pieces are gone for good, but I will wait. I dont know at this point how long Ill wait, probably a good few months Thanks for the advice!
  22. Hey Guys, Long story short my TB was in a cache and the cache got vandalized and muggled. The CO replaced and moved the cache slightly. I sent him an email asking if somehow the TB survived the ordeal, but it had not. My question is, what is the proper way to release the TB copy out there? Should I re-discover it on its original page and the just place it in a new cache? What would be the proper ettiquite to do this? Thanks for all your suggestions and advice, Stevesquirrel
  23. That totally worked. Thanks for supporting my n00bness I appreciate it! Stevesquirrel
  24. Hello, My first TB was picked up and moved to a new cache by a fellow cacher. It was logged, and shows in its new location, yet when I click on the "Yours" link next to Trackable Items it shows the correct place it is in but lists as 0 miles traveled. Anyone know why this is happening? Thanks, Stevesquirrel P.S. Heres the link to the TB http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=2470464
